The WBP constable cut off marks in the final merit of the 2024 recruitment stood at 63.42 on the UR men's list and 47.17 on the UR women's list, on a merit score built from the written test and the interview. Women and men are ranked on separate lists, which is why the gap between the two columns is so wide.
This page sets out the full category wise final figures, the reported prelims and mains cut offs from the older two test format, and how to turn those numbers into a study target. The recruitment board's own notice is always the final word.

What the WBP constable cut off marks mean
In the current format, West Bengal Police constable selection runs through a written test, a physical measurement test (PMT), a physical efficiency test (PET) and an interview. The two physical stages are pass or fail. Merit is the sum of your 85 mark written score and your 15 mark interview score, and the closing figure for any category and gender is simply the merit total of its lowest ranked selected candidate.
There are two kinds of number to keep apart:
- Stage cut off: the score needed in the written test to be called for PMT and PET.
- Final cut off: the closing merit score after the interview, which decides who actually gets appointed.
Topics for the 85 mark paper are listed on our WBP constable syllabus page.
Final cut off, 2024 recruitment
| Category | Male | Female |
|---|---|---|
| UR | 63.42 | 47.17 |
| OBC | 61.08 | 37.92 |
| SC | 57.33 | 32.42 |
| ST | 50.33 | 38.33 |
On the EWS lists, men needed 53.33 while women needed just 19.75. The board also printed separate figures for sub categories inside each group, such as home guards and National Volunteer Force members (NVF and HG), civic and village police volunteers (CV and VPV) and meritorious sports persons. As an example, the UR civic volunteer row ended at 61.50 (men) and 38.58 (women), while the UR sports quota row ended at 62.17 and 42.00. If you applied under one of these, look for your exact row.
Reading the male and female columns
Men's figures sit within about 13 marks of each other across UR, OBC, SC and ST, from 50.33 up to 63.42. Women's figures are lower and less regular: ST women closed above SC and OBC women, and EWS women closed at only 19.75. These swings come from how many women applied in each category against the posts reserved for them, not from an easier paper.
Rupa, from the OBC category, was getting 50 of 85 in mock tests and assumed it was too low. Looking at the final list, she saw that OBC women closed at 37.92 on the full merit score. She now aims for 55 in the written test so that a moderate interview still leaves her comfortably clear.
Men face a much tighter race. An unreserved male candidate needed more than 63 of 100, which roughly means scoring well above 55 in the written test before the interview is added.
WBP constable previous year cut off in the old two paper format
Older recruitments had two written papers, a preliminary and then a final, and searches for the WBP constable mains cut off previous year refer to that second paper. These are the reported 2018 recruitment numbers, from a year in which OBC candidates were still listed as OBC-A and OBC-B.
| Category | Prelims | Final written (mains) |
|---|---|---|
| General | 22 | 38 |
| OBC-B | 21 | 37.75 |
| OBC-A | 16 | 36 |
| SC | 18 | 37.5 |
| ST | 14 | 32 |
Because the structure and scale were different, a 2018 figure cannot be set against a 2024 final merit score. What they do show is that cut offs were close together across categories in the written stage, and that the final written test was where the real filtering happened.
Older cut offs circulate in several versions with different labels. Treat them as background and check the board's archived notices before quoting any of them.
Forces behind the next WBP closing marks
- Vacancies by gender and category: the notice sets separate counts for men and women, and each list closes on its own.
- Penalty for errors: every incorrect response loses 0.25, which drags raw totals down and explains the decimals in the list.
- Interview marks: 15 marks, including a check of your language skills, can move you several places in a crowded list.
- Sub category quotas: home guard, civic volunteer and sports quota posts close at their own scores.
There is no official WBP constable expected cut off. Build your target from the latest final figures for your category and gender, and add a safety margin.
Checking the official cut off
The board publishes results, cut off notices and merit lists on the board's official recruitment website. Inside the Constable and Lady Constable recruitment, look for the final result or cut off notice; candidates can also log in to see their own marks.

Frequently asked questions
How high was the final WBP constable cut off for UR men?
It was 63.42 in the 2024 recruitment, against 47.17 on the UR women's list. Both are merit scores combining the written test and the interview.
Why do women's lists close lower?
Men and women are ranked on separate lists against separate vacancies. The balance of applicants and posts is different on the women's side, and in the 2024 recruitment it produced lower closing scores in every category.
Do PMT and PET marks count towards merit?
No. PMT and PET only decide whether you continue. Your rank comes from the 85 mark written test and the 15 mark interview.
Is there a WBP constable mains cut off now?
Not in the current format, which has a single written test. The prelims and mains figures you see online come from older recruitments, such as the 2018 round, when there were two written tests.
Does the WBP constable paper have negative marking?
It is. Each incorrect answer loses one fourth of its mark, and a blank loses nothing, so skip any question where you cannot narrow the options down to two.
Where is the official WBP constable cut off published?
On prb.wb.gov.in, the recruitment board's site, under the constable recruitment notices and results.
