The REET pre syllabus level 2 fits into one 150 mark paper split four ways: 30 questions on CDP, 30 each on your two languages, and a 60 question block where you take maths plus science or else social studies. It is the eligibility round for future upper primary teachers of Rajasthan's classes 6 to 8, and its only job is to tell you whether you have crossed the pass line.
That changes how you should prepare. In the pre stage you are not competing for a rank; you are trying to land safely above 60 percent while the one third penalty for wrong answers keeps tempting you to guess. This page explains each block, the scoring rules that matter, and a target score plan, so you walk out with a certificate you can use for REET Mains.

What "pre" means in REET
Rajasthan now runs teacher selection in two separate exams. The first, often called REET pre, is the Rajasthan Eligibility Assessment for Teachers held by the school board. Pass it and you hold an eligibility certificate. The second, REET Mains, is the hiring exam that RSSB holds whenever third grade teacher vacancies are advertised.
So when coaching notes or friends talk about the REET pre level 2 syllabus, they mean the board's eligibility paper for upper primary teachers. For the topics of the hiring round, use the REET Mains level 2 syllabus. A longer chapter list for this same paper sits on our REET level 2 syllabus page, and primary teachers should see the REET pre level 1 syllabus.
Blocks, questions and marks in the level 2 paper
| Block | Questions | Marks | Share of paper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Child development and pedagogy (CDP) | 30 | 30 | 20 percent |
| Language I | 30 | 30 | 20 percent |
| Language II | 30 | 30 | 20 percent |
| Subject block (maths and science together, otherwise social studies) | 60 | 60 | 40 percent |
| All blocks | 150 | 150 | 100 percent |
You get 150 minutes for 150 questions, which leaves almost no time to spare once you account for shading the OMR sheet. You cannot take the same language twice. If you teach a subject other than maths, science or social studies, pick the subject block the notification allows for your degree.
Scoring rules you must understand
- Five bubbles per question: four answer choices and a fifth meaning "left by choice".
- Penalty: each error in the latest round cost 0.33 marks. Reports also said a question left with no bubble filled at all is treated harshly, so fill the fifth bubble for every question you skip.
- Pass line: 60 percent, that is 90 marks, in the open category; 55 percent if you belong to Rajasthan's SC, ST, OBC or EWS groups. Further relaxations for groups such as persons with disability and scheduled area candidates have been reported, but take those figures from the latest notification itself.
- Validity: reports on recent rounds say a REET pass no longer expires, following the NCTE decision on lifelong TET certificates.
Inside the REET pre syllabus level 2: four blocks
CDP (30)
Adolescent growth, theories of learning and motivation, intelligence and personality, inclusive education for children with special needs, assessment and action research, and teacher duties under the Right to Education Act. Questions are often short classroom situations asking what a teacher should do.
The two languages (30 questions apiece)
Comprehension of a prose extract and a poem, the grammar of that language, and a block on how to teach it: language skills, teaching aids, evaluation and remedial work. Language I questions go deeper into grammar; Language II stays closer to comprehension.
Maths and science (60)
Maths at class 6 to 8 level, from integers and algebra to mensuration and data handling, followed by science on the living world, matter, force and energy, natural phenomena and the environment. Each half ends with teaching method questions.
Social studies (60)
Indian history and culture, the Constitution and local government, geography of India and Rajasthan, Rajasthan's art and heritage, basic economics, and methods for teaching social science.
Plan for a safe 100, not a perfect 150
Since the goal is a pass, build a margin of about ten marks above the cut line instead of chasing every topic.
| Block | Target |
|---|---|
| CDP | 22 of 30 |
| Language I | 22 of 30 |
| Language II | 16 of 30 |
| Subject block | 40 of 60 |
| Total | 100 |
This is only a planning aid, not an official figure. Adjust it to your strengths: a social studies graduate may aim higher in the subject block and lower in Language II.
Eligibility to sit Level 2
Graduates with a B.Ed qualify, as do graduates who hold a D.El.Ed, and so do those on four year integrated routes like B.El.Ed, B.A. B.Ed and B.Sc. B.Ed, subject to NCTE minimum percentages. Final year trainees have generally been let in. The eligibility stage has no maximum age; age rules arrive with the Mains advertisement. Degree rules have shifted in earlier rounds; check the latest notification.

Frequently asked questions
Is REET pre level 2 the same as REET level 2?
Yes. Both terms point to the board's eligibility paper for classes 6 to 8. The word pre is used only to tell it apart from REET Mains, the recruitment exam held later by the staff selection board.
What is the pass mark for REET pre level 2?
Last time general candidates had to reach 60 percent (90 of 150), while reserved Rajasthan candidates (SC, ST, OBC, EWS) needed 55 percent. A few other groups get lower thresholds, printed in the notice.
Does my REET pre score affect the Mains merit?
Rank in Mains comes from the Mains paper itself. The pre score mainly decides whether you are eligible to apply, so check the Mains advertisement for any other use of it.
Can I choose both maths and social studies?
No. Level 2 allows just one subject block. If your degree fits either, choose the one linked to the post you plan to apply for in Mains.
What should I do with questions I cannot answer?
Shade the fifth bubble, which tells the examiner you are not attempting the question. A wrong guess loses one third, and an empty row may also be penalised under the latest rules.
Am I too old for REET pre?
No upper age limit has applied to the eligibility test. Age limits are set for the recruitment stage by the Mains advertisement.
