RSSB sheets carry an extra circle marked E beside the four answer options, meant for any item you skip. Reports add that if more than ten questions in a hundred carry no bubble whatsoever, not even E, the sheet can be rejected, and a few minutes are given after the paper to complete this step. Follow whatever the sheet itself instructs.

Sources disagree on whether the latest vanpal paper is on OMR or on computer. Your admit card will say which; practise on both formats if you are unsure.

General knowledge and social studies (50 questions)

This is where selection is decided. Almost every topic is seen through Rajasthan.

  • History of Rajasthan: ancient civilisation sites, ruling houses and their famous kings, the revolt of 1857 as it unfolded at Rajasthan cantonments, kisan andolans like Bijolia, Bhil and Meena uprisings, Praja Mandal agitations, and the seven stages through which the state was formed.
  • Art and culture: hill forts, temple styles, schools of painting, folk music, instruments, dance and drama, sects and saints, dress and ornaments, fairs and festivals, dialects and literature.
  • Polity: the Preamble and key features of the Constitution, citizens' rights, duties and the state policy principles, then the state executive, the Vidhan Sabha and the High Court at Jodhpur, bodies such as the state Public Service and Human Rights commissions, the Collector's office and village panchayats.
  • Geography: location and physical divisions, forests and wildlife sanctuaries, climate and soils, rivers and lakes, crops and irrigation, minerals, power, tourism, population, drought and disaster management.
  • Economy: agriculture, animal husbandry, mining and industry, the state budget, unemployment, welfare schemes, self help groups and rural development.

For a forester, the forests and wildlife topic deserves extra care: tiger reserves, national parks, the state tree, animal and bird, and the main forest types of the Aravallis and the desert.

Science, arithmetic and news sections

Everyday science (20)

  • Everyday changes in matter, useful metals and non metals, and well known compounds like baking soda and bleaching powder
  • How light reflects and bends, simple terms used in heredity
  • Organ systems of the human body, food, nutrients and a balanced diet
  • Illnesses common in India, how they spread and how to avoid them
  • Environment and biodiversity, disposal of waste, and IT and computer basics

Mathematics (15)

  • Highest common factor, lowest common multiple, mean values
  • Per cent, gains and losses, both forms of interest, ratios
  • Speed problems and work done together
  • Mensuration of plain shapes and solids
  • Interpreting graphs and charts of different kinds

Current affairs (15)

News from India and from Rajasthan in politics, the economy, society, culture, science, the environment and sport, plus the main schemes run by the state and the Centre. Go back about 8 to 10 months from the exam when you build notes.

Physical standards and the walk

Body measures and walk for the forester post
MeasureMenWomen
Height, general163 cm150 cm
Height, ST and listed tribal areas152 cm145 cm
Chest (men)84 cm, with 5 cm expansionNot applicable
Walk test, 4 hour limit25 km16 km

These rounds are qualifying only; your merit comes from the written paper. Still, a 25 km walk in four hours means keeping up more than 6 km an hour without stopping, which is hard without weeks of training. Start long walks the day you apply, not after the result.

How vanpal differs from vanrakshak

The two posts share the same style of written paper and the same walk distances, so most study material overlaps. The differences lie in the post and eligibility. A vanpal is a forester, in charge of a beat or section, while the vanrakshak works under the vanpal. For a forester you need a 12th pass certificate, and the state now routes this post through its senior secondary level CET.

Many aspirants sit both, since one round of study serves the two. The detailed guard paper is on the vanrakshak syllabus page, and the forest guard syllabus page shows how other states set theirs. To prepare for the screening test first, see the Rajasthan CET syllabus.

Three months to the forester paper

Mahendra from Udaipur has just cleared the CET and has about three months. He gives mornings to the walk, starting with 8 km and adding 2 km each week. His study time goes first to Rajasthan history and geography, two hours a day, with science and maths on alternate evenings. From week nine he solves one past RSSB paper every two days and revises current affairs from his notes.
  • Weeks 1 to 4: Rajasthan's dynasties, folk traditions and governance.
  • Weeks 5 to 8: geography, economy, everyday science and maths practice.
  • Weeks 9 to 12: current affairs, mock papers and error review.

Secondary and senior secondary books of the state board explain the Rajasthan chapters well; for science, the NCERT books of the upper primary and secondary years are plenty. Similar state GK appears in the Rajasthan police syllabus, so those papers also make useful practice.

Frequently asked questions

What does the vanpal question paper contain?

It holds 100 MCQs for 100 marks over 2 hours, and fifty of them are general knowledge or social studies items.

Does vanpal have negative marking?

Yes, every error takes away 0.33 of a mark. Any question you skip should still get the E bubble filled.

What qualification is needed for vanpal?

Applicants must be 12th pass and, as per recent Rajasthan practice, must to hold a valid CET score at the senior secondary level. Knowledge of Devanagari Hindi and Rajasthani culture is also expected.

How old must vanpal applicants be?

Reported limits run from 18 to 40 years for general candidates. Rajasthan rules let women and SC, ST, OBC and similar applicants exceed 40 by a few years; the vanpal notice fixes its own counting date.

Do the walk and physical test marks count in merit?

No. The height, chest and walk tests are qualifying only. Ranking for selection comes only from written marks.

Is the vanpal syllabus the same as the vanrakshak syllabus?

The written pattern and subjects are very similar, so one preparation covers both. Eligibility and the post differ, and the board can change details in each advertisement.
