Rajasthan VDO syllabus for Gram Vikas Adhikari

State examsGraduate levelRajasthan panchayatUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The Rajasthan VDO syllabus for Gram Vikas Adhikari comes down to one OMR paper, 200 marks over three hours, built from eight parts: Hindi, English, maths, general knowledge and science, geography and natural resources, Rajasthan's agriculture and economy, Rajasthan's history and culture, and basic computers. Three Rajasthan focused parts together carry 90 of the 200 marks, and every wrong bubble is penalised at one third of the marks fixed for it.

You can only sit this paper if you have qualified the graduation level Common Eligibility Test (CET) that RSSB holds for graduate level posts. Below are the board's marks for each part, the full topic list, rules for the OMR sheet that catch many candidates out, and a plan that uses your CET preparation instead of starting over.

How Gram Vikas Adhikari selection works

Recruitment for the VDO post is a three step process for most candidates.

  1. CET (graduation level): a common screening test for many RSSB graduate posts. It does not appoint anyone, but without a qualifying CET score you cannot even fill the VDO form.
  2. VDO written exam: the paper described on this page. Your rank here, within your category and area, decides selection.
  3. Document verification: degree, computer certificate, category and domicile proofs.

The vacancies are split between scheduled (tribal) and non scheduled areas, and the latest drive was mostly for scheduled area posts, so read the area rules before applying.

Rajasthan VDO syllabus and exam pattern: marks by part

Gram Vikas Adhikari written exam, marks by part

General knowledge: current affairs (10) and general science (10)20
Geography and natural resources30
Agriculture and economic development of Rajasthan30
History and culture of Rajasthan30

The board publishes marks per part rather than a question count for each part. Reports of the latest sitting put the paper at 160 questions, so expect each question to be worth more than one mark and do not assume an equal split.

OMR rules: negative marking and option E

RSSB papers come with two rules that change how you should attempt them.

  • One third penalty: each mistake on the sheet knocks off one third of the marks set for that question.
  • Fifth bubble: each question has a fifth circle, E, meaning not attempted. Skipping is allowed, but the skipped item still needs E filled in. If over a tenth of the paper ends up with nothing darkened, the board can reject the candidate.
  • Extra 10 minutes: given at the end so you can check that every question has one of A to E marked.
RSSB repeats these rules in the admit card and booklet instructions. Go through them once more in the hall, since RSSB can revise them between drives.

Where the VDO marks cluster

Take the three state parts (geography with natural resources, agriculture and economy, and history with culture) and Rajasthan alone accounts for close to half the paper. Much of it overlaps with the Rajasthan GK you prepared for CET, so revise those notes rather than buying new material. Hindi at 30 marks is the other high return area: grammar questions repeat in style from paper to paper and can be answered in seconds.

Kavita from Udaipur cleared CET with good Rajasthan GK but weak maths. She gave her mornings to the 30 mark maths part for six weeks, working through class 9 and 10 NCERT chapters on interest, mensuration and statistics, and kept evenings for one Rajasthan topic a day. Her mock scores in maths went from 12 to 22 out of 30.

A ten week Rajasthan VDO study plan

  • Weeks 1 to 3: state history, art and culture, then geography of the state. Make one page notes per topic.
  • Weeks 4 to 5: agriculture, irrigation projects, Panchayati Raj and state schemes; follow budget and scheme news for current affairs.
  • Weeks 6 to 7: Hindi grammar daily, English on alternate days, maths practice every day.
  • Week 8: computer basics and general science.
  • Weeks 9 to 10: full 3 hour mock papers on an OMR sheet, practising the option E rule and the one third penalty.

Social science textbooks of the Rajasthan board, backed by NCERT, give a dependable base. Past VDO papers on the RSSB site show the question style.

Frequently asked questions

Is CET compulsory for the Rajasthan VDO exam?

Yes. Only candidates who qualified the graduation level CET with the required score can apply. The CET score itself does not count in VDO merit.

How many marks is the Rajasthan VDO paper?

It is 200 marks in 3 hours across eight parts. Reports of the latest exam give 160 questions, so marks per question are not all one.

What happens if I leave a question blank on the OMR sheet?

You must fill option E against every skipped item. If more than 10% of questions are left with no option marked, the board may disqualify you.

Which part of the Rajasthan VDO exam pattern carries the most marks?

No single part dominates: Hindi, maths and the three Rajasthan parts carry 30 marks each. Together the Rajasthan parts total 90, which is why state GK matters so much.

Is RS-CIT enough as the computer qualification?

Yes, RS-CIT from VMOU Kota is one of the accepted certificates, along with O level, COPA or DPCS, and a computer science diploma or degree.

Is there an interview for Gram Vikas Adhikari?

No. Your written score sets your rank, and the board then checks your documents.
