Delhi police constable physical eligibility means meeting the race, jump, height and chest standards of the PE&MT: for men up to 30 years, a 1600 metre run in 6 minutes, a 14 feet long jump and a 3 feet 9 inch high jump, with a minimum height of 170 cm and chest of 81 cm with 4 cm expansion. Before that, you must be 18 to 25 years old and have passed class 12.
Everything here is drawn from the latest SSC notice for this Delhi Police recruitment. Check each one against your own documents before you apply, because a single missing condition, such as a driving licence for men, can end your candidature after you have cleared the test.

Delhi police eligibility at a glance
There are four sets of conditions, and you must meet all of them:
- Age: 18 to 25 years, measured as on the cut-off day SSC names (1 July of the recruitment year in the latest one).
- Education: a passed senior secondary (10+2) exam from a board recognised in India, held by the closing date.
- Physical: the PE&MT standards for race, jumps, height and chest.
- Medical: eyesight and fitness standards checked after the PE&MT.
Indian citizenship is required. Male candidates must also hold a valid driving licence for a light motor vehicle, either motorcycle or car, on the date of the PE&MT; a learner's licence is not accepted.
Delhi police constable physical eligibility: the endurance test
| Age | 1600 m race | Long jump | High jump |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 30 years | 6 minutes | 14 feet | 3 feet 9 inches |
| Above 30 to 40 years | 7 minutes | 13 feet | 3 feet 6 inches |
| Above 40 years | 8 minutes | 12 feet | 3 feet 3 inches |
| Age | 1600 m race | Long jump | High jump |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 30 years | 8 minutes | 10 feet | 3 feet |
| Above 30 to 40 years | 9 minutes | 9 feet | 2 feet 9 inches |
| Above 40 years | 10 minutes | 8 feet | 2 feet 6 inches |
The higher age bands matter only for candidates who get an upper age relaxation, such as departmental candidates. You get three chances in each jump, and there is no appeal against failing the race or the jumps.
Height and chest
| Measure | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum height | 170 cm | 157 cm |
| Chest | 81 cm with at least 4 cm expansion | Not measured |
Men from hill areas, Scheduled Tribe candidates and sons of serving, retired or deceased Delhi Police personnel get a 5 cm relaxation in height, with chest relaxations as listed in the notice. Women from hill areas, ST women and daughters of Delhi Police personnel also get height relaxations, set out separately for each group.
How old you can be, and who gets extra years
For most applicants the window runs from 18 up to 25. Your date of birth has to fall inside the range printed in the notice for your cycle. Upper age relaxations include:
| Group | Relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC and ST | 5 years |
| OBC | 3 years |
| Sportspersons (as defined in the notice) | 5 years, 10 years for SC and ST |
| Ex-servicemen | 3 years after deducting military service (6 for OBC, 8 for SC and ST) |
| Widows, divorced women and judicially separated women not remarried | 5 years |
| Wards of Delhi Police personnel | Upper limit raised to 29 years |
| Departmental candidates of Delhi Police | Upper limit 40 (UR, EWS), 43 (OBC), 45 (SC, ST) |
OBC relaxation is generally for candidates in the central OBC list, non creamy layer. Check the category rules of the current notice if you belong to a state list only.
Educational qualification
You need a pass in class 12 (10+2, senior secondary) from a recognised board by the closing date stated in the notice. Any stream counts. The notice relaxes this to class 11 pass for a few groups, such as wards of Delhi Police personnel and certain departmental staff like drivers and bandsmen.
Medical standards and tattoos
- Candidates must be in good physical and mental health, free from defects that may affect police duties.
- Distant vision must meet the standard in the notice without glasses, and colour blindness is a disqualification.
- Knock knees, flat feet and similar defects are checked during the medical.
- Tattoos are allowed only within the limits in the notice, broadly on the inner forearm or back of the hand and small in size; other tattoos lead to rejection.
Papers to collect before the PE&MT
- Matriculation (class 10) certificate, which SSC uses as proof of birth date.
- Class 12 marksheet and certificate.
- Caste, EWS or other category certificate in the format given in the notice.
- Valid LMV driving licence (men).
- Certificates for hill area, ex-servicemen, sports or ward status, if claimed.
- Photo ID and recent photographs.
Once you are clear on eligibility, plan the written test with the Delhi Police syllabus, check how high recent selection lines went, then work through earlier Constable papers. You can also compare rules for other exams with the eligibility checker.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Delhi Police Constable age limit?
18 to 25 years for general candidates as on the date SSC fixes for counting age. OBC candidates get 3 extra years and SC and ST candidates get 5, with further relaxation for ex-servicemen, sportspersons, wards and departmental candidates.
What is the minimum height for Delhi Police Constable?
Men need 170 cm and women need 157 cm. Candidates from hill areas, ST candidates and children of Delhi Police personnel get a relaxation as given in the notice.
Is a driving licence compulsory?
For male candidates, yes. A valid LMV licence for a motorcycle or car is needed on the date of the PE&MT, and a learner's licence does not count.
Can I apply after class 12 with a supplementary result pending?
Only if you have passed class 12 by the qualification date in the notice. A result declared after that date does not make you eligible for that cycle.
How much time is allowed for the race for women?
Women up to 30 years must finish 1600 metres in 8 minutes. The limit is 9 minutes for 30 to 40 years and 10 minutes above 40.
Can women apply for Delhi Police Constable?
Yes. The recruitment is for male and female constables, and the notice keeps a separate vacancy count and merit list for women.
