UP lekhpal cut off: PET shortlist and mains marks

State exams7,994 postsUR mains 58.75Updated 26 Oct 2026

The UP lekhpal cut off comes in two layers: a PET normalised score that decides who may sit the lekhpal mains, and a mains score out of 100 that decides who is called for document verification. In the round advertised in 2025 for 7,994 posts, the unreserved mains cut off was 58.75 and the PET shortlisting mark was 55.12.

Below are both sets of numbers by category, what they mean for you, how the commission arrives at them and what is likely to push them up or down in the next lekhpal cut off.

What the lekhpal cut off decides

Think of a cut off as the score of the last person in your category who squeezed onto a list. Lekhpal hiring produces two of those lists. The first uses your UPSSSC PET normalised score to pick who is allowed to sit the mains. The second ranks mains scores to call people for document verification, where certificates, category and domicile proofs are checked before the final selection.

Clearing a cut off does not mean you are selected. It means you are still in the race. The final lekhpal list is made from mains merit within each category after the document stage, so the closing marks of the final list can sit a little above the shortlisting marks.

Reports of this eligibility result put the number of shortlisted candidates at 3,66,712, which works out to roughly 46 candidates for every post. Notice that four categories share one figure. When the commission shortlists a fixed multiple of posts and the pool is huge, the lowest score that fills each category's quota can land at the same point.

For some disability groups and outstanding sportspersons, the notice did not fix a mark and called all eligible candidates up to the posts available. Reports put the number of candidates cleared for document verification in this round at a little over 28,000.

What earlier rounds suggest

In the previous lekhpal round, whose main exam was held on 31 July 2022, the commission declared 27,455 candidates qualified for document checks. Cut off figures reported for that round were far higher, with unreserved marks in the mid seventies out of 100, though reports differ on whether those figures belong to the shortlist or the final list. Use them only as a sign that the paper and competition were different then.

The drop to the high fifties in the latest round lines up with the new mains pattern, which spreads marks across more sections, including Uttar Pradesh GK and computer, and keeps the quarter mark penalty. A harder or broader paper lowers raw scores for everyone, so the cut off falls even when competition is intense.

Pass mark or closing mark: which applies to lekhpal

Lekhpal does not work on a fixed pass mark in the way a school exam does. The PET score is a gate, and the mains cut off is relative: it depends on how others in your category scored. A score of 58 might be comfortable in one round and short in the next.

Neha, an OBC candidate, scored 57 in the mains. That cleared the OBC cut off of 55.75 for document verification by a little over one mark. She kept every certificate ready, including her OBC certificate in the state format, because a document problem at this stage can cost a seat that the marks had earned.

What will move the next lekhpal cut off

  • Number of posts: more vacancies in a category usually lower its closing mark.
  • Paper difficulty: a tough data interpretation or UP GK section pulls every score down.
  • PET pool: how many candidates pass PET, and how high they score, shapes the first filter.
  • Negative marking: careless guessing costs a quarter mark each time, which compresses scores near the cut off.
  • Reservation layout: horizontal quotas for women, ex-servicemen and divyang candidates have their own closing marks.

Do not trust anyone who quotes an exact next cut off. Prepare to clear the last unreserved figure with a margin of five to eight marks; that keeps you safe in most scenarios.

How to check the official lekhpal cut off

The commission publishes cut off marks with each result notice on the UPSSSC website. Open the results section, find the notice for the lekhpal advertisement, and download the result file. The cut off table is usually at the end of the notice, listed category by category, along with the roll numbers of shortlisted candidates.

To plan your preparation around these numbers, read the UP lekhpal syllabus and the UPSSSC PET syllabus, because a weak PET score shuts the mains door before it opens. Candidates who also sit village level exams can compare with the UP VDO syllabus, and other state cut off pages are listed under state exams.

Frequently asked questions

What was the UP lekhpal cut off for general category?

In the round advertised in 2025, unreserved candidates needed 58.75 out of 100 in the mains for document verification. To sit the mains, they needed a PET normalised score of 55.12.

Is the lekhpal cut off out of 100?

The mains cut off is out of 100 because the mains paper has 100 one mark questions. The shortlisting cut off is a PET normalised score, which is a different scale.

Why was the SC PET cut off the same as general?

When candidates are shortlisted in a fixed ratio to posts and the pool is very large, the score needed to fill several category quotas can end up identical. Only the ST figure was lower in that round.

Does clearing the mains cut off mean I am selected?

No. It means you are called for document verification. The final list depends on mains merit within your category and on your documents being in order.

Will the next lekhpal cut off be higher?

It depends on posts, paper difficulty and the PET pool. Any number quoted in advance is a guess, so aim to beat the last unreserved figure comfortably.

Where is the lekhpal cut off published?

In the result notice on the UPSSSC website, normally as a category wise table attached to the list of shortlisted roll numbers.
