How selection for jail prahari works

Recruitment moves through three rounds. The written test opens the process and decides who is called further. Next is the physical efficiency test along with body measurements such as height and chest for men and height for women. Last comes document verification and medical checks before appointment.

The physical test is qualifying in nature, so your rank depends on the written paper. Still, plenty of candidates who score well lose the post because they cannot finish the run in time. Start running practice in the same month you start studying, not after the result.

Jail prahari exam pattern and marks

Recent cycle reports describe a single paper with the following split. Each question carries 4 marks.

The whole paper lasts 2 hours, with no separate time per section. A wrong answer costs 1 mark, so a blind guess hurts; answer only once two of the choices look clearly wrong. Reasoning by itself makes up 45 percent of the questions, which tells you where most of your practice hours should go.

RSSB rules on how to mark a question you skip on the OMR sheet have changed between recruitments. Go through the OMR directions on the admit card, and again on the sheet in the hall, before you mark anything.

Reasoning topics in the jail prahari syllabus

This section tests how quickly you spot patterns. Expect a mix of verbal and picture based items.

• Analogy, odd one out, likeness and contrast
• Number series and letter series
• Coding, decoding
• Direction sense and blood relations
• Statement based items: which assumption holds, which argument is strong, what follows, what step to take
• Figure classification, mirror and water images, embedded figures
• Simple arithmetical reasoning and puzzles on order and ranking

With 45 questions, a target of about 40 correct is realistic after two months of daily timed sets. Keep a notebook of every coding pattern and series rule you meet; most new questions are small twists on these.

General studies topics

Only 25 questions come from general studies, yet it spreads over the widest ground.

Current affairs

• State, national and international events from roughly the past twelve months
• Sports, awards, appointments and famous personalities
• Government schemes and policies
• Economic, social, cultural and environmental issues

General science

• Physical and chemical changes, metals, non metals and common compounds
• Reflection of light and its laws
• Basic terms of genetics
• Human body systems, common diseases, their causes and prevention, waste management

Disaster management and climate change

• Natural and man made disasters and how they are classified
• National and international agencies, national policies and plans
• Human impact on the environment: deforestation, pollution, overuse of resources, biodiversity loss

The science part is class 8 to 10 level. Revise from NCERT science books rather than thick guides.

General awareness of Rajasthan

This is where your Rajasthan schooling pays off, but only if you revise it with exam detail.

• Constitution and administration: basic features of the Indian Constitution, Right to Information Act, Governor, Chief Minister, cabinet, Vidhan Sabha, High Court, and district level administrative and judicial setup
• History, art and culture: major historical events, the freedom struggle, how the princely states joined to form the state, important personalities, language and literature, folk deities, fairs and festivals, dress and ornaments, folk music and dance, theatre, forts, monuments and tourist places
• Geography: location and extent, physical divisions, soil, vegetation, climate, rivers, lakes, irrigation projects, population, density, sex ratio, literacy, transport and roads
• Economy: agriculture, animal husbandry, minerals, industry, rural development, state income and budget, and the main problems of the state economy

Thirty questions here can swing the merit list. Make district wise one page sheets covering fairs, rivers, minerals and monuments, and you will cover a large share of what gets asked.

A ten week plan built around this paper

Split your day by section weight, not by what you enjoy.

1. Weeks 1 to 4: two hours of reasoning daily, one topic at a time. One hour on Rajasthan history and culture. Thirty minutes of newspaper reading for current affairs.
2. Weeks 5 to 7: attempt mixed reasoning drills, 45 items against a 40 minute clock. Cover Rajasthan geography and economy. Finish NCERT science chapters on light, the human body and chemical changes.
3. Weeks 8 to 10: one full paper every other day under 2 hours, with careful checking of wrong answers. Revise your Rajasthan sheets and a month by month list of news events.
