How DU, BHU and other universities turn CUET scores into admission cut offs

Delhi University CUET Cut Off: How It Works, With BHU

EntranceDU CSASBHU merit listsUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The Delhi university CUET cut off is not a single number announced before admissions; it is the lowest merit score at which a seat in a given course, college and category was allocated in a round of DU's Common Seat Allocation System. The same idea applies at Banaras Hindu University and other universities that admit through CUET UG, each with its own merit lists and rounds.

This page explains how universities build a merit score from your CUET subjects, why the CUET UG cut off differs so much between courses and rounds, what has changed since DU moved away from class 12 marks, and where the university allocation lists can be read. We do not print unofficial numbers; the lists published by the universities are the only reliable record.

What a CUET cut off really means

CUET UG itself has no pass mark. NTA conducts the test and sends normalised scores to universities. Each university then ranks applicants for each course using the CUET subjects that course requires, fills its seats in rounds, and the score of the last student admitted in a round becomes that round's closing point. That closing point is what students call the cut off.

So the same CUET score can win a seat in one college and miss in another, simply because more high scorers chose the first one.

How the Delhi university CUET cut off is set

DU has admitted undergraduates through CUET since 2022, replacing the class 12 percentage cut off lists it used until 2021. Under CSAS UG:

  1. Each programme lists the CUET subject combination it accepts, usually a language plus specific domain subjects or the General Aptitude Test.
  2. Your merit score for that programme is calculated from your normalised CUET scores in those subjects.
  3. You list your preferred programme and college combinations on the DU portal.
  4. DU allocates seats round by round based on merit, preference, category and seats available.
  5. After you accept and the college approves, you may upgrade in later rounds if a higher preference opens up.

DU publishes allocation results and seat data during these rounds rather than old style cut off lists, so the closing score is seen by looking at who got which seat.

CUET cut off for BHU

Banaras Hindu University also admits undergraduates through CUET UG. It runs its own online process: after registration, BHU prepares course-wise merit and allotment lists by category, and seats are filled in rounds with fee payment deadlines. The CUET BHU cut off for a course is the merit position or score of the last candidate allotted a seat in that category and round. Popular programmes in arts, commerce and science at the main campus fill at higher scores than less demanded or newer programmes.

Eligibility vs merit: two different hurdles

Before merit counts, you must meet the programme's eligibility. This includes passing class 12 with any minimum marks the university fixes, and having the right subjects in class 12 or in CUET. A high CUET score cannot fix missing eligibility. Only then does your merit score compete for a seat, and that competition produces the cut off.

Meera scored very well in CUET English, Economics and Mathematics but did not take Mathematics in class 12. A DU economics programme she wanted required it, so she was not eligible for that course despite a strong score. She still got a good seat in another programme that accepted her subjects.

What will affect the next cut off

  • Difficulty of each test: harder papers compress scores, and normalisation adjusts for shift differences.
  • Number of applicants choosing a course and college.
  • Seats and new programmes added by the university.
  • Subject combinations each programme accepts, which change who can compete.
  • Category and supernumerary quotas, which have separate merit lists.

Since all of these change every year, a past closing score is a guide to how competitive a course is, not a promise.

How to check cut offs officially

For DU, log in to the CSAS UG portal linked from du.ac.in and follow the allocation results and notices of each round. For BHU, check the admission section on bhu.ac.in for merit and allotment lists. Your CUET scorecard comes from NTA. To prepare well for the test itself, start with the CUET UG syllabus and practise with CUET UG previous papers. Frequently asked questions

Does DU release a CUET cut off list?

Not in the old format. DU allocates seats through CSAS rounds, and the effective cut off is the merit score of the last student allocated a seat in each course, college and category.

How is the DU merit score calculated?

It is built from your normalised CUET scores in the subject combination the programme accepts, usually a language plus certain domain subjects or the General Aptitude Test. Check each programme's rule in the DU bulletin.

What is the CUET cut off for BHU?

BHU publishes course and category wise merit and allotment lists. The last candidate allotted a seat in each list sets that round's cut off, and it differs widely between courses.

Is there a minimum CUET score to pass?

No. CUET has no pass mark. Universities set eligibility conditions and admit by merit, so your rank among applicants is what matters.

Why did my course close lower in the second round?

Students who got better options upgrade or leave, which frees seats. The university then admits the next students on the merit list, so the closing score often falls.

Can I predict next year's Delhi university CUET cut off?

Only roughly. Paper difficulty, applicant numbers, seats and subject rules all change, so use past allocation results to judge how competitive a course is, not as a target score.
