The Bihar police cut off for constable advertisement 01/2023 closed at 68 marks for General candidates and between 50 and 62 for the reserved lists, as reported from the final merit list CSBC released in May 2025. Those marks come from the 100 mark physical efficiency test, because the written paper only has to be passed.
That one rule changes your whole plan. Here you get the category wise final figures for 01/2023, explains the written qualifying mark, notes where the newer 01/2025 cycle stands and points you to the sub inspector cut off, which works very differently.

How the constable cut off is decided
CSBC runs constable recruitment for Bihar Police and the Bihar Special Armed Police in a fixed order: an OMR written test, a physical standards test, a physical efficiency test, then documents and medical checks. The written test has 100 questions for 100 marks, and the pass line is 30 percent. Passing is all it does; the written score never enters the final list.
Your final rank is set by PET marks, with marks out of 100 shared by a run, a shot put throw and a high jump, as explained on our Bihar police constable syllabus page. So when people talk about the final cut off, they mean the lowest PET score that still made the list for a category. Where several candidates tie on that score, the merit list also shows a date of birth line for the tie break.
Bihar police cut off for advertisement 01/2023
| Category | Closing marks |
|---|---|
| General | 68 |
| EWS | 58 |
| BC | 62 |
| EBC | 58 |
| BC women | 58 |
| SC | 50 |
| ST | 54 |
For candidates selected against the home guard quota, the General figure was reported as 42. Of the 21,391 posts, 19,958 were in Bihar Police and 1,433 in BSAP, according to reports of the final result.
Notice how tightly the figures sit. The whole spread from SC to General is 18 marks, and in PET terms that is the difference between one running band and the next, or a few feet in the shot put. A single event can decide your selection.
The written qualifying mark
Because the written paper only filters, there is no published ranking cut off for it in the same sense as in other police exams. Your task is to cross 30 percent, which is 30 marks out of 100, and to be among the candidates called for the physical test. CSBC releases the list of written test qualifiers with the result, and only those on it go to PST and PET.
Do not treat 30 as a target. How many reach the ground events depends on vacancies, and you want a comfortable written score so that a rescheduled event or a re test never leaves you short. Aim for well above the minimum in mocks, then move most of your time to the ground.
Where the 01/2025 cycle stands
The next constable drive, advertisement 01/2025, covers 19,838 posts. Its written test was held in phases in July and August 2025, and the written result was reported on 26 September 2025, with the physical tests to follow. Final cut off marks for this cycle will only be known once CSBC issues its final selection list following the PET and document checks.
Until then, use the 01/2023 figures as a guide to the level of PET performance that has been needed, not as a forecast. A larger or smaller number of posts in a category, and how many strong runners turn up, will move the line.
Turning the PET cut off into a training goal
General list candidates wanting a safety cushion over 68 should aim to score in the 70s or higher. Half the PET total sits in the run, so that event is where most of the gap is made up. For men, reported bands for the latest advertisement give 50 marks for 1.6 km in 5 minutes or less and 40 marks up to 5 minutes 20 seconds; shot put and high jump add up to 25 each.
Sub inspector cut off works differently
Sub inspector posts go through BPSSC, a separate state commission, rather than CSBC. There, a written prelims and mains decide the merit, and the physical test is a qualifying step; read the BPSSC advertisement for the detail. Daroga figures are collected in our separate Bihar SI cut off guide, and the Bihar police syllabus page sets out both exam patterns side by side.
