If you solve an IBPS RRB clerk previous year question paper with a stopwatch beside you, the Office Assistant exam stops feeling mysterious: the prelims turns out to be a 45 minute race in reasoning and maths, and the mains a two hour test of five subjects. Old papers show which question types repeat and where marks leak away.
This guide sums up what recent rrb clerk papers contained at both stages, how to practise with them, a small set of items we wrote in the same manner, and where official information is published.

The two papers in brief
Before you open any rrb clerk previous year paper, fix the current structure in your head:
| Stage | Sections | Questions and time |
|---|---|---|
| Prelims | Reasoning (25 min), Numerical Ability (20 min) | 40 each, 45 minutes in all |
| Mains | Reasoning, Numerical Ability, General Awareness, English or Hindi, Computer Knowledge | 40 each, 200 in 120 minutes |
Every section has a separate timer. Reasoning and numerical ability are worth 50 marks apiece in mains, while the 40 computer questions carry only half a mark each. The full breakdown is on our IBPS RRB clerk syllabus page.
Reading an IBPS RRB clerk previous year question paper for prelims
Candidate based analyses of the 2025 prelims shifts rated the paper easy, which made accuracy the real filter. One reported shift split like this:
- Numerical ability (40): around 15 simplification items, 10 data questions built on one table plus a line chart, 5 wrong number series and 10 word problems on ages, percentage, partnership, interest, work, speed, mixtures and mensuration.
- Reasoning (40): four puzzle sets adding up to about 18 questions (square seating, seven boxes, a day based schedule and a comparison set), 5 coding questions, 5 on a set of words, plus syllogism, inequality and direction.
Because English is absent, many candidates treat each rrb clerk pre previous year paper as two separate sprints. That works: train reasoning for 25 minutes and maths for 20, and never let one bleed into the other.
What rrb clerk mains previous year papers contain
Memory based reports of the 2024 and 2025 mains describe a moderate paper with a steady shape:
- Reasoning: puzzles and seating made up about 20 questions in the 2024 paper, with coding, syllogism, machine input, two statement sufficiency and short series taking the rest. The 2025 paper was reported as even more puzzle heavy.
- Numerical ability: roughly 18 to 20 questions from data interpretation (line graph, table and caselet), about 10 to 12 of arithmetic, and small blocks of approximation and series.
- General awareness: current affairs supplied around 25 of the 40 questions, banking awareness about 7, economy about 5, and static facts only a handful.
- Computer knowledge: abbreviations, shortcuts, hardware, office software, networking and memory, rated the easiest section by many candidates.
- Language paper: the English option reportedly had one long passage of 10 questions, then error spotting, cloze, odd word usage and para jumbles.
A six week plan using old Office Assistant papers
- Week 1: sit one full prelims paper untimed, then the same paper again under the real 25 and 20 minute limits. The gap between the two scores shows how much is a speed problem.
- Weeks 2 and 3: 15 simplification items daily in under six minutes, plus two puzzle sets from past papers.
- Week 4: three full prelims papers, each followed by a written review of every guess you made.
- Weeks 5 and 6: switch to the ibps rrb clerk mains previous year paper sets. For each rrb clerk mains question paper you take up from a previous year cycle, finish computer and awareness in 15 minutes apiece, then spend the saved energy on long caselets and puzzles.
Sample items in the Office Assistant style
The items below are our own, drafted to resemble recent gramin bank clerical shifts.
- Wrong number series: 4, 9, 19, 39, 78, 159. Which term does not fit? Key: 78. Each term doubles and adds 1, so 79 belongs there.
- Simplification: (48 x 25) / 16 + 7 squared = ? Key: 75 + 49 = 124.
- Syllogism: All tractors are machines. Some machines are pumps. Conclusion: some tractors are pumps. Key: it does not follow, because the pumps may lie outside the tractors.
- Computer knowledge: Which memory is lost when power is switched off: ROM, RAM, hard disk or flash drive? Key: RAM.
Official places to check
IBPS publishes the CRP RRB notification, the scheme of each exam, information handouts with the call letters, score cards and cut offs on ibps.in. It does not, as a rule, release complete Office Assistant question papers, so every full rrb clerk previous year question paper you find has been pieced together from candidate recall. Rely on the official notice for timings and on those reconstructed sets only for question styles.

Frequently asked questions
Is English asked in the RRB clerk prelims?
No. Office Assistant prelims tests just two subjects: reasoning and maths. Language appears in mains, where you pick one paper out of English and Hindi.
Are old RRB clerk papers from IBPS official?
Full papers are generally not released by IBPS. The sets in circulation are memory based, so expect small errors and use them for practice of question types.
Which mains section gives the quickest marks?
Computer knowledge and general awareness can each be finished in about 15 minutes. Computer questions carry half a mark each, so do not spend long on any single one.
Should I solve the Hindi language paper from old sets?
Only if you plan to choose Hindi in mains. Settle on one language paper early and train for it alone, as you cannot attempt both.
How hard were recent RRB clerk papers?

Does the score from prelims count in the final list?
No. The first stage is a screening step for mains and nothing more. Provisional allotment follows mains merit together with your state, category and the vacancies reported.
