MP Police Syllabus for Constable

Defence and police10th passState policeUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The MP police syllabus for constable recruitment is a single 100 question computer based test in three parts: general knowledge and reasoning (40 marks), intellectual and mental ability (30 marks), and science with simple arithmetic (30 marks). You get two hours, there is no negative marking, and the paper is available in Hindi and English.

The Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board runs the written exam for MP Police. Candidates shortlisted on their normalised score are then called for running, jumping and throwing events, a measurement check and document verification. This page lays out the MP constable syllabus topic by topic and shows how to split your time across it.

Selection stages in brief

Recruitment moves through four steps. The written CBT comes first and is held over many shifts, so the board normalises scores to even out differences between shifts. Those who score high enough move to the physical efficiency test and the physical standard test, where height and, for men, chest are measured. Documents and a medical check follow.

In the latest recruitment the final merit was reported to combine the normalised written score with physical test marks. That means a strong run or throw can lift your rank, but no amount of running rescues a weak written score, because the CBT decides who gets to the ground at all.

MP police exam pattern

BIntellectual ability and mental aptitude3030
CScience and simple arithmetic3030
Total100100

The test lasts 120 minutes. With 100 questions and nothing lost on an incorrect choice, never leave a question blank; mark your best guess before the timer ends. Radio constable candidates have an extra technical portion in their scheme, so check the latest notification if you are applying for that post.

Part A: general knowledge and reasoning

This is the heaviest part, so it deserves the most hours.

  • Indian history: ancient, medieval, modern, freedom movement
  • Geography: India and the world, rivers, mountains, climate, crops
  • Polity: Constitution, Parliament, state government, rights and duties
  • Economy: basic terms, banking, budget, schemes
  • Madhya Pradesh: history, districts, rivers, tribes, culture, festivals and current developments in the state
  • Static GK: books and authors, inventions, sports, days and awards
  • Basic computer knowledge: hardware, software, internet, shortcuts
  • Current affairs: national, international and state news of the past several months
  • Reasoning mixed in: analogies, series, coding and simple logic

Part B: intellectual ability and mental aptitude

Think of this as the reasoning section. Questions are quick if you have practised the type and slow if you have not.

  • Analogy and classification (odd one out)
  • Series built from numbers, letters or figures
  • Coded words and numbers
  • Family relation puzzles and direction sense
  • Ranking, order and seating arrangement
  • Syllogism and statement based logic
  • Non verbal items: mirror and water images, paper folding, embedded figures
  • Data sufficiency and simple data interpretation

Part C: science and simple arithmetic

Science stays at school level: light, sound, electricity, force and motion in physics; acids, bases, metals, everyday chemicals in chemistry; the human body, nutrition, diseases, plants and animals in biology; plus environment basics.

Arithmetic covers number system, simplification, square roots, average, percentage, interest (both simple and compound), ratio, buying and selling problems, work and time, speed, mensuration of common shapes, and reading bar, pie and line graphs. Some lists also mention logarithms, permutation and probability; expect only the simplest forms if they appear.

Physical test and measurement

The physical efficiency test carries 100 marks, reported as 40 for the 800 metre race, 30 for the long jump and 30 for the shot put. Men throw a 7.26 kg shot and women a 4 kg shot; relaxed standards apply for home guard and ex servicemen candidates. Height limits for men are around 168 cm for most categories and lower for some reserved groups, with a separate limit for women. The board's notification gives the exact timing and distance slabs for each mark band, so read it before you start training.

A study plan for this paper

Because GK and reasoning together make up most of the paper, give them most of your days, and keep maths as a daily habit rather than a weekend block.

Sunil from Sagar has three months and runs every morning. After his run he does 40 minutes of MP GK from his own notes, then 30 reasoning questions. Evenings go to 20 arithmetic sums and one science chapter from the NCERT class 9 or 10 book. Every Sunday he writes a timed 100 question mock and checks which part cost him marks.

Old papers show you how state GK is asked; our page on MP police previous year papers explains how to use them, and our MP constable cut off guide shows how shortlisting worked in past cycles. Aiming higher later? Sub inspector hopefuls can read the MP SI syllabus, which adds depth to these topics, while the police and defence section lines up other state forces.
