UPESSC paper for UP primary teachers: 120 questions, 360 marks, 2 hours, negative marking

SUPER TET Syllabus and Exam Pattern

TeachingUP primary teachersMinus 1 per errorUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The SUPER TET syllabus is the subject list for Uttar Pradesh's Assistant Teacher Recruitment Examination for primary classes 1 to 5, covering languages, maths, science, environment and social studies, general knowledge, child psychology, teaching skills, reasoning, information technology and life skills. Unlike UPTET, which only certifies that you are eligible to teach, SUPER TET is the recruitment exam itself: its score feeds the merit list for actual posts.

The exam has now passed to the UP Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), and the pattern reported with its latest advertisement is very different from the last sitting: 120 questions worth 3 marks apiece, a 360 mark total and a 2 hour clock, with a 1 mark deduction for every error, against the old 150 one mark items with no penalty. Check every figure on this page against the advertisement on the commission's website.

How SUPER TET fits into UP teacher recruitment

  1. Hold the basic qualifications: a degree, a primary teacher training course (BTC, D.El.Ed or an equivalent the advertisement accepts), and, for posts that ask for it, a pass in UPTET primary level or CTET Paper 1. See our UPTET syllabus page for that eligibility test.
  2. Write SUPER TET: one offline written paper set by UPESSC, with a qualifying standard fixed in the advertisement.
  3. Merit and document check: selection follows the written exam and document verification as laid down for that round. In older rounds the merit also used points from your academic record, so read how the current advertisement builds the list.
Rules on qualifying marks, merit weightage, age and who may apply have changed between rounds and after court rulings. Read the official UPESSC advertisement for your post before you rely on any of them.

What is new in the up super tet new syllabus

Many candidates search for an up super tet new syllabus because a fresh recruitment round was awaited for years. The new round brings three big shifts:

  • Fewer, heavier questions: 120 items at 3 marks each instead of 150 at one mark, and 30 minutes less to answer them.
  • A penalty for guessing: each wrong answer now costs 1 mark, so blind attempts can pull your score down.
  • A new weight for GK: general knowledge and current affairs now carry 25 questions, second only to the three languages together, while maths drops to 16.

The topic lists above still describe what each group covers, because the subjects stay at the elementary curriculum level with teaching method woven in. For the classes 1 to 5 breakdown and related pages, see the UP SUPER TET 1 to 5 syllabus page.

Where the marks come from

With a one mark penalty on a three mark question, every mistake erases one third of what a correct item earns. Mark an answer once you have safely eliminated two of the four options, and leave wild guesses alone. Your edge comes from three groups:

  • Languages (Hindi, Sanskrit, English): 30 questions and 90 marks. Grammar questions are short and rule based, so steady revision turns them into sure marks.
  • GK and current affairs: 25 questions, so a daily notebook of UP and national news, schemes and awards now pays more than before.
  • Psychology and teaching skills: 16 questions together, and they overlap strongly with UPTET and CTET child development, so your TET preparation carries over.
Neha cleared UPTET with good marks in child development but weak Sanskrit. For SUPER TET she spent 30 minutes a day on sandhi and dhatu roop for two months and used weekends for GK and IT. In mocks she stopped guessing on questions she could not narrow down, and her net score rose even though she attempted fewer items.

A 10-week study plan for SUPER TET

  1. Weeks 1 to 3: Hindi and Sanskrit grammar daily; maths basics; start a current affairs notebook.
  2. Weeks 4 to 6: science and social studies with UP board and NCERT class 6 to 8 books; psychology revision from your TET notes.
  3. Weeks 7 to 8: reasoning, IT and life skills; English grammar.
  4. Weeks 9 to 10: full-length 120-question mocks in 2 hours with the 1 mark penalty applied, then revision of weak subjects.

Books in general terms: NCERT and UP board school books for content, a Hindi grammar book, a basic Sanskrit vyakaran book, and a general reasoning practice book. Compare with the CTET syllabus if you are writing both.

Frequently asked questions

Super TET ka syllabus kya hai?

It covers Hindi, Sanskrit, English, maths, science, environment and social studies, general knowledge, child psychology, teaching skills, reasoning, information technology and life skills. The new UPESSC pattern puts 120 questions on these areas for 360 marks.

Is SUPER TET the same as UPTET?

No. UPTET is an eligibility test that lets you apply for teaching jobs. SUPER TET is the actual recruitment exam for assistant teacher posts in UP government primary schools, and you need a TET pass to sit it.

Is there negative marking in SUPER TET?

The last held exam had none, but the new UPESSC pattern, as reported, cuts 1 mark for each wrong answer on a 3 mark question. Check the penalty clause printed in the advertisement, and do not guess blindly.

What is the syllabus of SUPER TET for teaching aptitude?

Child development and learning theories, teaching methods for primary subjects, evaluation, inclusive education and classroom management. These overlap with the child development part of UPTET and CTET.

Can B.Ed holders apply for SUPER TET?

Court rulings have changed who may teach classes 1 to 5, and the Supreme Court has held that a two year elementary training diploma (BTC, D.El.Ed), not B.Ed, is the route for primary posts. Follow the qualification table in the official UPESSC advertisement.

When will the up super tet syllabus in Hindi be released officially?

The syllabus comes with the commission's recruitment advertisement, usually in Hindi and English. Download it from the UPESSC website and use this page as a quick guide to the subject groups.
