Pre D.El.Ed Rajasthan: mental ability, Rajasthan GK, teaching aptitude, language

BSTC Syllabus and Pre D.El.Ed Exam Pattern

Teaching12th levelRajasthan D.El.EdUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The BSTC syllabus, officially the Rajasthan Pre D.El.Ed entrance syllabus, has four parts: mental ability, general awareness of Rajasthan, teaching aptitude and language ability, tested through 200 objective questions worth 600 marks in three hours. Each question carries 3 marks and recent cycles have had no negative marking, so every question you attempt can only add to your score.

Your rank in this single paper decides which D.El.Ed college and stream you get in counselling. Below you will find the bstc exam pattern, the topics inside each part, how the language section works for the general and Sanskrit streams, and a plan that fits the paper. When you want to see how high ranks have gone in past cycles, read the BSTC cut off page.

What the Pre D.El.Ed entrance is for

BSTC was the old name of the Basic School Teaching Certificate course. Today the course is the two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed), and admission to government and private D.El.Ed colleges across Rajasthan runs through one entrance test. Many people still search for it as the BSTC exam, so both names point to the same paper.

  • Stage 1: the written entrance test, one paper of 200 questions.
  • Stage 2: online counselling, where your rank, category and college choices decide your seat.

There is no interview. The diploma later makes you eligible to sit teacher eligibility tests such as REET Level 1, which is the route into primary teaching jobs in the state.

The government hands the job of running the test to a different university in different years, so the website and booklet change. The structure of the paper has barely moved over the last few rounds.

You get 3 hours for all of it, and no part has its own clock. That gives you less than a minute per question, which is enough for language and GK but tight for reasoning sets.

The English and Hindi or Sanskrit split inside the language part has been reported slightly differently by different sources. Confirm the exact split, the mode (OMR or computer) and the negative marking rule in the information booklet released for your cycle.

Mental ability topics

This part checks how you reason, not what you have memorised. Expect short sets on:

  • Analogy (word, number and figure) and classification
  • Series of numbers or letters, missing terms and completion of patterns
  • Coding and decoding
  • Blood relations and family trees
  • Direction sense, order and ranking
  • Logical statements, assumptions and simple conclusions
  • Figure based reasoning such as mirror images and counting figures

Questions are at a senior secondary level. Speed comes from practice: solve 20 timed questions a day and note which types slow you down.

General awareness of Rajasthan

Every one of these 50 questions is about the state. The booklet groups the area like this:

  • History: ancient sites, Rajput dynasties, Mughal relations, 1857 in Rajasthan, peasant and tribal movements, integration of the state.
  • Geography: physical divisions, Aravalli range, rivers and lakes, climate, soils, minerals, wildlife sanctuaries.
  • Economy: agriculture, irrigation projects, industries, energy and welfare schemes of the state.
  • Polity: Governor, Chief Minister, Legislative Assembly, Panchayati Raj in Rajasthan.
  • Art, culture and literature: folk dances, folk deities, fairs and festivals, paintings, forts, palaces and literary works.
  • Society, folk life and tourism: tribes, customs, dress and ornaments, tourist circuits.

The same Rajasthan GK base helps later in state exams like the Rajasthan CET, so time spent here pays off twice.

Teaching aptitude topics

This part looks at whether you think like a teacher. Questions are mostly situations with four possible responses, and you pick the one a good teacher would choose.

  • Teaching and learning process, qualities of a good teacher
  • Leadership, creativity and decision making in school situations
  • Communication skills with children and parents
  • Continuous and comprehensive evaluation
  • Professional attitude, social sensitivity and values
  • Classroom management and inclusive behaviour

There are no fixed facts to learn here. Read each option slowly and prefer the answer that is patient, child-centred and fair to every learner.

