The DSSSB TGT syllabus has two halves: Section A, a general test of 100 questions that every candidate writes, and Section B, 100 questions drawn from the school subject you hope to handle, teaching methods included. Both halves are part of a single online paper worth 200 marks, written in 2 hours.
The Board recruits trained graduate teachers for Delhi government schools in Mathematics, English, Social Science, Natural Science, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu and Punjabi, with separate male and female posts. This page sets out the pattern from the latest advertisement, the topics for each part, and a week by week plan you can adapt.

How the TGT selection works
Trained graduate teacher hiring skips the usual multi stage route. DSSSB places TGT posts under its one tier technical or teaching scheme, so a single online test decides your rank, after which the Board checks certificates of shortlisted people. Every item is shown bilingually, apart from the Hindi and English parts, which naturally use their own language.
Merit is drawn from your combined score in Section A and Section B. Under the current advertisement the qualifying floor is checked against Section B alone, so your subject score has to clear the bar first, and then every mark in Section A pushes you up the list. For the Board's other posts and tiers, read the DSSSB syllabus overview.
DSSSB TGT exam pattern table
| Section | Part | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Awareness of general topics | 20 | 20 |
| Reasoning and general intelligence | 20 | 20 | |
| Arithmetic and numbers | 20 | 20 | |
| Hindi language and passage reading | 20 | 20 | |
| English language and comprehension | 20 | 20 | |
| B | Subject concerned, including teaching methodology (B.Ed.) | 100 | 100 |
| Total | 200 | 200 | |
Right answers add 1. Every incorrect choice takes away 0.25, while leaving an item blank leaves your score untouched. There is no descriptive part in the TGT paper.
Section B: what the subject paper covers
The advertisement does not print a chapter list for Section B. It only says the section tests the subject concerned, including questions on teaching methodology from the B.Ed. course. In practice this means the content of your graduation subject, framed at the level you would teach in classes 6 to 10, plus pedagogy.
- Mathematics: algebra, geometry, trigonometry, mensuration, statistics and probability, calculus basics and number theory.
- Social Science: Indian and world history, physical and human geography, Indian polity, economics and the social science content of NCERT classes 6 to 10.
- Natural Science: physics, chemistry and biology concepts from the school science books, extended to undergraduate depth.
- Sanskrit, Urdu and Punjabi: grammar, literature and the history of that language's writing.
For all subjects, the teaching part draws on learning theories, lesson planning, evaluation, inclusive classrooms and methods of teaching your subject.
DSSSB TGT English syllabus
Since the Board gives no separate list, aspirants for the English post build their plan around three areas that past papers have touched:
- Grammar and usage: tenses, voice, narration, determiners, prepositions, clauses, subject verb agreement, transformation of sentences and error correction.
- Literature: major British, American and Indian writing in English, literary periods and movements, famous authors and their works, poetic devices and literary terms.
- Teaching English: methods such as the direct, structural and communicative approaches, the four language skills, remedial teaching and assessment of language learning.
Remember that the general English part of Section A carries another 20 marks, so your grammar work pays twice.
DSSSB TGT Hindi syllabus
Candidates for the Hindi post usually cover the following, again because the official notice only says the subject concerned:
- Grammar: वर्ण, संधि, समास, कारक, काल, वाच्य, अलंकार, रस, छंद and शब्द शुद्धि.
- History of Hindi literature: आदिकाल, भक्तिकाल, रीतिकाल and आधुनिक काल, with key poets, writers and their works.
- Prose and poetry forms: कहानी, उपन्यास, नाटक, निबंध and the major movements of modern Hindi poetry.
- Teaching Hindi: methods of teaching language, the four language skills, and evaluation.
Your degree, or master's degree, in Hindi with the minimum marks the advertisement asks for is what makes you eligible, so the university syllabus you studied is the best map for this section.
Splitting a 12 week plan by marks
Because Section B alone decides whether you qualify, give it roughly 60 percent of your hours, but never let Section A slide, since tied candidates are separated by it.
- Weeks 1 to 4: your subject's core content from graduation notes and NCERT books of classes 6 to 10; and a pedagogy chapter on alternate days.
- Weeks 5 to 8: deeper subject topics, literature or theory, plus daily arithmetic and reasoning sets of 20 questions in 20 minutes.
- Weeks 9 and 10: Hindi and English grammar drills and Delhi related general awareness.
- Weeks 11 and 12: complete timed mocks of the whole paper with the quarter mark penalty applied.
Eligibility snapshot for TGT posts
In the latest advertisement, the age limit is not more than 30 years on the closing date, with the usual relaxation for instance five extra years for SC and ST applicants, three for OBC and a longer allowance for PwBD. You need a bachelor's degree, a master's degree or an integrated four year B.A. B.Ed. style course in the subject concerned carrying the minimum percentage that the post demands, a B.Ed., and a pass in Paper II of the CTET. The CTET paper you cleared overlaps a lot with the pedagogy questions here, so revisit the CTET paper 2 syllabus while you study.
Books and the DSSSB TGT syllabus in Hindi
Start with NCERT textbooks of classes 6 to 10 for your subject, then your graduation texts and B.Ed. notes for methodology. For Section A, a standard school level arithmetic book, a grammar book in each language and a monthly current affairs digest are enough.

Frequently asked questions
How long is the DSSSB TGT paper and how many items does it carry?
You face 200 one mark MCQs in 2 hours. Half are general items in Section A, and the other half test your subject and its teaching methods in Section B.
Will a guess hurt my DSSSB TGT score?
Yes. A quarter mark is deducted for every wrong answer. Blank items cost nothing, so answer a doubtful item only once you have eliminated two choices.
Does Section A have minimum qualifying marks?
No. The current advertisement checks the qualifying floor on Section B. Section A still counts in the final merit, so a weak Section A can drop your rank even if you qualify.
Is CTET compulsory for DSSSB TGT?
Yes. The latest advertisement lists a pass in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test conducted by CBSE as an essential qualification, along with a B.Ed. Check the notification for the paper level required.
What upper age does DSSSB allow for TGT posts?
The latest TGT advertisement fixes the upper limit at 30 years as on the last date to apply, with extra years allowed for reserved groups, PwBD candidates and government servants. The limit can differ between advertisements, so confirm it in the one you apply under.
Does DSSSB publish a detailed TGT syllabus?
Each TGT advertisement on dsssb.delhi.gov.in contains the scheme of examination. It describes Section B as the subject concerned with teaching methodology rather than a detailed chapter list.
