The Rajasthan patwari syllabus is spread over five areas tested in a single objective paper (150 questions, 300 marks): mental ability with basic maths, general science with Indian history, polity and geography, Rajasthan's own history and culture, general Hindi and English, and basic computer knowledge. Reasoning together with numerical skill takes 30 percent, the biggest slice.
The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board, still widely called RSMSSB, published the section weightage along with the latest syllabus, which makes planning much easier than for exams with open ended lists. Below is each section with its topics, then the rules of the OMR sheet that cost many candidates marks.

How patwari selection works
Becoming a patwari in Rajasthan takes three steps, and the first one happens long before the patwari advertisement.
- Common Eligibility Test: you need a CET result that meets the qualifying mark held at graduation level. Without it you cannot apply. Its pattern is covered on our Rajasthan CET graduation level syllabus page.
- Patwari main exam: the single written paper described here. Ranks are drawn from its marks alone; CET marks are not carried forward.
- Document verification: degree, computer course, category and domicile certificates are examined before names go on the final list.
There is no interview or typing test. After selection, patwaris go through departmental training before taking charge of village land records.
Rajasthan patwari exam pattern
| Section | Share | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| General science, Indian history, polity and geography, GK and current affairs | 25 percent | 38 | 76 |
| Rajasthan geography, history, culture and polity | 20 percent | 30 | 60 |
| General Hindi and English | 15 percent | 22 | 44 |
| Mental ability, reasoning and basic numerical efficiency | 30 percent | 45 | 90 |
| Basic computer | 10 percent | 15 | 30 |
| All sections | 100 percent | 150 | 300 |
Every item carries 2 marks, and you get 3 hours. Weightage is printed as approximate, so the count per section can move by a question or two.
OMR rules and negative marking
Every question on the board's OMR sheet has five circles. The first four hold the options, while E marks an item you decide not to attempt.
- For each wrong response, RSSB deducts 0.67 marks, that is, one third of a 2 mark question.
- A row left totally blank is penalised in the very same way as an incorrect bubble.
- If more than 10 percent of the questions have no bubble filled, the candidate is disqualified.
- Ten extra minutes are given at the end only to check that every row has one bubble filled.
So the safe habit is simple: answer what you know, fill E where you are unsure, and never leave a row empty.

Where to spend your hours
The weightage table tells you how to divide study time. Reasoning and maths give 90 marks, and the questions are usually solvable with practice, so make this your first block. Rajasthan GK and the India section together give another 136 marks; their lists are long, so revise it in smaller daily slices.
- Reasoning and maths: one hour daily, with puzzles and seating arrangements on alternate days.
- Rajasthan GK: use the state board school books on Rajasthan's history and geography, then add one topic of art and culture each day.
- Languages: 44 marks for fairly predictable grammar. Twenty minutes a day on Hindi vyakaran and English errors goes a long way.
- Computer: 30 marks from a short list. Finish it in a week and revise before the exam.
Eligibility for the patwari post

Frequently asked questions
How long is the Rajasthan patwari paper?
You answer 150 objective items in 3 hours, each carrying 2 marks, so the maximum is 300.
Which part of the patwari paper carries most marks?
Mental ability, reasoning and basic numerical efficiency carries about 30 percent, or 45 questions for 90 marks. India focused GK and science follows with about 25 percent.
Is negative marking applied in the patwari test?
Yes. Each error pulls roughly 0.67 off your total. The same deduction applies to any row with no bubble filled, so use option E for questions you skip.
Is CET necessary for the Rajasthan patwari exam?
Yes. Only candidates with a qualifying score in the graduate level CET can apply. Marks from CET are not added to patwari merit.
Does patwari selection include an interview?
No. Your written marks decide the merit, and document checking follows.
What is the Rajasthan patwari exam pattern for computer?
Basic computer holds roughly a tenth of the weight, around 15 questions for 30 marks, on computer basics, operating systems and office software.
