SSC GD Previous Year Question Paper: How to Use It

SSC and central80 questionsTimed practiceUpdated 26 Oct 2026

Each SSC GD previous year question paper is a faithful sample of the constable CBT, since it shows the exact mix of 80 questions across reasoning, GK, elementary maths and English or Hindi that SSC sets in 60 minutes. A handful of solved shifts shows you the true difficulty far better than hearsay.

The 2024 and 2025 cycles each ran over many days and dozens of shifts, so there is no single paper. Each shift had its own set, and all of them followed the same blueprint. Read on for what those shifts asked, a routine for using them, a handful of practice items of our own, and how to get genuine copies from SSC.

Blueprint shared by the latest GD shifts

Structure of recent SSC GD CBT papers

Reasoning (Part A)2040
GK and current awareness (Part B)2040
Elementary maths (Part C)2040
Language: English or Hindi (Part D)2040

Each correct response is worth 2 marks and each wrong one loses 0.25. Older papers, from before SSC moved to this 80 question format, had a different number of questions and a longer time limit. They help with concepts, though only recent shifts give a fair timing check. For every topic SSC names, open the GD constable syllabus.

What recent shifts tell you

Going through several shifts from the 2024 and 2025 cycles, a few patterns stand out clearly:

  • Reasoning: mostly short items such as analogies, odd one out, series, coding, mirror or water reflections, folded paper and simple dice. Few questions need more than 30 seconds once you know the type.
  • Maths: straight class 10 arithmetic: percentages, profit, loss and discount, both kinds of interest, ratios, averages, work problems, speed questions and simplification. Mensuration of simple figures appears in most shifts.
  • GK: the widest spread. Static history, geography, polity and basic science sit next to sports, awards, government schemes and appointments in the news shortly before each shift.
  • English or Hindi: word meaning items such as synonyms, opposites, idioms and one word substitutes, plus finding the error, choosing a word for a gap and a short reading passage.

Since GK changes every shift, past papers matter most for the other three parts, where question types repeat closely.

If you study in Hindi, each Hindi medium ssc gd previous year question paper keeps the same four parts, and the maths items use the same numbers in both languages. For the ssc gd previous year question paper maths section in particular, rework every question you got wrong a week later without looking at the solution.

A practice routine built around past shifts

  1. First paper, untimed: attempt one full shift slowly to see where you stand. Mark every question you guessed.
  2. Sort your errors: list them under concept gaps, silly mistakes and time pressure. Each needs a different fix.
  3. Sectional sets: for two weeks, solve the 20 reasoning or 20 maths questions of a shift in 12 to 15 minutes.
  4. Full timed papers: then sit a complete shift in 60 minutes, three or four times a week, at the same hour as your likely exam slot.
  5. Review day: keep one day a week only for reviewing wrong answers and rewriting short notes.
Sunil works in a shop in Nagpur and gets free time only after 9 pm. He solves one sectional set on weekdays and a full paper on Sunday morning. After six Sundays his attempt count rose from 58 to 74 questions, and his wrong answers fell because he stopped guessing GK questions he had no clue about.

Scoring well despite negative marking

With 2 marks for a right answer and 0.25 off for a wrong one, a sensible guess between two options is worth taking. A blind guess among four options is still slightly positive on average, but it adds stress and wastes time. A practical rule from past paper practice: attempt every question you can narrow to two choices, skip only the ones you cannot read or understand at all.

Track your accuracy in each mock. If your accuracy in GK drops below about 70 percent, you are guessing too freely there.

Sample questions in the SSC GD style

Try this short set, pitched at GD constable level and drafted by our team. Answers sit in italics after each item.

  1. Select the odd one out: 27, 64, 125, 150. Answer: 150, the others are perfect cubes.
  2. A school bag is priced at 800 rupees and gives a 15 percent discount. What is the selling price? Answer: 680 rupees.
  3. Which river is known as the Dakshin Ganga? Answer: Godavari.
  4. Choose the synonym of BRAVE: (a) timid (b) courageous (c) lazy (d) quiet. Answer: (b) courageous.
  5. If PEN is coded as QFO, how is INK coded? Answer: JOL, each letter moves one step ahead.

Official source for each ssc gd previous year question paper and answer key

Once a CBT cycle ends, the commission posts tentative answer keys on its website along with the candidates' question papers for a short window. Candidates who appeared can log in and save their own response sheet. Visit the official site at ssc.gov.in and look under the answer key section for Constable (GD).

  • Save your own response sheet during that window. It is the most accurate copy of a real paper you will get.
  • Papers in Hindi are part of the same release, so a Hindi version of the GD paper, often searched as ssc gd ka previous year question paper, comes through that same login.
  • An SSC GD previous year question paper book, or an SSC GD mock test series, adds volume, though printed solutions sometimes carry errors, so verify doubtful answers with SSC's own key.
The answer key window closes after a few days. If you plan to sit the next cycle, note the dates when the current one ends and save copies while they are available.

When your mock scores settle, compare them with the state wise GD cut offs and make sure your age and height fit the constable eligibility rules.

Frequently asked questions

How many past GD shifts are enough before the exam?

Around 20 to 30 complete recent shifts, along with sectional sets, works for most people. A careful look at every mistake teaches more than simply adding papers.

Are SSC GD questions repeated from previous years?

Exact repeats are rare, but question types repeat closely in reasoning, maths and the language part. GK facts sometimes come back, especially static ones like rivers, dances and constitutional articles.

Is a Hindi version of past SSC GD papers available?

Yes. The question papers that SSC shares with its answer keys are available in the language you chose, and Hindi is one of them. Saved Hindi copies circulate widely among candidates after each cycle.

Are older 100 question papers still useful?

They still teach concepts well. For timing, rely on recent 80 question papers, since the time per question and the mark scheme are different now.

How much time should I give each section?

Many candidates spend about 10 to 12 minutes on reasoning, 12 on English or Hindi, 10 on GK and the rest on maths. Adjust after your first few timed papers.
