CUET UG Previous Year Question Paper: How to Use It

EntranceSince 202250 per testUpdated 26 Oct 2026

Every CUET UG previous year question paper teaches something the syllabus cannot: how NTA turns class 12 chapters into 60 minute tests where every wrong click costs a mark. CUET UG has run since 2022, so there are now several cycles of language, domain and General Aptitude Test papers to learn from.

Here you will find what those papers contain, how the pattern has shifted across cycles, a step by step practice method, five sample items of our own in a matching format, and the official places to get real questions. For the subject list and rules, read the CUET UG syllabus first.

Pattern recap before you practise

Going by the most recent bulletin we could confirm, each test, whether a language, a domain subject or the General Aptitude Test, had 50 questions, all compulsory, in 60 minutes. Right answers add 5 marks and errors subtract 1.

Sets from the 2022 to 2024 cycles followed slightly different rules on time and on how many questions you had to attempt, with some choice inside a test. When you practise from them, keep the content but apply the current timing and attempt all questions, so your speed matches the real exam.

What a CUET UG previous year question paper shows

  • Language tests lean on reading. Most questions in the CUET UG English previous year question paper sets come from passages, factual, literary or narrative, with vocabulary and sentence questions around them.
  • Domain papers stay inside NCERT. Questions in physics, accountancy, history and other subjects match class 12 NCERT chapters closely, including diagrams, tables and examples from the book.
  • Statement and match type items are common. Many questions list two or four statements or ask you to match columns, so partial knowledge is easily trapped.
  • GAT mixes four areas: general knowledge and current events, numerical ability, logical reasoning and general mental ability.
  • Time is the real challenge. Students who know the content still lose marks by spending too long on calculation items.

A four step practice method

  1. Chapter check: after revising an NCERT chapter, solve every past question from that chapter across cycles.
  2. Timed test: once a week per subject, take a full 50 question set in 60 minutes on a screen, not on paper, because CUET is taken on a computer.
  3. Accuracy log: count right, wrong and skipped answers. If wrong answers exceed one in five attempts, slow down and skip more.
  4. Final month: two full mock days a week where you sit all your chosen subjects back to back, as on exam day.
Tanya took English, Political Science, History, Sociology and GAT. Her first timed history set gave 32 right and 11 wrong, a net of 149 out of 250. She started marking a question only when she could cut two options, and within three weeks her wrong answers dropped to four and her net rose above 190.

Sample questions in the CUET style

We made up the five items below so you can try the format; none of them appeared in an NTA test.

  1. English: Pick the synonym of frugal: (a) wasteful (b) thrifty (c) angry (d) generous. Answer: (b).
  2. GAT: If MANGO is coded as NBOHP, how is APPLE coded? (a) BQQMF (b) BPQMF (c) BQQLF (d) AQQMF. Answer: (a); M becomes N, A becomes B, and the rule holds for all five letters.
  3. Economics: Which of these is a function of the central bank? (a) accepting deposits from the public (b) acting as banker to the government (c) giving crop loans directly to farmers (d) selling insurance. Answer: (b).
  4. Physics: When the distance between two point charges is doubled, the force between them becomes: (a) double (b) half (c) one fourth (d) four times. Answer: (c).
  5. Accountancy: On admission of a partner, goodwill brought in cash by the new partner is shared by old partners in their: (a) capital ratio (b) sacrificing ratio (c) new ratio (d) equal ratio. Answer: (b).

Where to get papers officially

The official source is NTA. Its CUET UG website, cuet.nta.nic.in, carries the information bulletin, syllabus files and notices. After each exam, NTA opens a window when you can log in, look again at your own questions and responses, study NTA's provisional key, and raise challenges. In some past cycles the National Testing Agency has also posted free mock tests on its main website, nta.ac.in, so check there before buying any practice set.

NTA decides how long question papers and keys stay visible. Save your own copy during the answer key window, and confirm answers in a printed collection against NTA's final key.

Frequently asked questions

Will NTA share any previous year question paper of CUET UG with me?

During the answer key window, NTA lets each candidate review the paper they sat and their recorded choices, and publishes keys and notices on its website. It does not always keep a full archive of every paper public, so save your copy when it is available.

Are old CUET papers still useful if the pattern changed?

Yes. The content still comes from class 12 NCERT, so the questions remain relevant. Just practise them with the current time limit and attempt rules.

How many past papers should I solve per subject?

Try to finish every available past paper for each chosen subject, plus several full mocks. Five to eight timed sets per subject in the final two months is a good target.

Is there a CUET UG English previous year question paper?

Yes, English is one of the language tests and has its own papers each cycle. They are passage heavy, so practise reading speed along with vocabulary.

Can I practise CUET papers in Hindi?

Yes. Most CUET tests can be taken in Hindi or English, and you choose the medium when you apply.

What is a good score in a practice paper?

That depends on your target course. For competitive courses at top colleges, aim to consistently score close to 200 or more out of 250 in each subject with very few wrong answers.
