RRB PO previous year paper guide for Officer Scale I

BankingPrelims and mainsHindi optionUpdated 26 Oct 2026

An RRB PO previous year paper lets you feel, before exam day, how fast the Officer Scale I exam moves: 80 questions in 45 minutes at the prelims stage and 200 questions in two hours at the mains. The topics are familiar to any bank aspirant, but the regional rural bank papers have their own balance, with fewer English demands and a choice of Hindi in mains.

Below you will see a short pattern recap, the topic counts candidates reported from the 2025 papers, a step by step practice routine, five fresh questions in the same style and what IBPS itself shares after each stage.

For the final list, IBPS weights the mains at 80 and the 100 mark interview at 20. Candidate reports from the 2025 papers describe separate section clocks: roughly 25 minutes for reasoning and 20 for quant in prelims, and in mains about 30 minutes each for reasoning, quant and the language section with 15 minutes each for awareness and computers. Detailed topics are on our IBPS RRB PO syllabus page.

IBPS confirms sectional timing in the information handout for each stage. Set your practice clocks from that handout, not from an old paper.

What an RRB PO prelims previous year paper contained

Reports from the first shift on 22 November 2025 give a useful breakdown of the prelims paper:

RRB PO prelims, 2025, as reported by candidates
SectionTopicQuestions
ReasoningPuzzle sets: circular and linear seating, boxes, designations, comparisons23
Syllogism4
Inequality, direction and blood relation9
Miscellaneous (word, pair, number arrangement)4
Total40
QuantData interpretation (table, double pie, caselet)13
Arithmetic12
Missing number series5
Approximation and quadratic comparison10
Total40

Both sections were rated easy to moderate. The lesson from any rrb po pre previous year paper of this cycle: puzzles decide reasoning, while DI and arithmetic carry most of the quant marks.

What RRB PO mains previous year papers showed

Candidates who sat the single mains shift of 28 December 2025 called it moderate. Candidates reported three puzzle sets of five questions each in reasoning, alongside about eight logical or critical reasoning items, a machine input and output set, data sufficiency, syllogism and blood relation. Quant leaned heavily on data interpretation, about 18 questions, with arithmetic, number series and data sufficiency making up the rest.

  • General awareness: banking and RBI news, rural finance, welfare schemes and the main headlines of the past half year.
  • Computer knowledge: basic hardware, software, networking, internet and office questions, rated easy.
  • Language: English papers had a passage, cloze, double fillers, error spotting, idioms, word swap and para jumbles; the Hindi option tested gadyansh, muhavare, shabd, rikt sthan and vakya shuddhi.
These topic counts are compiled from candidate recall after the exam. With no official key to settle the numbers, figures differ a little from one report to another.

Practising with an IBPS RRB PO previous year question paper

  1. Speed base first: spend the first two weeks on daily drills of approximation, series and quadratics with a stopwatch, because these give 15 quick prelims marks.
  2. Section papers: split every past ibps rrb po prelims question paper into its reasoning and quant halves, attempt them separately within their sectional time, and note the puzzle types you skip.
  3. Full prelims: from week four, write a complete 45 minute paper on alternate days and review it the next morning.
  4. Mains block: after the prelims exam, sit an ibps rrb po mains previous year paper for two unbroken hours, choosing the same language section you will pick on exam day.
  5. Awareness file: keep a notebook of banking and rural economy news for the six months before mains.
Meena from Jaipur was strong in maths but kept losing marks in reasoning. Reviewing four old prelims papers, she saw that she always started with the longest circular puzzle. She switched to solving inequality, direction and syllogism items first, which took her six minutes, then picked the easiest two puzzles, and her reasoning attempts rose by eight in a fortnight.

Sample questions in the RRB PO style

We created these five questions for practice; none comes from an IBPS paper.

  1. Approximation: 24.98 percent of 640.2 + 15.01 × 7.99 = ? Answer: about 280 (160 + 120).
  2. Number series: 6, 11, 21, 41, 81, ? Answer: 161, since each term doubles and drops one.
  3. Inequality: If A ≥ B > C = D and D < E, which is definitely true? (a) A > D (b) B = E (c) C > E (d) A < C. Answer: (a).
  4. Arithmetic: A farmer borrows ₹50,000 under a crop loan at 7 percent simple interest a year. What interest does he pay after 2 years? Answer: ₹7,000.
  5. Rural awareness: Which apex institution regulates and supervises Regional Rural Banks along with the RBI, and provides refinance to them? Answer: NABARD.

Where to get RRB PO papers officially

IBPS does not put full question papers on ibps.in. What you can rely on there is the notification with the official pattern, the information handout for each stage with sample questions, and your score card after results. Use your real score card to compare with your mock scores.

Memory based versions of every ibps rrb previous year question paper are widely shared. They are good for style and topic balance, but numbers and options may be off, so check answers yourself rather than trusting a printed key. To set a target score, look at recent qualifying marks on our IBPS RRB PO cut off page.

Linking RRB PO practice with other bank exams

The Office Assistant exam uses the same two prelims subjects at a slightly easier level, so its old papers are excellent speed practice; see the IBPS RRB clerk previous papers. For the nationalised bank officer exam, where English and a descriptive test count, compare with the IBPS PO previous papers. The full list of banking exams is in the bank exams hub.

Frequently asked questions

Does IBPS release the RRB PO question paper?

No. IBPS shares the notification, information handouts and individual score cards, yet the actual question booklet and a public key never appear. Any version you find has been put together from what candidates remembered.

Is English compulsory in RRB PO mains?

No. In mains you pick one language test, and Hindi is allowed in place of English. The prelims has only reasoning and quant.

What count of past prelims papers is enough?

Aim for about ten full prelims papers in the last month, each reviewed carefully. Add section wise drills on puzzles and DI in between.

Is the ibps rrb previous year paper harder than IBPS PO?

RRB PO prelims is usually easier and shorter, but it is extremely fast at 80 questions in 45 minutes. Mains is moderate, without the descriptive test of IBPS PO.

Are older RRB PO papers still useful?

Yes. The basic pattern of 80 marks in prelims and 200 in mains has stayed steady, so papers from 2023 and 2024 remain good practice. Check sectional timing in the latest handout.

Is there negative marking in RRB PO?

It does. In prelims and mains alike, IBPS docks 0.25 of an item's value for each wrong pick; leaving a bubble blank carries no deduction.
