Haryana Police Syllabus for HSSC Constable Posts

Defence and police12th pass and CET20% Haryana GKUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The Haryana police syllabus for a constable job is set by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) and centres on one objective knowledge test worth 97 marks, covering general studies, science, current affairs, reasoning, numerical ability, agriculture and animal husbandry, with at least a fifth of the questions on Haryana and at least a tenth on basic computer use. Before you reach that paper, you need a valid CET Group C score and must clear a height and chest check and a timed race.

This guide walks through every stage in sequence, the knowledge test laid out subject by subject, the physical standards reported for the latest recruitment, and a plan that gives Haryana GK the attention its weight demands. If you are also looking at clerical and support jobs in the state, the HSSC group D syllabus is a close cousin.

How the Haryana police syllabus fits the selection stages

Haryana police recruitment runs through HSSC, and the order of stages matters because two of them can end your attempt before you write a single answer. In the latest constable recruitment the sequence was:

  1. CET Group C shortlisting. Only candidates holding a valid Haryana Common Eligibility Test (Group C) score could apply.
  2. Physical Measurement Test (PMT). Height for everyone and chest for men. It is qualifying only.
  3. Physical Screening Test (PST). A timed race, also qualifying.
  4. Knowledge test. Reports on the notice say HSSC calls about ten times the posts in each category from those who pass the physical stages.
  5. Document check and the medical, after which HSSC publishes the selected names.

The CET score gets you through the door, but the final merit is built on the knowledge test, plus NCC marks if you hold the certificates. That is why this page treats the knowledge test as the real syllabus.

On marking, reports agree that a wrong answer carries no penalty. HSSC papers do, however, use a fifth option meaning "not attempted", and leaving every bubble empty has led to a deduction in past notices. Coverage of the time limit has not been consistent, so rely on the duration printed on your admit card.

The split above comes from the latest advertisement as reported. HSSC can change the share of Haryana or computer questions in a new notice, so rely on the scheme inside whichever advertisement you actually apply against.

Haryana police ka syllabus: general studies, science and current affairs

HSSC describes this part broadly, so the topics below follow what the stated areas normally cover at class 12 level.

General studies

  • Indian history: ancient, medieval, the freedom movement
  • Indian geography: rivers, soils, climate, crops, minerals
  • Indian polity: the Constitution, Parliament, fundamental rights and duties, local bodies
  • Economy basics: budget terms, banking, government schemes

General science

  • Physics of daily life: motion, light, sound, electricity
  • Chemistry: acids, bases, metals, common compounds
  • Biology: human body, nutrition, diseases and vaccines

Current affairs

  • National and state news, sports, awards, appointments
  • Schemes and events from the months before the paper

Agriculture and animal husbandry

  • Major crops of Haryana and India, sowing seasons, irrigation
  • Dairy breeds such as the Murrah buffalo and the Hariana cow, livestock care

Reasoning, numerical ability and computer topics

General reasoning and mental ability

  • Word and number analogies, the odd pair out, missing terms in a series
  • Coding patterns, family trees and direction finding
  • Order and ranking, seating puzzles, calendar and clock
  • Statement and conclusion, Venn diagrams, mirror and water images

Numerical ability

  • Number system, simplification, LCM and HCF
  • Percentages, ratios and averages
  • Buying and selling sums, discounts
  • Interest questions, pipes and cisterns, journeys by train or boat
  • Mensuration of basic shapes, data reading from tables

Basic computer knowledge (at least 10%)

  • Hardware parts, keyboard, mouse, printer and storage types
  • Windows basics, saving and organising files
  • Word processing, spreadsheets and presentations
  • Internet, email, cyber safety and common shortcut keys

Haryana GK: the part worth one fifth of the paper

With at least 20 questions on the state, Haryana GK is the single block that separates prepared candidates from the rest. Cover these areas:

  • History: Harappan sites such as Rakhigarhi, the battles of Panipat, the 1857 revolt in the region, formation of the state in 1966
  • Geography: districts and divisions, rivers such as the Yamuna and Ghaggar, canals, climate and soils
  • Polity and administration: the Governor, Chief Minister, Vidhan Sabha, panchayati raj in the state
  • Economy: agriculture, industrial towns, state schemes
  • Culture: folk dances, festivals, fairs, music, dress and dialects
  • Sports and famous people from Haryana, current state news
Sonu from Hisar cleared the race comfortably but scored poorly on his last mock because he skipped Haryana GK. He now reads one district a day, noting its rivers, fairs and famous sites, and revises the full list every Sunday. Within a month his state section went from 9 correct to 16.

Physical standards and the race

These standards were reported for the latest constable recruitment. Reserved figures apply to the categories named in the notice.

PMT and PST for Haryana police constable
TestMenWomen
Height170 cm (168 cm reserved)158 cm (156 cm reserved)
Chest83 cm with 4 cm expansion (81 cm reserved)Not applicable
Race2.5 km, within 12 minutes1 km, within 6 minutes

For ex-servicemen, reports give a shorter 1 km run with a 5 minute limit. Since both tests come before the paper, start running from your first week of study, not after the CET result.

Ten weeks to the HSSC knowledge test

  1. Weeks 1 to 3: Haryana GK and Indian polity and history every morning. Run three days a week, building towards 2.5 km.
  2. Weeks 4 to 5: Numerical ability and reasoning, 30 questions a day. Add the computer topics in small daily portions.
  3. Weeks 6 to 7: General science, agriculture and animal husbandry, plus your own month by month news notes.
  4. Weeks 8 to 10: Complete 100 item practice papers marked on a printed OMR sheet, timed, then go back over each mistake and note why you slipped. Keep the race practice going until the PST is over.

Since a wrong guess costs nothing here, train yourself to attempt every question and to mark the fifth bubble only when the rules call for it.

For study material, the class 9 and 10 NCERT titles on the past, maps, civics and science are plenty for the general block. For Haryana, use the state government's own reference publications and keep your own short notes.

Where to read the official scheme

The advertisement and public notices for constable posts appear on the HSSC website. Read the section on the scheme of the knowledge test, the physical standards table and the category list for relaxed height. Keep a printed copy of the scheme with your notes. For similar papers in neighbouring states, compare the Punjab police constable syllabus and the Rajasthan police syllabus, or see all forces together under defence and police exams.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the CET to apply for Haryana police constable?

Yes. In the latest recruitment only candidates with a valid HSSC CET Group C score could apply. The CET shortlists you, while the final merit comes from the knowledge test and any NCC marks.

How many marks is the Haryana police written exam?

The knowledge test carried 97 marks in the latest notice, with 100 objective questions. Up to 3 further marks were available for NCC certificates, taking the merit total to 100.

Does HSSC deduct anything for a wrong option in this test?

Reports on the latest notice say wrong answers are not penalised. Any skipped item should get the fifth bubble darkened, since an entirely blank row has attracted a deduction in earlier HSSC papers, so follow the OMR instructions closely.

How much Haryana GK comes in the paper?

At least 20% of the questions, which means 20 or more out of 100. Computer basics take at least another 10%.

What age range applies to Haryana police constables?

For general candidates the latest notice fixed an 18 to 25 year window, and reports say a one time relaxation of three years was later allowed with a reopened application window. Category relaxations also apply, so confirm your own limit in the notice.

What qualification is needed?

A 10+2 pass from any recognised board, with Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject at matric level, plus the CET Group C score. Higher degrees did not earn extra marks in the latest scheme.
