UP B.Ed JEE: two papers, GK and language, then aptitude and your stream

UP BEd Entrance Exam Syllabus and Paper Pattern

TeachingUttar PradeshGraduatesUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The UP BEd entrance exam syllabus is split across two objective papers written on the same day: Paper 1 tests general knowledge plus either Hindi or English, and Paper 2 tests general aptitude plus a subject ability section matched to your graduation stream (arts, science, commerce or agriculture). Together they carry 400 marks, and your total decides your rank for B.Ed seats across Uttar Pradesh.

The exam is called UP B.Ed JEE, and Uttar Pradesh assigns it to one of its state universities each round, with Bundelkhand University, Jhansi in charge most recently. The bulletin can shift small details when the host changes, so treat the outline below as the shape of the exam and the bulletin as the rulebook.

How UP B.Ed admission moves from exam to seat

  1. Paper 1 (morning shift): general knowledge and one language.
  2. Paper 2 (afternoon shift): general aptitude and subject ability for the stream you choose on the form.
  3. Rank list: made from your combined score in both papers.
  4. Online counselling: you register, choose colleges and get a seat in government, aided or self-financed B.Ed colleges by rank and category.

You must appear in both papers. Skipping the afternoon shift leaves you without a rank, however well the morning went.

UP BEd exam pattern for both papers

UP B.Ed JEE paper structure in recent rounds
Paper and partContentQuestionsMarks
Paper 1, Part AGeneral knowledge50100
Paper 1, Part BLanguage: Hindi or English, your choice50100
Paper 2, Part AGeneral aptitude test50100
Paper 2, Part BSubject ability: arts, science, commerce or agriculture50100

You gain 2 marks for a correct response, lose 0.33 for an incorrect one, and get zero for a blank. Three hours for 100 questions is generous, so the real test is accuracy. A wild guess is a poor bet; an informed one, after striking out two choices, usually pays.

The host university, shift timings and minor rules can change each round. Whether you call it the UP B.Ed entrance exam syllabus or just the UP B.Ed entrance syllabus, the bulletin posted by that round's host university is the only final version. Read it before planning and once more before exam day.

UP bed entrance exam syllabus: Paper 1 topics

General knowledge (50 questions)

  • History of India, ancient to modern, and the national movement
  • Geography: physical features, resources and the basics of Uttar Pradesh
  • Constitution, polity and governance
  • Economy, everyday science and environment
  • Static GK: books and authors, awards, sports terms, important days
  • Art and culture of India and of Uttar Pradesh
  • Current affairs of the last several months

Hindi (if chosen)

  • Vyakaran: sandhi, samas, alankar, ras, chhand basics
  • Paryayvachi and vilom shabd, upsarg and pratyay
  • Muhavare and lokoktiyan, vakya shuddhi
  • Gadyansh, a short prose piece followed by questions

English (if chosen)

  • Parts of speech, tenses, articles and prepositions
  • Synonyms, antonyms, one word substitution, spelling
  • Idioms and phrases, gap filling in sentences
  • Comprehension of an unseen passage

Pick the language you write most accurately, not the one you think is easier. Hindi grammar questions in this exam can be technical, while the English part leans on vocabulary.

Paper 2 topics: general aptitude and subject ability

General aptitude test (50 questions)

  • Reasoning: series of numbers or letters, analogies, picking the odd item, codes
  • Family relations, direction sense, ranking and seating puzzles
  • Numerical ability: number system, percentage, average, ratio
  • Profit, loss and interest; speed, time and distance
  • Statements and conclusions, simple data interpretation

Subject ability (50 questions, by stream)

  • Arts: history, geography, political science, economics, sociology and similar humanities subjects
  • Science: physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics at graduation entry level
  • Commerce: accountancy, business studies, economics, banking basics
  • Agriculture: agronomy, soil science, horticulture, animal husbandry

You choose the stream on the application form, normally the one your degree belongs to. The questions sit roughly at the level of class 12 to early graduation, so school textbooks for your stream are a solid base.

Who can sit the exam

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in science, social science or humanities with at least 50 percent marks for general and OBC candidates.
  • BE or BTech holders need 55 percent with a specialisation in science and mathematics.
  • SC and ST candidates get relaxation in the percentage as per state rules.
  • If you are in your last year of the degree you may still apply, provided you show the result at counselling.

Recent bulletins have not capped age. Full rules, including the separate route for the Sanskrit B.Ed, are in the bulletin of your round.

Where your rank is really decided

Most applicants score in a narrow band on general aptitude because the questions are familiar from other competitive exams. The two parts that spread candidates out are general knowledge and subject ability. Knowing current affairs well, together with your stream's core topics, is what moves you up thousands of ranks.

Amit, a B.Com graduate from Kanpur, had eight weeks left. He gave mornings to accountancy and economics from his class 12 books, spent evenings on a month-wise current affairs list, and kept only 30 minutes a day for reasoning since his mocks already showed 38 of 50 correct there. His Paper 2 score rose faster than anything else he tried.

Eight week preparation plan

  • Weeks 1 and 2: NCERT history, geography and polity summaries for GK; one language grammar chapter a day.
  • Weeks 3 and 4: stream subject from class 11 and 12 books; start daily 20 question reasoning sets.
  • Weeks 5 and 6: current affairs revision, UP specific facts, arithmetic shortcuts.
  • Weeks 7 and 8: full mock days with both papers in two sittings, the way the real exam runs, and review every wrong answer for the negative mark it would have cost.

Frequently asked questions

Is teaching aptitude a separate section in UP B.Ed JEE?

Recent rounds list Paper 2 as general aptitude plus subject ability, without a stand-alone teaching aptitude part. Some general aptitude questions can touch classroom situations, so read a little on teacher qualities too. Check the bulletin for the round you write.

How many marks is the UP B.Ed entrance exam?

Each paper has 100 questions of 2 marks, so 200 marks a paper and 400 in all. Every incorrect answer lowers your total by 0.33.

Can a science graduate choose the arts stream in Paper 2?

The stream is chosen on the application form, and it normally follows your degree. If you have a mixed background, the bulletin explains which choices are open to you; you cannot change it after the correction window closes.

Will my age stop me from taking UP B.Ed JEE?

Recent bulletins did not fix an upper age limit. Your eligibility depends on your degree and percentage, not on age.

Which university conducts UP B.Ed JEE?

The state picks a university for each round. Bundelkhand University, Jhansi conducted the latest one; earlier rounds were held by other state universities such as Lucknow University. Watch for the official announcement before applications open.

Do both papers count for the merit list?

Yes. The rank comes from the total of Paper 1 and Paper 2, so a weak result in one paper cannot be ignored.
