EDUDEL syllabus: the Delhi DoE month wise plan for every class

State examsClasses 1 to 12Delhi governmentUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The EDUDEL syllabus is the class wise, month by month distribution of the school syllabus that the Directorate of Education (DoE), Government of NCT of Delhi, publishes on its website edudel.nic.in for government schools, from class 1 to class 12. It does not create a new curriculum. It takes what students already study and fixes which chapters should be taught in which month, so that every DoE school moves at roughly the same pace.

If you are a student or parent in a Delhi government school, this file tells you what will be taught before each exam. If you are a teacher, it is the base for your lesson plans. This page explains how it is organised, how it links to the CBSE curriculum, and how to make the best use of it.

What the EDUDEL syllabus is meant to do

The DoE page for this material is titled Class Wise Distribution of Syllabus. In its own words, the split is there for three reasons:

  • Uniform teaching: students in one district cover the same chapters at about the same time as students in another.
  • Fair inspection: officers visiting a school can check progress against a fixed plan.
  • Less planning load: teachers start from a ready sequence instead of building one from scratch.

For a student, the practical benefit is that you always know which chapters are due this month and which will fall in the first or second term exam. If you change schools within the DoE system, the plan also makes it easier to catch up.

How the files are arranged by class

EDUDEL syllabus by stage
ClassesHow it is splitBase
1 to 5Term wise, with learning outcomes and suggested activitiesRecommended syllabus issued by the DoE primary branch
6 to 8Month wise, subject by subjectNCERT based textbooks; confirm with your school
9 and 10Month wise, subject by subjectCBSE secondary curriculum
11 and 12Month wise, stream subjects includedCBSE senior secondary curriculum

For the primary classes, a recent DoE circular asked school heads to download the recommended syllabus and hand it to every assistant teacher, and stated that it is divided term wise. For the higher classes, separate files are issued for subjects such as English, Hindi, mathematics, science, social science, Sanskrit, Punjabi and Urdu, and in class 11 and 12 for accountancy, physics, political science and the other stream papers.

Steps to find the EDUDEL syllabus for your class

  1. Open the DoE website, edudel.nic.in.
  2. Go to the Academics and Examination menu and choose Academic Syllabus. The syllabus page can also be opened directly at the link in the facts box above.
  3. Pick your class from the list. Each class opens as a separate file.
  4. Inside the file, look for your subject, then read the months in order.
  5. Look at the session year on the file. Older term wise files from past sessions are still visible on the page, so make sure you have the current one.

The same material is also mirrored on the DoE student portal. If a link does not open, your school's subject teacher or the head of school will have the copy that came by circular.

Using the month wise plan as a student

The split works best when you treat each month as a short goal. At the start of the month, list the chapters due, mark the ones that will appear in the next term exam, and try to finish reading each chapter before it is taught in class.

Sana is in class 9 at a Sarvodaya Vidyalaya. Her science teacher shares the month wise split in April. Sana copies the chapters due in July and August onto one page, reads each NCERT chapter a week ahead, and solves the in text questions on Sundays. When the first term exam portion is announced, she has already been through it once.

In class 10 and class 12, use the last months in the plan for full sample papers from CBSE. For working through old board papers in that window, see the advice in class 10 past board papers.

Using it as a teacher or tutor

Teachers in DoE schools are expected to be familiar with the split and to plan lessons around it. A few habits help:

  • Plan in weeks, not months. Divide each month's chapters into weekly blocks and leave one week at the end of each term for revision.
  • Keep a note of chapters that took longer than planned, so you can tell the head of school early rather than rushing later.
  • For classes 9 and 11, where students face school exams rather than boards, use the term portions in the plan to set your own unit tests.

Many aspirants preparing to teach in these schools also look at the plan, since recruitment of DoE teachers is handled by DSSSB, the Delhi board that hires for city government posts. The subject knowledge tested there is set out on our DSSSB TGT syllabus page.

Common questions about the EDUDEL syllabus file

Students often ask whether the EDUDEL plan is a separate board syllabus. It is not; Delhi government schools are not a separate board, and the class 10 and class 12 papers you write are CBSE papers. Private schools in Delhi affiliated to CBSE follow the same board curriculum but are not bound by the DoE monthly split, so their pace may differ.

Another common confusion is between this file and the syllabus for recruitment exams. Searches for syllabus edudel sometimes mean the school plan and sometimes the DSSSB teacher exams; this page covers the school plan, and the teacher exams are explained in the DSSSB syllabus guide. Boards across India are compared on our school boards hub.

Frequently asked questions

What is the EDUDEL syllabus?

It is the month wise and class wise distribution of the school syllabus published by the Directorate of Education, Delhi, for its government schools. It sets the order and pace of teaching, not new content.

Is the EDUDEL syllabus different from the CBSE syllabus?

For classes 9 to 12 the content comes from the CBSE curriculum. The DoE file only spreads those chapters across the months of the session and marks the portions for school exams.

Which classes does the EDUDEL syllabus cover?

Classes 1 to 12. The primary classes get a recommended syllabus split by term, while the higher classes get subject files split month by month.

Where do I download the EDUDEL syllabus?

From edudel.nic.in, under Academics and Examination and then Academic Syllabus. Choose your class, and check that the file belongs to the current session.

Do private schools in Delhi follow the EDUDEL monthly split?

No. The split is issued for schools under the Directorate of Education. Private CBSE schools follow the board curriculum but set their own teaching calendar.

What should I do if my teacher is behind the monthly plan?

Read ahead from the NCERT chapter for that month and note your doubts. Ask your teacher which chapters are in the next term exam, because the exam portion matters more than the exact month.
