B.Ed Entrance Exam Syllabus: Common Sections and Topics

TeachingState-wise testsTeaching aptitudeUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The B.Ed entrance exam syllabus in most states is built from four or five familiar blocks: teaching aptitude and attitude, mental ability or reasoning, general awareness, language skills in Hindi or English, and in some states a subject knowledge section based on your graduation stream. There is no single national B.Ed entrance; each state, or a university it nominates, sets its own test, pattern and rules.

This page lays out what those common sections contain, how a few well-known state tests differ, and how to prepare so that one study plan works for whichever exam you write. Your own state's information bulletin always has the final word on the pattern and marks.

Exam at a glance

A state university or body chosen by each state, changing in some states from year to year
  • Course

    Two-year Bachelor of Education
  • Common sections

Teaching aptitude, reasoning, general awareness, language, subject ability
  • Mode

Mostly offline OMR; a few use computer based tests

Usually a graduate or postgraduate degree with a minimum percentage set by the state

How B.Ed admission through an entrance test works

  1. Entrance test: a written objective exam held by the state's chosen university or agency.
  2. Merit list: prepared from entrance marks, category-wise. Some states also give weight to academic marks.
  3. Counselling: you choose colleges online, pay a fee and get a seat by rank.

A few central and private universities run their own tests or admit through other national tests. If you are aiming at a specific university, check whether it uses the state test, its own test, or another route.

B.Ed exam pattern in some state tests

Patterns differ widely. Here is how the main state tests compare in structure; figures for any state can change with a new bulletin.

Number of questions, marks, time and negative marking are set separately in each state's information bulletin and can change when a new university is given the job. Confirm them in the latest bulletin for your state.

Which sections deserve the most time

  • Teaching aptitude: present in every state test and often the most heavily weighted. Questions are situational; pick the option that is fair, patient and centred on the learner.
  • Reasoning: quick to improve with daily practice. Thirty minutes a day for six weeks makes a visible difference.
  • Language: grammar rules repeat, so a short revision list goes a long way.
  • General awareness: the widest section. Cover basics from NCERT class 6 to 10 books and keep a monthly current affairs habit.
Priya completed her BA in history and works as a tutor. Teaching attitude felt natural, but reasoning was new. She solved one mixed reasoning set every evening after tuition and read one page of grammar before sleeping. In three months her practice scores in reasoning doubled, while her strong subjects stayed steady.

A 2-month plan for any B.Ed entrance

  1. Weeks 1 to 2: download your state bulletin and list its sections and marks. Start daily reasoning and grammar practice.
  2. Weeks 3 to 5: teaching aptitude topics and solved situational questions; general awareness from school books.
  3. Weeks 6 to 7: subject ability if your state has it; past papers of your state test.
  4. Week 8: full mocks in the exact time limit, then revise mistakes.

Books in general terms: a teaching aptitude guide for your state test, NCERT books for GK, a Hindi vyakaran book and an English grammar book. Many B.Ed candidates later write teacher eligibility tests; the CTET syllabus shows how child development topics continue there.

B.Ed course syllabus vs entrance syllabus

Do not mix up the two: the b. ed entrance exam syllabus is not the degree syllabus. The entrance syllabus is what you study to get a seat. The B.Ed course syllabus is what you study after admission over two years: childhood and growing up, contemporary India and education, learning and teaching, pedagogy of two school subjects, assessment for learning, inclusive school, school internship and similar papers, as your university sets. Search results for b ed syllabus often show the course syllabus, so check which one a page is describing.

Frequently asked questions

B.Ed ka syllabus kya hai for the entrance?

Most state B.Ed entrance tests include teaching aptitude, reasoning, general awareness plus a Hindi or English language section. Some states add a subject section based on your graduation stream.

Is there one national bed entrance syllabus?

No. Each state or the university it nominates sets its own test and syllabus. The sections are similar, but question counts, marks and negative marking differ.

What is the bed exam pattern in most states?

Usually an offline objective paper of a few hours with sections on teaching aptitude, reasoning, GK and language. A few states hold two papers. Check your state bulletin for the exact pattern.

Do B.Ed entrance tests cut marks for wrong answers?

It depends on the state. Some tests have none, others deduct marks for wrong answers. The information bulletin for your state says which rule applies.

What should I read for the bed exam syllabus?

Use NCERT books for general awareness, a teaching aptitude guide written for your state test, a reasoning practice book and a grammar book in your chosen language. Past papers of your own state test are the best practice.

Is the b ed syllabus in Hindi different from the English one?

No. The sections are the same; only the language of the paper changes. Most state tests print questions in both Hindi and English, while the language section tests the language you choose.

Who can apply for a B.Ed entrance?

Usually graduates or postgraduates with a minimum percentage that the state fixes, often lower for reserved categories. Final-year students can apply in many states. Check the bulletin of your state.
