The UP home guard syllabus for the latest enrolment is a single general knowledge paper: a two hour test of 100 objective questions worth one mark each, written on an OMR sheet. The official pattern has no separate maths or Hindi paper, so your score depends on how well you know India, Uttar Pradesh and current affairs.
This guide lists every topic area in the GK paper, explains the 25% qualifying rule and the later physical and document stages, and ends with a short summary of the homeguard syllabus in Hindi for readers who prefer it.

Selection stages in brief
Home Guard enrolment in Uttar Pradesh is now run by the Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, and vacancies are counted separately for each of the 75 districts. The process moves in this order:
- Written examination (general knowledge)
- Document scrutiny together with the Physical Standard Test (height, chest and weight)
- Physical Efficiency Test (a timed run)
- Medical check before final enrolment
The written paper is the only scored stage. Height, chest and the timed run only need to be cleared. Merit is drawn from normalised written marks, plus extra marks for preferential qualifications where the notice allows them, which is why the cut off differs from district to district. Past district lines are explained in our home guard cut off guide.

Which areas deserve most time
With equal marks on each question and a very wide topic spread, no single chapter decides your result. A sensible split is to give about a third of your study time to Uttar Pradesh topics and current affairs, since most aspirants from other boards know these least, and spread the rest across history, polity, geography and science.
A six week plan for the GK paper
- Week 1: Indian history and the national movement from NCERT books.
- Week 2: Constitution, rights, human rights and basic economy.
- Week 3: India and world geography, neighbours, capitals, organisations.
- Week 4: everyday science, cyber crime and internal security.
- Week 5: Uttar Pradesh administration, culture, fairs, resources and schemes.
- Week 6: current affairs revision and three full timed tests on OMR sheets.
For books, NCERT school textbooks and a state GK reference are enough. Planning to try for police jobs as well? the UP police constable syllabus shares much of this GK and adds reasoning and maths.
Eligibility and physical stages to keep in mind
The minimum schooling is the 10th (high school) from a recognised board. The reported age range for the latest enrolment was 18 to 30 years for general candidates, with relaxation for reserved groups under state rules. Height, chest, weight and running standards for men and women are given in the notification, and the PST is held along with document checking.
Plan some running practice alongside your GK study, because failing the PET ends your chance even with a strong written score. The exact standards are printed in the latest notice on the Board's website, and browse other uniformed service options in our police and defence section.

Frequently asked questions
Is there maths or reasoning in the UP home guard exam?
The Board's pattern for the latest enrolment lists only general knowledge, with 100 questions for 100 marks. Some sites still show older or guessed patterns, so trust the official notification.
Below what score is a home guard candidate dropped after the written test?
Candidates scoring below 25% are not eligible for enrolment. Scoring 25 is only a floor; the district cut off for selection has been much higher.
Is the home guard syllabus UP the same in every district?
Yes. Every district sits the same written paper. Only the vacancies and the resulting cut offs differ by district and category.
Which books should I read for the home guard GK paper?
NCERT social science and science books from class 6 to 10 cover most national topics. Add a state GK reference for Uttar Pradesh and keep short notes of each month's events.
Can I apply with 12th or graduation?
Yes. The minimum is a 10th pass, so higher qualifications are fine. Check the latest notice for any preferential qualification marks that may apply.
Where is the official home guard notice?
On the UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board website. Admit cards, answer keys and results are also posted there.
