Army Nursing Assistant Syllabus, Exam Pattern and Preparation Guide

Defence and police12th PCBOnline CEEUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The army nursing assistant syllabus covers five subjects in one online Common Entrance Exam: biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and general knowledge, set at the class 11 and 12 science level. Fifty questions make up the paper, each one scored out of four so the ceiling is 200, and a single mark goes for each error.

Soldier Technical (Nursing Assistant) is a science stream entry into the Army Medical Corps, open to class 12 students who studied physics, chemistry, biology and English. Read on for the army nursing assistant exam pattern, the chapters behind all five subjects, the rally test you must pass after the written stage and a study plan that puts biology and chemistry first, since they carry the most marks.

Selection stages for Soldier Technical (Nursing Assistant)

The nursing assistant entry is recruited through the same online CEE window that the Army runs for Agniveer categories, but it is a separate category with its own paper and eligibility. The steps are:

  1. Online CEE at a centre chosen when you apply.
  2. Physical fitness test at the recruitment rally: a 1.6 km run and pull-ups that are scored, plus a ditch jump and a balance walk that are pass or fail.
  3. Physical measurement of height, chest and weight against the standards for your region.
  4. Medical examination by Army doctors.
  5. Document verification of your class 10 and 12 records, domicile, caste and other certificates.

Final merit is settled only after the rally stages, so a strong written score helps only if you also clear the run and the medical.

Biology1560
Chemistry1560
General knowledge1040

Correct answers earn 4 and errors lose 1. Against four options that penalty is mild: once you can strike out even one choice, attempting tends to pay. What hurts is misreading questions you actually know. The paper has been reported as one hour long.

The total of 50 questions and the plus 4, minus 1 marking come from recent reports of the CEE. The per subject split and the time limit should be confirmed in the notification for your year on joinindianarmy.nic.in, along with the minimum pass mark the Army sets.

Biology and chemistry topics

Biology, 15 questions

  • Cell structure, cell division and the basic tissues
  • Human systems: digestion, blood and circulation, breathing, excretion, nerves, hormones, bones and muscles
  • Nutrition, vitamins and deficiency diseases
  • Common human diseases, their causes and prevention
  • Genetics and heredity basics
  • Plant life, classification of living things, ecology and pollution

Chemistry, 15 questions

  • Atomic structure, atomic mass, and physical and chemical changes
  • Chemical bonding and the periodic table
  • Oxidation and reduction, acids, bases and salts
  • Metals, non-metals and common gases
  • Solutions and concentration
  • Basic organic chemistry and man made materials such as plastics, fibres and fertilisers
  • Radioactivity basics

These two subjects decide the result for most candidates. Questions are mostly direct and fact based, closer to the NCERT text of classes 11 and 12 than to a medical entrance paper.

Physics, maths and general knowledge topics

Physics, 5 questions: units and measurement, motion and force, work, energy and power, heat, sound and waves, light and optics, electricity and magnetism, and simple instruments.

Mathematics, 5 questions: numbers and their factors, ratio, percentage, average, gain and loss, interest sums, speed problems, mensuration, simple algebra and basic trigonometry.

General knowledge, 10 questions: India's past across all periods, maps of India and the world, constitutional basics, sports, awards, important days, defence matters such as ranks and recent exercises, and current events.

Physics and maths together are only 40 marks, so keep them to formula revision and quick practice. General knowledge is worth the same 40 marks, which makes a short daily reading habit worthwhile.

Eligibility for the nursing assistant entry

  • Education: a class 12 science pass covering PCB plus English, or physics, chemistry, botany, zoology and English, with at least 50% aggregate and at least 40% in each subject.
  • Age: 17 and a half to 23 years, as calculated on the age reference day the newest notice names.
  • Physical and medical: height, chest and weight vary by region, and medical standards are listed in the rally notice.

Sepoy Pharma, a related medical entry, asks for a pharmacy diploma or degree and has a different age band, so do not confuse the two when filling the form.

Army nursing assistant syllabus in eight weeks: CEE and rally

  1. Weeks 1 and 2: human physiology and cell biology from class 11 NCERT, 30 questions a day, and an easy 2 km run each morning.
  2. Weeks 3 and 4: chemistry, starting with atomic structure, bonding, acids and bases, then metals and organic basics.
  3. Week 5: genetics, diseases, ecology and plant topics; start interval runs and pull-up practice.
  4. Week 6: physics and maths formula sheets with 20 mixed questions daily, plus GK notes.
  5. Weeks 7 and 8: a timed 50 question online mock every second day, along with one stopwatch run over 1.6 km every week.
Kiran finished class 12 with PCB and English at 64% and wants to join the Army Medical Corps. In her first mock she got 34 right and 16 wrong for 120 marks. When she checked the wrong ones, six were chemistry questions she knew but had rushed. She now reads every chemistry stem twice, and her next mock gave her 40 right and 10 wrong, a score of 150.

Books and practice material

Class 11 and 12 NCERT books for biology and chemistry handle almost every science item, and class 10 NCERT is enough for physics and maths at this level. For general knowledge, a standard GK book with a monthly current affairs summary works well. Check the official recruitment site for the notification, admit card and result.

The general duty paper is explained on our Agniveer syllabus page, and how marks have translated into selection on the Agniveer cut off page. Those weighing a civilian nursing course instead, compare the AIIMS BSc nursing syllabus with this one. For other uniformed jobs, browse our defence and police listing.

It has 50 questions, and at 4 marks each the maximum is 200. Biology and chemistry make up 30 of the 50 questions as per reported patterns.

Is the nursing assistant CEE negatively marked?

Yes. Each error takes away 1 mark, while each right answer adds 4. Unattempted questions score zero with no penalty.

Is Army nursing assistant an Agniveer post?

Soldier Technical (Nursing Assistant) is listed as a separate category in the Army's recruitment notice and is recruited in the same CEE cycle. Check the terms of engagement printed for your year in the official notification.

Can I apply with class 12 in commerce or arts?

No. You need class 12 science with physics, chemistry, biology (or botany and zoology) and English, with 50% aggregate and 40% in each subject.

What ages are allowed for the nursing assistant entry?

The latest cycle allowed candidates aged 17 and a half up to 23, measured on the notice's reference date. Confirm the range in the newest notice, since the Army can change it.

Where should my preparation begin?

Begin with biology and then chemistry; the pair supplies 120 out of 200 marks. Human physiology, diseases and basic chemical reactions are the most dependable areas.
