RPSC SI syllabus for Sub Inspector and Platoon Commander

Civil servicesGraduate levelRajasthan PoliceUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The rpsc si syllabus rests on two objective papers: General Hindi, and General Knowledge with General Science. Each has 100 multiple choice questions for 200 marks, you get 2 hours per paper, and each incorrect bubble shaves a third off the 2 marks at stake.

This guide walks through the commission's syllabus document unit by unit, explains the marks you can earn on the running track, and gives you a short summary in Hindi. The recruitment covers Sub Inspector posts in Rajasthan Police along with Platoon Commander posts, and the latest drive advertised 1,015 posts.

How the selection moves from paper to posting

RPSC runs the selection in four rounds, and only the first is a written test:

  1. Written examination on OMR sheets, both papers usually on consecutive days.
  2. Body measurement and a scored fitness round, run by the police department for those shortlisted.
  3. Interview, a personality assessment for candidates who come through the earlier rounds.
  4. Document verification and medical check before appointment.

Because the written score sets the list for the physical round, your first months of study belong to Paper I and Paper II. If you also plan to apply for the constable level posts, the Rajasthan police syllabus page explains that separate scheme.

IGeneral Hindi1002002 hours

Total100 + 1004004 hours

All questions carry equal marks, so each one is worth 2. A wrong bubble costs you about 0.67, which means two careless guesses wipe out most of one right answer. A skipped item scores zero rather than a minus, but read the booklet instructions on how blanks must be shown, because RPSC has used an extra option for unattempted questions.

Minimum qualifying marks per paper, the shortlisting ratio for the physical round and interview marks are fixed in the advertisement. Trust only the advertisement RPSC itself publishes, not second hand summaries.

Paper I: General Hindi units in the RPSC SI syllabus

The Hindi paper is pure language. There is no literature or poet list to memorise; every unit is grammar or usage:

  • Sandhi and samas, with splitting and joining words
  • Upsarg and pratyay: building words from prefixes and suffixes
  • Word classes: sangya, sarvanam, visheshan, kriya and avyay
  • Synonyms, opposites, and pairs of words that look alike but mean different things
  • Shabd shuddhi: correcting misspelt words
  • Grammatical categories: ling, vachan, purush, kaal, vritti and vachya (voice)
  • Vakya rachna and vakya shuddhi: building and correcting sentences
  • Viram chinh: punctuation
  • Muhavare and lokoktiyan
  • Paribhashik shabdavali: Hindi equivalents of office and legal terms

Questions here are short and quick to read, so a well drilled candidate finishes Paper I with time to spare. Use that time to recheck the sandhi and spelling items, where most slips happen.

Paper II: what each unit asks

Rajasthan

History and cultural heritage, forts and monuments, art forms, melas, lok devta and sant tradition, tourist places and notable people. Rajasthan geography adds minerals, climate, irrigation and population, and the polity unit covers the state's political and administrative setup.

India and the world

India's story from its earliest kingdoms to independence, plus the freedom movement and social reform; Indian and world geography (resources, industry, agriculture, transport); constitutional development, fundamental rights and duties, key institutions and Panchayati Raj; economic basics such as inflation, budgeting, banking, planning, poverty, unemployment and welfare schemes.

Science, reasoning and numeracy

Everyday science, electronics and information technology, space and defence technology, biotechnology, health, and agriculture with a Rajasthan angle. Logical and analytical reasoning, series and coding. Basic numeracy: number system, ratio and proportion, percentage, interest and data interpretation.

Current affairs

Events at state, national and international level, people and places in the news, and sports.

PET scoring slabs reported for recent recruitment

A sixteen week order of study

Plan around the fact that Paper II carries the same 200 marks as Paper I but covers far more ground.

  • Weeks 1 to 5: the state's dynasties, heritage and folk culture, followed by its physical map. Build a district map with forts, fairs, minerals and dams marked on it.
  • Weeks 6 to 9: Indian polity, the national movement and economy, using NCERT texts as your base.
  • Weeks 10 to 12: science, reasoning and numeracy, two topics a week with 40 practice questions each.
  • Weeks 13 to 16: full length papers on back to back days, followed by error logs.
  • Every day: 25 Hindi grammar questions plus fifteen minutes on the day's state and national news.
Mahendra, a commerce graduate from Jodhpur, kept scoring well in numeracy but lost marks to guesses in Rajasthan culture. He set a rule: attempt only when two options can be ruled out. Over four mock papers his wrong answers fell from 22 to 9, which at 0.67 marks each was worth more than eight extra marks.

Start sprint and long jump training once the written result is near, since the PET slabs reward every second saved. Look at the wider RPSC syllabus guide when you plan to sit more of the commission's tests.

Books and official sources

School level Hindi grammar is enough for Paper I. For Paper II, state board textbooks covering Rajasthan's past and its land, together with NCERT books on Indian polity, history and science cover the base. Download the syllabus and advertisement from the RPSC website, and keep the printed syllabus beside you to tick off units. Other state police and SI tests are grouped under defence and police exams.

You face 100 objective items in the Hindi paper and another 100 in the GK and science paper, with 200 marks riding on each.

In which language is the RPSC SI paper set?

The question booklet is bilingual, in Hindi and English, though Paper I itself tests Hindi language.
