The RPSC 1st grade syllabus, which applies to the School Lecturer recruitment for classes 11 and 12 in Rajasthan, is examined through a pair of multiple choice papers. The first, general awareness and general studies, is worth 150 marks; the second, built around the subject you will teach, is worth 300. Each item carries 2 marks; an incorrect pick loses you two thirds of one mark.
A score of 40 percent or more is required separately in both papers, and the subject paper counts double. Below are the part wise marks, the topic lists, a Hindi recap and a revision order shaped by those marks.

How the School Lecturer exam is built
The written exam is the sole competitive round, held as two separately timed papers. Paper I is common to all subjects. Paper II is set for the subject you applied in, from a list of around two dozen teaching subjects such as Hindi, English, Sanskrit, History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Commerce and others, along with coach posts for some sports. Only the subjects named in the advertisement are open in a given round.
Your rank comes from adding both scores, though falling under 40 percent in either paper ends your chances. Shortlisted candidates then appear for document verification. Read about the broader commission schemes on the RPSC syllabus page, and compare this exam with the senior teacher recruitment on the RPSC 2nd grade syllabus page.
Answer sheets used by RPSC lately include an extra option to mark a question as not attempted, and leaving many questions wholly unmarked can be penalised. Check your admit card for the rule that applies to your exam.
RPSC 1st grade syllabus: Paper I marks by part
| Part | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Rajasthan and Indian history with the freedom struggle | 15 | 30 |
| General science, Indian polity and geography of Rajasthan | 15 | 30 |
| Current affairs | 10 | 20 |
| Educational management, state education system, RTE | 15 | 30 |
| Mental ability, statistics and mathematics (secondary level), Hindi and English | 20 | 40 |
| Total | 75 | 150 |
The mental ability and language block is the largest single part at 40 marks. Unlike history or current affairs, it can be practised to near full accuracy, which makes it the first part to secure.
Paper II: your subject at three levels
| Part | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Class 11 and 12 level content | 55 | 110 |
| Degree level content | 55 | 110 |
| Master's level content | 10 | 20 |
| Educational psychology, pedagogy, teaching learning material and ICT | 30 | 60 |
| Total | 150 | 300 |
Senior secondary and graduation content together give 220 of the 300 marks. Postgraduate depth is worth only 20 marks, so do not let MA or M.Sc. notes crowd out Class 11 and 12 textbooks. The 60 mark teaching block is shared by all subjects and rewards a clear grasp of psychology and classroom methods.

Meenakshi teaches as a guest lecturer in Jodhpur and holds an MA in Geography with B.Ed. She already knows her degree topics, so she starts with senior secondary textbooks to sharpen the 110 mark school block. Two evenings a week go to Paper I reasoning, where she found she was losing marks to negative marking in her first mock.
Many candidates prepare for this exam alongside the REET Mains level 2 syllabus. Other school teacher recruitments across states are collected under teaching exams.

How is the 1st grade exam different from 2nd grade?
The 1st grade exam is for lecturers of classes 11 and 12 and asks for a master's degree, while 2nd grade is for senior teachers of classes 9 and 10 with a graduate degree. Paper marks and topic levels also differ.
