Army Agniveer GD: online CEE on GK, science, maths and reasoning, then physical tests

Agniveer Syllabus and Army GD Exam Pattern

Defence and policeClass 10 levelOnline CEEUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The Agniveer syllabus for the Army General Duty (GD) post has four subjects in an online Common Entrance Exam (CEE): general knowledge, general science, mathematics and logical reasoning, all at roughly Class 10 level, in a 50-question paper of one hour. Clearing the CEE takes you to the recruitment rally, where a running and pull-up test, an adaptability test and a medical decide the final merit.

Here you will find the Army GD exam pattern, what each of the four subjects asks, the physical standards you need to train for, and a study plan sized for school leavers. Once you have taken the CEE, the Agniveer cut off page explains how the merit list is made.

How Agniveer GD selection works

Agniveers join the Army for a fixed four-year engagement under the Agnipath scheme. GD is the largest entry, and it is the one most people mean when they search for the army GD syllabus. Selection runs in two phases.

  1. Phase 1: the online CEE at a centre you choose while applying. It is offered in many Indian languages, with reports listing 13.
  2. Phase 2: the recruitment rally run by your Army Recruiting Office, covering the physical fitness test, physical measurements, an adaptability test, document checks and a medical examination.

The final merit list combines your CEE result with your physical test score and any bonus marks, and seats are filled against the vacancies of each recruiting zone.

Under the scheme printed in earlier notifications, each correct answer earned 2 marks (100 in all) and a wrong answer cost 0.5 marks, with a minimum pass mark set by the Army. Reports on recent CEE cycles describe the marking differently, for example one mark per question (50 in all) with 0.25 deducted for each wrong answer.

Because the marking scheme has been reported in more than one way, open the marking rules printed for your recruitment year on joinindianarmy.nic.in before you decide how many guesses to risk.

Physical fitness test standards

The physical test is where many candidates who cleared the CEE drop out, so train for it alongside your books. Recent GD notifications have used this scoring for male candidates:

Height, chest and weight standards depend on the region you belong to, and women's GD (military police) has separate events, so check the standards table for your zone in the rally notification.

Where to focus your preparation

  • Maths and science together carry 30 of the 50 questions. Both are pitched at the Class 9 and 10 level, so school textbooks are the right base.
  • Reasoning has only five questions but they are quick to solve. One week of practice is usually enough to collect them.
  • GK is the most unpredictable section. Static topics such as history, geography and defence facts are steadier scorers than broad current affairs.
  • Speed matters. Fifty questions in sixty minutes leaves a little over a minute each, so practise full timed sets on a screen.

An eight-week plan for the CEE and the rally

  1. Weeks 1 and 2: maths basics (percentage, ratio, interest, speed) and a run of 2 km every morning at an easy pace.
  2. Weeks 3 and 4: Class 9 and 10 science chapters, ten questions a day; start pull-up practice with negative reps.
  3. Weeks 5 and 6: GK notes and defence facts, reasoning sets; add interval runs to bring your 1.6 km time down.
  4. Weeks 7 and 8: one timed 50-question mock every other day, plus a timed 1.6 km trial each week.
Ravi passed Class 10 with 61% and runs 1.6 km in about 6 minutes. He moved his runs to early morning, added hill sprints twice a week and reached 5 min 25 s by week 7, which lifted him into Group I and its 60 marks. On paper, he kept scoring well in maths but lost marks in GK, so he spent his last fortnight only on static GK.

Books and practice material

NCERT science and maths books for Classes 9 and 10 cover nearly everything the CEE asks in those subjects. For GK, a standard general knowledge book plus a monthly current affairs summary is enough. The official recruitment site posts notices, admit cards and results, so keep it bookmarked through the cycle. If you are also considering other forces, compare this with the Navy SSR syllabus and the Air Force X group syllabus, which need Class 12.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Agniveer GD exam pattern?

The online CEE has 50 multiple choice questions to be answered in one hour: 15 each from general knowledge, general science and maths, and 5 from logical reasoning. The marks per question and the negative marking rule are printed in each year's notification.

Agniveer ka syllabus kya hai?

It is general knowledge, general science (physics, chemistry and biology), maths and reasoning at about the Class 10 level, followed by physical tests at the rally. The Hindi summary on this page lists the same points.

Is the army GD ka syllabus the same as the Agniveer GD syllabus?

Yes. Since the Agnipath scheme began, General Duty soldiers join as Agniveer GD, so the army GD syllabus searches lead to the same CEE and rally.

What is the minimum qualification for Agniveer GD?

Class 10 with at least 45% marks in aggregate and 33% in each subject, or the matching grades for boards that use grading. Age must fall between 17.5 and 21 years on the date the notification sets.

How hard is the 1.6 km run?

Finishing in 5 minutes 30 seconds or less puts you in Group I with 60 marks, and up to 5 minutes 45 seconds gives Group II with 48 marks. Beginners often need six to eight weeks of steady training to get under the Group I time.

Are other Agniveer posts tested on a different syllabus?

Yes. Technical, clerk and store keeper technical, and tradesman entries have their own papers and qualifications. See the Army clerk syllabus for the clerk paper.
