REET Pre Syllabus Level 1 for Classes 1 to 5

TeachingPrimary teacher150 marksUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The REET pre syllabus level 1 is the content list for the primary teacher paper in Rajasthan, split into five blocks of 30 one mark questions: child development and pedagogy (CDP), a first language, a second language, maths and EVS, for 150 marks in 150 minutes. Clearing it earns an eligibility certificate, which you then carry into the state's separate recruitment exam.

Here you get the paper scheme, section wise topics, the new marking rule and a study order. B.Ed. holders who are aiming at Classes 6 to 8 instead should read the REET pre level 2 syllabus.

Where REET pre fits in teacher hiring

Rajasthan hires government school teachers in two steps. The first is the Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers, known to most aspirants as REET pre, which the Ajmer based school board conducts. A pass gives you a certificate of eligibility, nothing more. Actual posts are filled through a later selection test conducted by the state's staff selection board, and that second step for primary posts is covered on our REET mains Level 1 page.

Level 1 leads to primary posts (Classes 1 to 5) and Level 2 for upper primary (Classes 6 to 8). You may sit both if you meet both sets of qualifications. Reports on the latest cycle describe the certificate as valid for life; check that line in your own notice.

The paper is offline, on an OMR sheet, and bilingual. For the two language sections you pick from Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Urdu, Sindhi, Punjabi and Gujarati, and Language II must differ from Language I.

The marking rule that changed

Earlier REET rounds carried no penalty. For the latest round the Board switched to five answer circles per question and a cut of a third of the marks every time an answer is wrong; reports add that a question with no circle filled at all is penalised the same way. Read the OMR instructions on your admit card closely.

Marking rules, pass percentages and the language list can be revised. Treat the BSER notice for your cycle as the final word.

Child development and pedagogy

  • How children grow: concept, principles and dimensions, with the influence of home and school
  • Heredity and environment
  • Learning: meaning, how children learn, and the theories of behaviourism, Gestalt, cognitivism and constructivism with classroom uses
  • Methods such as reflection, imagination, reasoning, experiential learning, concept mapping and problem solving
  • Motivation and its effect on learning
  • Why learners differ; personality; intelligence and its theories, including multiple intelligences
  • Diverse learners: slow learners, gifted and creative children, disadvantaged children, children with disabilities or learning difficulties
  • Adjustment, and how a teacher supports it
  • The classroom process, assessment and evaluation, action research
  • The RTE Act and what it asks of schools and teachers

Language I and Language II

Both language sections test your own command of the language and your ability to teach it to young children. A typical spread for English, as reported for the latest syllabus, is:

  • Unseen prose and poem passages with questions
  • Synonyms, antonyms, spelling, word formation and one word substitution
  • Parts of speech, tenses, determiners and degrees of comparison
  • Framing questions, voice change and reported speech
  • Sounds of English and phonetic symbols
  • Principles and methods of language teaching, building listening, speaking, reading and writing, aids and textbooks
  • Continuous and comprehensive evaluation in language

Hindi as a language section is built on similar lines, with Hindi grammar items like sandhi, samas, upsarg, pratyay, muhavare and vakya shuddhi in place of English grammar.

Mathematics and environmental studies

Mathematics

  • Whole numbers up to one crore, place value and comparison
  • The four operations and Indian currency
  • Fractions: proper and mixed, comparing like fractions
  • Prime and composite numbers, prime factors, LCM and HCF
  • Simple interest, average, profit and loss, and the unitary method
  • Area and perimeter of squares and rectangles
  • Pedagogy: nature of mathematics, its place in the curriculum, maths in daily community life, data handling, evaluation, spotting errors and planning remedial work

Environmental studies

  • Family, joint and nuclear families, social evils such as child marriage, dowry and child labour
  • Clothes and dwellings across seasons, handloom and powerloom
  • Occupations, cottage industries and the main industries of Rajasthan, consumer protection, cooperatives
  • Our culture: national symbols, fairs and festivals of Rajasthan, dress, food, forts, palaces, paintings, folk deities and tourist places
  • Transport and communication, road safety and traffic signs
  • Personal hygiene, balanced diet and common diseases
  • Living beings, water, earth and space, mountaineering
  • EVS pedagogy: concept and scope of the subject and how to teach it

Which sections decide your result

With all five sections equal, the result usually turns on the two you find hardest. Commerce and arts graduates often lose marks in mathematics pedagogy, while science graduates lose them in Language II. The Rajasthan content in EVS (fairs, folk deities, forts, industries) is the part most outside readers miss, and it is pure recall.

Kavita has a D.El.Ed. and four months to go. She fixes CDP and EVS first because they need reading more than practice, then gives Hindi grammar and maths 45 minutes each daily. In the final month she sits a full 150 question paper every Sunday on a printed five circle OMR sheet so the new marking rule feels normal.

Because of negative marking, attempt only what you can narrow to one option. CDP questions on theories and RTE Act provisions reward careful reading rather than speed.

Books for REET level 1

Start from the school textbooks (NCERT and the Rajasthan Board's own) of the primary and upper primary classes for maths, EVS and language, and turn to your teacher training notes for CDP. A book on Rajasthan's art, culture and geography covers the state part of EVS. Tick topics off against the syllabus attached to the BSER notice. Much of this content also appears in the central test, so the CTET paper 1 syllabus is useful for extra practice.
