The SSC CHSL cut off for Tier 1 in the 2024 cycle was 157.36 out of 200 for unreserved candidates in the LDC/JSA list and 176.27 for DEO posts, and in the next cycle it fell to 144.26 for LDC/JSA. These are the lowest normalised scores that took a candidate from Tier 1 into Tier 2 in each category.
This page puts the last two Tier 1 cut offs side by side, explains the minimum qualifying marks, shows how the final post wise cut off from Tier 2 works, and points you to the SSC notice where you can confirm every figure.

What a CHSL cut off actually means
Two separate lines decide your CHSL journey. The first comes after Tier 1: SSC ranks everyone by normalised marks and draws a line for each category and each post group, so that a fixed number of candidates move on to Tier 2. The second comes after Tier 2: SSC fills each post in each department in order of merit, and the score of the lowest person who still gets that post becomes its final cut off.
SSC leaves Tier 1 scores out of the final total; under the present scheme they matter only as a tie breaker, so clearing the Tier 1 line is all that matters at that stage. Your rank is built in Tier 2, which is why the final cut off is reported post by post rather than as one number.
SSC CHSL cut off for the 2024 cycle: Tier 1, category wise
| Category | LDC/JSA | DEO / DEO Grade A |
|---|---|---|
| UR | 157.36 | 176.27 |
| OBC | 156.62 | 176.27 |
| EWS | 150.52 | 176.27 |

| VH | 123.79 | Not listed |
| ESM | 78.23 | 133.94 |
| PwBD others | 72.54 | Not listed |
For the 2024 cycle SSC shortlisted about 39,835 candidates for the LDC/JSA list and about 1,630 for the DEO list. The DEO cut off was higher because there were far fewer DEO vacancies, and the general, OBC and EWS lines all landed on the same score.
CHSL 2025 Tier 1 cut off
| Category | LDC/JSA | DEO (12th science with maths) | DEO (other departments) |
|---|---|---|---|
| UR | 144.26 | 169.54 | 165.27 |
| OBC | 143.83 | 169.50 | 165.27 |
| EWS | 141.42 | 169.54 | 163.77 |
| SC | 125.40 | 157.72 | 158.63 |

In the 2025 cycle SSC split the DEO shortlist into two lists: one for DEO posts that require 12th science with maths, and one for all other DEO posts. The unreserved LDC/JSA line came down by about 13 marks from 2024, which shows how much the cut off can move from one cycle to the next.
Minimum qualifying marks versus the real shortlist line
| Category | Minimum share of marks | Tier 1 equivalent (of 200) |
|---|---|---|
| UR | 30% | 60 |
| OBC and EWS | 25% | 50 |
| All other categories | 20% | 40 |
These minimums apply in Tier 1 and in each scored section of Tier 2. Touching them merely avoids disqualification. In recent cycles the actual Tier 1 cut off for unreserved LDC/JSA candidates has been more than double the 60 mark minimum, so plan for the real line and ignore the minimum.
How the final cut off from Tier 2 works
After Tier 2, merit is the total of Section I (maths and reasoning) and Section II (English and general awareness), out of 360. Clearing the computer knowledge section and Section IV (typing or data entry speed) is compulsory too. SSC then allots posts by merit and the preference order you gave, and prints, for every department and category, the score of the lowest candidate who got a post.
Because a clerk post in one ministry can close several marks higher than the same post in another, you cannot read a single final cut off for CHSL. Look up the post wise table in the final result notice for the departments you actually prefer.
Factors that could shift the CHSL line in the coming cycle
- Vacancies: the latest notice lists about 2,536 tentative vacancies. A larger vacancy count tends to pull the shortlist score down because SSC then calls more people to Tier 2.
- Paper difficulty: easier shifts push raw scores up, and normalisation then spreads the effect across all shifts.
- Number of candidates: a bigger turnout at the same vacancy count pushes the line higher.
- Sectional timers: the latest notice fixes 15 minutes per Tier 1 subject, which may change how scores spread.
- Category share of vacancies: each category's line depends on its own posts and its own pool.
Nobody can know the next cut off in advance. A safe approach is to aim a few marks above the most recent unreserved line for your post group, and to judge your mock scores against that figure.
Reading the CHSL cut off on the SSC website
- Visit ssc.gov.in, then choose Results from the menu.
- Pick the CHSL exam and the stage (Tier 1, Tier 2 or final).
- Download the result write up. It lists, for each category, the lowest qualifying score and how many people made the list.
- Log in to your candidate account to see your own marks once SSC uploads them.
Using the cut off in your preparation
Work out what 157 or 144 out of 200 means in your own mocks: roughly 72 to 80 correct answers with almost no wrong ones. Then check which of the four subjects is costing you. The SSC CHSL syllabus page breaks down each subject, and solving official papers from the CHSL previous papers guide shows you the level the cut off was set against. Other 12th level central exams are compared in the SSC exams hub. Confirm your age and qualification on the eligibility page before you apply.
Frequently asked questions
What was the unreserved CHSL Tier 1 line in the 2024 cycle?
For the 2024 cycle the unreserved Tier 1 cut off was 157.36 out of 200 for LDC/JSA and 176.27 for DEO posts. These were normalised marks.
Is there a separate CHSL tier 2 cut off?
Yes. After Tier 2, SSC releases, out of 360, the closing score for every post, department and category. That final list is what decides who gets which job.
Why is the DEO cut off higher than LDC?
There are far fewer DEO vacancies than clerk vacancies, so SSC shortlists fewer candidates for the DEO list and the line rises.
Is 140 a good score in CHSL Tier 1?
It depends on the cycle and your category. In 2025, 140 would have been just short of the unreserved LDC/JSA line of 144.26, while in 2024 it was well below 157.36. Compare your score with the latest notice for your category.
How do I find the ssc chsl previous year cut off or last year cut off?
Every stage result published on ssc.gov.in includes that cycle's lines for each category. Open the results archive and filter by exam name and year.
Do Tier 1 marks affect my final selection?
Not directly. Under the latest scheme they are used only as a tie breaker. Final merit is based on Tier 2 Sections I and II.
