The UP super tet syllabus 1 to 5 now comes from UPESSC, the state's Education Service Selection Commission, and its fresh paper packs 120 objective items carrying 3 marks apiece for a 360 mark total, to be solved in 2 hours with 1 mark cut for every wrong answer. The questions come from ten groups: General Knowledge, reasoning, the three languages, science, mathematics, environment and social studies, teaching skills, child psychology, information technology and life skills.
This is a big change from the last SUPER TET, which had 150 one mark questions and no penalty. Old guidebooks and notes still describe that pattern, so re-plan your preparation around the new marks table below.

Who sets the paper and who can sit it
Recruitment of primary teachers in UP was earlier handled by the examination regulatory authority in Prayagraj. The latest advertisement comes from UPESSC instead, covering urban assistant teacher posts under the basic education department and a smaller set of posts attached to primary sections in aided secondary schools.
To apply you need a graduation degree, a two year NCTE recognised teacher training course like BTC or D.El.Ed, and a qualifying TET score for the primary classes, from either the state TET or the central one. For the open category the window runs from 21 to 40 years, reckoned on whichever date the commission notifies; UP's reserved groups get extra years. Details of the TET itself are on our UPTET syllabus page.
Subject wise marks in the UP super tet syllabus 1 to 5
| Subject group | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Hindi, Sanskrit and English (combined) | 30 | 90 |
| General Knowledge and current affairs | 25 | 75 |
| Mathematics | 16 | 48 |
| Science | 8 | 24 |
| Environment and social studies | 8 | 24 |
| Teaching skills | 8 | 24 |
| Child psychology | 8 | 24 |
| Life skills, management and attitude | 8 | 24 |
| Logical reasoning | 5 | 15 |
| Information technology | 4 | 12 |
| Total | 120 | 360 |
Two groups, languages and GK, hold 165 of the 360 marks between them. Mathematics adds 48 more, so these three together are close to 60 percent of the paper.
This table follows the structure published with the commission's advertisement as reported by several sources. Get the commission's own syllabus file from upessc.up.gov.in and tally each number before you finalise your timetable.
What the minus 1 rule means for you
Since a correct choice earns 3 and an incorrect one costs 1, picking at random from four options leaves you, on average, exactly where you started. Marking two options for one question also counts as wrong. In practice:
- Answer every question you know for sure, then return to doubtful ones.
- Once two options are eliminated, a guess becomes worth taking.
- The paper allows sixty seconds per item. Language and GK items take less, so carry the saved time to maths.
Accuracy now matters more than attempting all 120. Ten wrong answers cost you as much as three and a third correct ones.

The broad subject list is similar, so older notes on child psychology, Hindi grammar or maths are still useful. What has changed is speed and caution. Our general SUPER TET syllabus page has background on the last exam.
Eight weeks, group by group
- Weeks 1 and 2: Hindi and Sanskrit grammar daily, English usage on alternate days, and a running GK notebook.
- Weeks 3 and 4: maths chapters at class 6 to 8 level, timed; science and EVS from NCERT and state textbooks written for classes 3 to 8.
- Weeks 5 and 6: child psychology and teaching skills from your TET notes; life skills, IT and reasoning in short daily slots.
- Weeks 7 and 8: four or more full 120 question mocks in 2 hours with negative marking, then revise only the groups where you lost marks.
Shalini, a private school teacher from Varanasi, gets two hours of study every evening. In her first mock she attempted all 120 and lost 22 marks to wrong answers. In the next one she skipped 14 doubtful items, and her score rose by 18 marks with the same knowledge.

Frequently asked questions
How long is the new UP primary teacher paper?
It has 120 objective items at 3 marks apiece, totalling 360. You get 2 hours to finish the paper.
Does the new SUPER TET penalise mistakes?
Yes. Each incorrect response loses 1 mark, and filling two bubbles for one question is treated the same way. Unanswered questions get zero.
Can I apply with only UPTET and no D.El.Ed?
No. The TET alone is not enough; you also need a degree and a primary teacher training course like BTC or D.El.Ed. Check the advertisement for the full list of accepted training courses.
Which group gives the most marks?
The combined language group of Hindi, Sanskrit and English, with 30 questions and 90 marks. GK and current affairs come next with 25 questions and 75 marks.
Is CTET accepted for the UP primary teacher exam?
Coverage of the newest notice states that either the state or the central TET at primary level is valid, which means CTET Paper 1 qualifies. Confirm this in the official notice, and see our UPTET eligibility page for TET rules.
Is the old SUPER TET syllabus still useful?
The topics are largely the same, so old notes help. The question count, marks, time and penalty have changed, so practise only with papers that follow the new 120 question pattern.
