RPF Constable Cut Off: Previous Year Marks by Category

RailwayScaled to 100Men and women apartUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The RPF constable cut off is the closing mark, on a normalised 100 point scale, at which each category's list closed, first for the physical test and then for the final panel. In the last completed cycle (CEN RPF 02/2024), unreserved men needed about 76.8 to reach the PET and about 77.7 to make the final list.

Below you will find both sets of numbers for every category and for men and women separately, the minimum pass marks that sit underneath them, and the reasons the figures shift between drives.

What the RPF constable cut off really measures

The constable CBT runs across dozens of sittings, so a raw score from one sitting cannot be compared directly with another. The boards first normalise every score and then scale it to 100. Each cut off you read below is on that normalised scale, not on your raw marks out of 120.

Two different cut offs are published in one cycle:

  1. CBT cut off for PET and PMT: the last normalised score in each category among those called for the physical round. Roughly ten times the posts were called in the last cycle.
  2. Final cut off: the last normalised score among candidates actually empanelled after the physical test, measurements and document checks.

The final figure is usually a little higher, because many people who were called either fail the run and jumps or do not turn up, and the panel is then filled strictly by CBT merit among those who remain.

The shortlist was published in June 2025 and named 42,143 candidates for the physical round against about 4,208 posts. A separate community wise list for ex-servicemen came out later, in August 2025. Two decimals are shown here, while the board's own PDF prints longer values.

About 4,205 candidates were empanelled. Notice how the gap between men and women nearly closed at the final stage, and how EWS and ST women ended on exactly the men's figure. When a reserved share for women cannot be filled, seats move back and the closing score is shared. Do not treat that as a rule for the next cycle.

Sunil, an OBC man, ended with 75.0 on the normalised scale. That cleared the OBC line of 74.06 for the PET call, and he passed the run and jumps. Yet the OBC final line for men closed at 75.62, so he missed the panel by a fraction. One or two more correct answers in the CBT would have changed his result.

Qualifying marks versus the rank that gets you selected

The notice sets a floor: UR and EWS need 35 percent of the CBT, SC and ST need 30 percent, and PwBD rules, where they apply, can lower this slightly. That floor only keeps you on the merit list. What matters is your category's closing mark, which last time sat at more than double the floor for every group.

CategoryMinimum in noticePET call line
UR35%76.82
EWS35%71.92
SC30%70.19
ST30%65.67

The physical test and measurements are pass or fail. They do not add marks, so once you clear them your CBT score alone decides whether you make the final panel.

Why the next RPF constable previous year cut off may not repeat

  • Number of posts: the 02/2024 notice had about 4,208 posts. A larger notice usually lowers the line; a smaller one raises it.
  • Applicants: lakhs sat the last CBT. More takers for a 10th level railway police post push scores up.
  • Paper level and normalisation: when most sittings feel hard, raw marks fall, and the scaling step then balances each shift against the rest.
  • Share for women and ex-servicemen: separate quotas produce separate lines, which is why women's and ExSM figures differ so much.
  • PET failures: the more candidates drop out at the run and jumps, the further down the CBT list the board goes for the final panel.
Older cycles, such as the 2018 drive, published cut offs on a different basis and in group wise lists, so do not compare those raw numbers with the scaled figures above. Always confirm the method in the latest notice.

Where the boards publish these lists

  1. Open the website of any Railway Recruitment Board or the RPF portal at rpf.indianrailways.gov.in.
  2. Find the RPF block for your CEN number, then the CBT result notice.
  3. Download the cut off PDF. It is printed by category, with men and women in separate rows.
  4. Sign in to the scorecard link using registration number and birth date; it shows your scaled marks, which you can set against the closing figure for your group.

The final panel and its cut off follow the physical round as a separate notice, along with zone allotment for those selected.

Turning these numbers into a target score

Your CBT has 120 questions and 90 minutes, and every incorrect pick loses one third. In the last cycle, the general line sat close to 77 on the scaled marks, so aim for a safety margin rather than the line itself. Check the full subject break up on the RPF constable syllabus page, and browse other recruitments on the railway exams hub.

  • General awareness carries 50 marks and is where toppers pull ahead. Daily current affairs plus static GK from school books matter more than anything else.
  • Arithmetic and reasoning (35 marks each) reward speed. Timed mixed sets of 30 questions every day build that speed.
  • Avoid wild guesses. A negative third adds up fast when the lines are this close.
Pooja is preparing alongside her final year of school and has five months. She takes one full mock every Sunday, counts how many errors came from blind guessing, and cuts that number before chasing new topics. Her mock score climbed by eight marks without new study, simply from fewer negatives.

Frequently asked questions

Where did the RPF constable cut off close for UR candidates last time?

For CEN RPF 02/2024, unreserved men needed 76.82 and unreserved women 73.75 (normalised, out of 100) to be called for the PET. The final panel closed at 77.71 for men and 77.33 for women.

Are these lines raw marks out of 120?

No. With so many sittings, every score is normalised and then scaled to 100. All lines here use that scale, so compare them with the normalised score on your scorecard, not your raw count.

How much must I score just to stay eligible in the RPF constable CBT?

Under the last notice, unreserved and EWS candidates needed 35 percent, while the SC and ST floor was 30 percent. Reaching this keeps you eligible, but the category cut off decides whether you are called for the physical test.

Why are cut offs for women lower at the PET stage?

A share of posts is set aside for women and fewer women apply, so their merit list closes at a lower score. At the final stage the gap shrank in the last cycle because unfilled seats were adjusted.

Will my run and jump timings add to my merit?

No. Both the PET and the PMT are simply cleared or failed. Among those who clear them and pass document checks, the final panel is drawn up by CBT merit.

Is the RPF SI cut off similar?

The SI test uses the same three subjects, but its graduate level competition and far fewer posts give different numbers. See the RPF SI cut off page for that recruitment's figures.