Language ability: English, Hindi and Sanskrit

English (common to both streams)

  • Comprehension of an unseen passage
  • Spotting errors and correction of sentences
  • Articles, prepositions, tenses, narration and connectives
  • Kinds of sentences and sentence completion
  • Word knowledge: synonyms and antonyms, a single word for a phrase, correct spelling

Hindi (General D.El.Ed)

  • Sandhi and samas, plus upsarg and pratyay
  • Paryayvachi, vilom and yugm shabd
  • Shabd and vakya shuddhi
  • Muhavare and lokoktiyan
  • Vakyansh ke liye ek shabd and vakya vichar

Sanskrit (Sanskrit D.El.Ed)

  • Varn vichar and uchcharan sthan
  • Shabd roop and dhatu roop
  • Sandhi, samas, upsarg and pratyay
  • Ling, vachan, vibhakti and karak

Choose the stream at the form stage with care, because the Sanskrit option shapes both your paper and the colleges open to you.

Where the 600 marks are easiest to win

Three of the four parts are worth 150 marks each, so no single part can carry you. Toppers usually score heavily in teaching aptitude and language, because those questions are quick, and then use Rajasthan GK to pull ahead of the crowd.

  • Teaching aptitude: high scoring once you understand the logic behind the options.
  • Language: grammar rules repeat year after year; a good Hindi or Sanskrit base gives fast marks.
  • Rajasthan GK: the widest area and the one that separates ranks.
  • Mental ability: steady practice moves you from average to strong in about two months.

Because wrong answers have not cost marks in recent cycles, never leave a question blank unless the booklet for your year says otherwise.

BSTC syllabus covered in ten weeks

  1. Weeks 1 and 2: read Rajasthan history and geography from the state school textbooks; start 20 reasoning questions a day.
  2. Weeks 3 and 4: Rajasthan art, culture, economy and polity; Hindi or Sanskrit grammar one topic a day.
  3. Weeks 5 and 6: teaching aptitude situations and English grammar; revise GK with short notes.
  4. Weeks 7 and 8: one full 200-question paper every three days, timed at 3 hours.
  5. Weeks 9 and 10: fix weak areas, revise current schemes of the state, and keep taking mocks.
Sunita is in class 12 and has her board exams first. She finishes the board papers, then uses the eight weeks before the entrance on GK and reasoning in the morning and language in the evening. Her English is already sound from school, so she spends only a short daily slot on it and puts the saved time into Rajasthan culture.

For books, Rajasthan board textbooks of classes 6 to 10 for state GK, your class 10 to 12 Hindi or Sanskrit grammar and any standard reasoning practice book are enough. Avoid collecting too many guides.

Frequently asked questions

Is BSTC and Pre D.El.Ed the same exam?

Yes. BSTC is the older name of the course. The entrance is now officially called the Pre D.El.Ed exam, and it is used for admission to the two-year D.El.Ed course in Rajasthan.

What is bstc ka syllabus in short?

Four parts: mental ability, general awareness of Rajasthan, teaching aptitude and language ability. Each of the first three has 50 questions, and the language part has 50 questions split between English and Hindi or Sanskrit.

Is a wrong option penalised in the BSTC paper?

Recent cycles carried no penalty for a wrong option, which means a blank answer simply wastes a chance. Still, read the rule printed in the information booklet for your year before the exam.

Who can apply for the Pre D.El.Ed entrance?

You need 10+2 from a recognised board with at least 50% marks in the general category and 45% for SC, ST, OBC and some other reserved groups. Current class 12 students are allowed to register, provided they satisfy every condition by counselling. The general upper age limit has been reported as 28 years, with relaxations for reserved and special groups, so check the latest booklet.

What is the difference between General and Sanskrit D.El.Ed in the paper?

The mental ability, Rajasthan GK and teaching aptitude parts are the same. In the language part, General candidates answer Hindi questions while Sanskrit stream candidates answer Sanskrit questions, and both answer the English questions.

What share of study hours suits Rajasthan GK?

Roughly a third of your study hours. It has as many marks as each other part but far more material, and it is where most rank differences arise.
