The REET Mains syllabus level 2 is for the Rajasthan third grade teacher posts of classes 6 to 8, and it tests six areas in one paper of 150 questions for 300 marks: Rajasthan geography, history and culture (80 marks), Rajasthan GK with education, RTE and current affairs (50), the subject of your post (120), teaching methods (20), educational psychology (20) and ICT (10).
You can sit this recruitment exam only with a level 2 REET certificate in hand. Notice how 130 of the 300 marks are about Rajasthan itself, more than the subject block. That changes how you should plan. Below are the pattern, each section's topics, the marking rules and a Hindi summary.

Each wrong response takes away a third of the 2 marks, about 0.67. RSSB papers also tell you to mark a separate option for any question you leave, and leaving too many unmarked can make you ineligible. Read the instruction page of the admit card for the exact rule, along with the minimum marks set for each category.
Rajasthan geography, history and culture (80 marks)
- Geography: physical regions, climate and monsoon, rivers, lakes and dams, soils, forests, wildlife sanctuaries, major crops, minerals, energy, population and tribes, tourism and transport
- History: early settlements (Kalibangan, Ahar, Balathal, Bairath), the ruling houses and how they governed, events of 1857 across the princely states, the struggles of farmers and tribal communities, the Praja Mandals, and the stages by which the state of Rajasthan was formed
- Art and culture: forts, temples and building styles, fairs and festivals, folk deities and saints, folk music and dance, costumes, painting schools and handicrafts
- Rajasthani language and literature: dialects, important works and writers, saint and folk literature
This section alone outweighs pedagogy, psychology and ICT combined. Many level 2 candidates already studied it for the Rajasthan CET syllabus, and that revision carries over directly.
Rajasthan GK, education and RTE (50 marks)
- State facts and symbols, important schemes, industries, research institutes, administration and sportspersons
- The educational scenario of Rajasthan: student welfare schemes of the state and the Centre, school management committees, innovations in teaching, and the National Education Policy in the state context
- The RTE Act, which guarantees schooling to every child aged 6 to 14, with the state's own RTE Rules, including free admission in private schools
- Current affairs of Rajasthan and important national events
Because current affairs keep moving, cover the last 12 months of state news in the weeks just before the paper.
School subject, pedagogy and psychology
The 60 subject questions follow the post you apply for: Hindi, English, Sanskrit or another language listed in the notification, Mathematics and Science together, or Social Studies. Questions are pitched above the class 6 to 8 textbooks, at roughly graduation depth.
Main subject areas
- Hindi: grammar (word types, gender, number, tense, case, voice), vocabulary, punctuation, idioms and proverbs, and unseen prose and verse
- English: tenses, voice, narration, transformation, clauses, vocabulary, phrasal verbs, comprehension, basic phonetics
- Mathematics: number system, polynomials, linear equations, percentage, profit and loss, interest, ratio, geometry, mensuration, statistics and probability
- Science: atoms and reactions, acids and bases, carbon compounds, cells and life processes, control and coordination, diseases and nutrition, motion, electricity, gravitation, heat, light, sound, the solar system
- Social Studies: history from the Indus Valley to the freedom struggle, physical and economic geography, the Constitution and local government, and basic economics such as sectors, poverty, money and credit
Pedagogy (20 marks)
Teaching methods and approaches for your subject, teaching aids, evaluation, and diagnostic and remedial teaching.
Educational psychology (20 marks)
Child development, heredity and environment, personality, intelligence and its measurement, learning theories, gifted and slow learners and children with special needs, learning difficulties, motivation and adjustment.

Basics of information technology, common tools and their use in schools, and the social effects of technology.
How level 2 Mains differs from REET pre
The REET pre level 2 syllabus is the eligibility test: it checks child development, language skills and subject teaching for a certificate, while the Mains ranks you for a job. Both now cut marks for wrong answers, but only the Mains carries the heavy Rajasthan GK load. If you teach primary classes instead, the REET Mains level 1 syllabus is the matching exam for primary posts, with its own subject coverage.
Planning around the REET Mains syllabus level 2 weightage
- Month 1: Rajasthan history and art and culture, with short notes you can revise in an hour.
- Month 2: Rajasthan geography, then the RTE Act, rules and state schemes.
- Month 3: your subject, chapter by chapter, adding the pedagogy of each topic as you go.
- Month 4: psychology, ICT and current affairs, and two full 150-question papers a week with negative marking applied.
