The MP forest guard syllabus covers five school level subjects, all inside a single written test: general knowledge with a strong Madhya Pradesh slant, the two languages Hindi and English, school mathematics and general science. The Employee Selection Board sets 100 objective questions carrying a mark each, and the clock gives you 2 hours.
MPESB usually advertises Van Rakshak posts in a combined recruitment with Kshetra Rakshak and Jail Prahari, but the forest guard track has its own physical stage run by the Forest Department. This page explains both parts so you can plan books and fitness together.

Selection stages for MP Van Rakshak
- Written exam: conducted by MPESB, recently as a computer based test at centres across the state.
- Physical measurement: the Forest Department measures height of all candidates, plus chest of male candidates.
- Walking test: a long distance walk within a fixed time. It only qualifies or disqualifies you.
- Papers and health check: certificates are verified and a medical board examines you before appointment.
The written score decides your merit position, so the paper is where you win or lose the job. The walk only filters out those who cannot finish it, but it eliminates many otherwise good candidates who never trained for it.

Every right response is worth a single mark. Most reports on the newest rule book say a wrong option simply scores zero, yet one summary mentions a quarter mark penalty, so check the marking rule printed in the rule book. These subject figures come from reports of the rule book; MPESB has changed weightage between cycles before.

Height, chest and the walking test
| Standard | Men applying | Women applying |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest allowed height | 163 cm (152 cm for SC and ST) | 150 cm (145 cm for SC and ST) |
| Chest | 79 cm, plus a 5 cm expansion | Not measured |
| Walk within 4 hours | 25 km | 14 km |
Candidates from notified Naxal affected areas have been given a chest relaxation in recent notices. The walk does not add marks, but you must finish it inside the time limit. Start training early: four hours is a steady pace of a little over 6 km an hour for men, which feels easy for the first hour and hard by the third.
Who can apply
Recent notices ask for a high school (class 10) pass under the 10+2 system from the MP board or an equivalent recognised board, though one report on the latest advertisement mentions class 12, so check the qualification line in your notice. Open competition applicants must be between 18 and 33. Madhya Pradesh's own SC, ST and OBC applicants, unreserved women, government employees and some other groups get relaxation up to 38 years. Domicile rules decide who can claim reserved seats.
Splitting ten weeks across five equal subjects
With every subject reported at equal weight, the trick is to avoid a weak area. Hindi and maths are where class 10 students usually gain fastest, while MP general knowledge needs the most reading.
- Weeks 1 to 3: MP geography, districts, parks and tribes in the morning; arithmetic chapters in the evening.
- Weeks 4 to 6: the two language papers on alternate days, with science chapters from the class 9 and 10 books after dinner.
- Weeks 7 to 8: the past twelve months of news, polity and history revision.
- Weeks 9 to 10: full 100 question tests in 2 hours, at least three per week.
