The PTET syllabus splits one paper into four equal blocks (reasoning skill, a teacher's attitude, general knowledge, and command of either Hindi or English), making up one 200-question, 600-mark paper of 3 hours where a wrong guess costs nothing.
The Pre Teacher Education Test is how Rajasthan fills seats in its B.Ed colleges. The same test is held for two courses, the 2-year B.Ed after graduation and the 4-year integrated BA B.Ed or BSc B.Ed after class 12, and its organisation rotates among state universities, most recently Vardhman Mahaveer Open University, Kota. Your rank decides the college you get, so even a few extra marks matter. This page covers the PTET exam pattern, every section's topics, eligibility and an eight-week plan.

PTET exam pattern
| Section | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Part A, mental ability | 50 | 150 |
| Part B, teaching attitude and aptitude | 50 | 150 |
| Part C, general awareness | 50 | 150 |
| Part D, language proficiency (Hindi or English) | 50 | 150 |
| Total, 3 hours | 200 | 600 |
Each correct response earns 3 marks and nothing is cut for a wrong or blank one, so never leave a circle empty. The booklet is bilingual, though for the language section you answer the version you chose while applying. That leaves 54 seconds per question on average; most toppers finish the language and awareness sections quickly and bank time for the reasoning items.
PTET syllabus section by section

General awareness
- Recent national and global happenings
- India's past and its cultural heritage, plus great Indians

Language proficiency (Hindi or English)

- Reading comprehension passages
Handling the teaching attitude section
This section reads like a set of school situations: a pupil who keeps disturbing class, a parent who complains, a colleague who skips duty. You choose the reaction a mature teacher would show. There is rarely a fact to recall, so preparation is about judgement:
- Prefer options that are calm, fair to the child and involve talking to the student or the parent before punishment.
- Avoid answers that shame the child, ignore the problem or pass it to someone else.
- Lean towards inclusive, encouraging and self-improving responses.
Some reports say this part scores options by how suitable they are rather than with a single key. Read the marking note in the admission guidelines for your cycle, since that rule shapes how you should answer.
Eligibility for the two PTET courses
| Course | Qualifying exam | General | SC, ST, OBC, MBC, PwD, widow and divorced women of Rajasthan |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2-year B.Ed | Graduation or postgraduation | 50% | 45% |
| 4-year BA B.Ed or BSc B.Ed | Class 12 | 50% | 45% |
Final-year students can usually apply provisionally. Your graduation subjects decide the teaching subjects you can take in B.Ed, and that matters at counselling rather than in the test itself, because everyone sitting a given course gets an identical paper.
PTET ka syllabus in short
Put simply, PTET ka syllabus asks four things of you: can you reason quickly, do you think like a teacher, do you follow India and Rajasthan, and can you handle one language well. There is no subject paper, no maths beyond simple number series, and no B.Ed theory, because you have not studied it yet. Compare that with the B.Ed entrance syllabus of other states, many of which do include subject knowledge, for example Uttar Pradesh, whose UP B.Ed entrance paper has a subject part.
Eight weeks to cover the PTET exam syllabus
- Weeks 1 and 2: Rajasthan GK. Districts, rivers, forts, folk art and festivals give dependable marks. Pair it with 15 minutes of current affairs a day.
- Weeks 3 and 4: mental ability. Do 40 reasoning items daily, timed, rotating series, coding, direction and figure questions.
- Week 5: language. Revise grammar rules from your class 11 and 12 Hindi or English textbook and read one passage a day.
- Week 6: teaching attitude. Work through situational questions from past papers and write down the principle behind each preferred answer.
- Weeks 7 and 8: full 200-question papers in 3 hours, at least three a week. Since nothing is deducted, practise filling every answer before time ends.
If you later aim for government teaching in Rajasthan, B.Ed is only the start; the REET syllabus is the next exam on that route, and the teaching exams section covers the rest.
Frequently asked questions
What is the PTET exam pattern?
PTET has 200 multiple choice questions split evenly into four blocks of 50 covering reasoning, a teacher's attitude, general knowledge and one language. Each question is worth 3 marks, so the paper totals 600 marks in 3 hours.
Is there negative marking in PTET?
No. Wrong and unanswered questions both score zero, so attempt every question.
Is the PTET syllabus different for the 2-year and 4-year course?
The four sections are the same for both, but separate tests are held for the 2-year B.Ed and the 4-year integrated course. Eligibility differs: graduation for the first and class 12 for the second.
Which language section should I choose in PTET?
Pick whichever of Hindi or English you are stronger in. The other three sections are bilingual anyway, so your choice only affects the 150-mark language part.
Who conducts PTET?
The Rajasthan government nominates a state university each year to run the test. Vardhman Mahaveer Open University, Kota has conducted it in recent cycles, and each cycle has its own PTET portal.
Is maths part of the PTET exam syllabus?
There is no separate maths section. Some mental ability questions use numbers, such as series and simple calculations, but they test reasoning rather than school mathematics.
