Airforce Medical Assistant Syllabus, Exam Pattern and Fitness Test

Defence and police12th with PCBRegular entryUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The airforce medical assistant syllabus covers a single 45 minute online test with two papers, English at the Class 12 CBSE level and Reasoning and General Awareness (RAGA), where a correct response adds one mark and an incorrect one subtracts 0.25. Clear it and you move to a physical fitness test, two adaptability tests, document checks and a full medical at an Air Force selection centre.

Medical Assistant is a Group Y trade, and unlike most airmen entries today it is a regular enrolment outside the Agnipath scheme, with an initial engagement of 20 years. Interestingly, the test does not ask Biology questions even though Biology is compulsory for eligibility. Here is the full airforce medical assistant exam pattern, what each paper asks and how to plan for the physical stage.

Three phases of MA selection

Phase I is the online test at a centre in a city you pick while registering. Results come as normalised marks, and you must clear each paper on its own as well as reach the overall cut off.

Phase II happens at an Airmen Selection Centre on the date in your admit card. It includes document verification, the fitness test and both adaptability tests. Adaptability Test I is a written objective test of how suited you are to serving in varied terrain and weather, and Adaptability Test II checks how well you would adjust to service life.

Phase III is the medical examination with routine tests. After that a provisional select list and then an enrolment list are published on the CASB portal.

Airforce medical assistant exam pattern

Phase I online test for the Medical Assistant trade
PaperLevelLanguage
EnglishClass 12 CBSE syllabusEnglish only
Reasoning and General Awareness (RAGA)School level reasoning, numeracy and GKHindi and English
Total time: 45 minutes. Right answer +1, wrong answer minus 0.25, skipped 0

The non science test that MA candidates sit is usually described as 20 English and 30 RAGA questions, which is the standard airmen format for this stream. The CASB advertisement itself gives only the papers and the 45 minute duration, so check the exam instructions on your admit card for exact counts. Marks may be normalised across shifts, and cut offs are applied on normalised scores.

English paper topics

The English paper is pitched at Class 12 board level. Plan to cover:

  • Tense use, articles, prepositions, modals and agreement between subject and verb
  • Synonyms, antonyms, idioms and phrasal verbs
  • Choosing the correct word for a blank and putting sentence parts in order
  • Direct and indirect speech, active and passive forms
  • A short passage with comprehension questions, and a cloze paragraph

Since the paper penalises guesses by 0.25, leave out a vocabulary item you truly do not know rather than guessing blindly between four options.

RAGA: reasoning and general awareness

Reasoning and numeracy

  • Missing terms in number or alphabet patterns, paired word logic, the item that does not fit, coded words
  • Directions, ranking, family trees, simple syllogisms
  • Picture based items: mirror images, figure completion, counting shapes
  • Arithmetic such as percentages, ratios, averages, both kinds of interest, trading gains and losses, and speed problems

General awareness

  • Class 6 to 10 social science: past events, maps, Constitution basics and money matters
  • General science, including human body and health basics, which suit an MA aspirant
  • Current national and defence related events, awards, sports and important days

The same RAGA paper is set for other non science airmen trades, see our Air Force Y group syllabus.

Physical fitness and medical standards

PFT for Medical Assistant (latest advertisement)
EventTarget
1.6 km runWithin 7 minutes; 7 minutes 30 seconds for pharmacy qualified candidates above 21
Push ups10 in one minute
Sit ups10 in one minute
Squats20 in one minute

After the run you get a 10 minute recovery, and short breaks separate the strength events. In the medical, the minimum height is 152 cm and the chest must be at least 77 cm with 5 cm expansion, while weight should suit your height and age. Vision, hearing and dental standards also apply, and past LASIK or PRK surgery is not accepted.

Standards are copied from the latest Medical Assistant advertisement. The CASB can revise them for any intake, so read the advertisement for your intake on the CASB portal before you start training.

Who can apply for the MA trade

Two streams are open to unmarried Indian men (and Gorkhas from Nepal):

  • Class 12 stream: a 10+2 pass, or an equivalent two year vocational qualification in which PCB and English were taken as regular subjects, at least 50% aggregate and 50% in English. The upper limit is 21 years at enrolment.
  • Pharmacy stream: the same 10+2 conditions plus a diploma or B.Sc in Pharmacy with 50% and registration with a State Pharmacy Council or the Pharmacy Council of India. The upper limit is 24 years, and married candidates are allowed within a narrower birth date window.

Percentages are taken without rounding up, so 49.99% counts as 49%. Exact birth date windows change with every intake.

Covering the airforce medical assistant syllabus in ten weeks

Arjun finished Class 12 with PCB and has ten weeks before the online test. Four mornings every week he heads to a nearby ground, starting at a gentle 9 minute pace for 1.6 km and cutting about 15 seconds every week. Evenings go to one English grammar topic and one reasoning type a day, with 15 minutes of GK. From week seven he sits a full 45 minute mock every other day and studies his wrong answers.
  • Do push ups, sit ups and squats in sets from week one; many candidates fail on strength events, not the run.
  • Use NCERT English and science books for the base, and the model papers on the CASB portal for format.
  • Practise the written adaptability style of questions calmly; honesty matters more than a perfect image.

Frequently asked questions

Is Biology asked in the Air Force medical assistant exam?

No separate Biology paper is set. The online test has English and RAGA only, although Biology in Class 12 is required to apply. Some general science questions in RAGA can touch biology basics.

Is the medical assistant post under Agniveer?

No. Recent advertisements describe it as a regular airmen entry outside the Agnipath scheme, with an initial engagement of 20 years that can be extended up to age 57.

What penalty applies to an incorrect MA answer?

Each wrong answer costs 0.25 mark, a right answer earns 1 and an unattempted one earns zero. You also have to clear each paper separately.

Can girls apply for the Air Force medical assistant trade?

The recent advertisements open this trade to male candidates only. Women can look at other entries where the notice permits them.

How long is the 1.6 km run for medical assistant candidates?

You must finish it within 7 minutes. Pharmacy qualified candidates above 21 get 7 minutes 30 seconds.

Can I apply with a B.Pharm or D.Pharm?

Yes. Your 10+2 must still meet the PCB and English marks rule, plus the pharmacy qualification with 50% and valid registration, and the age limit goes up to 24.
