ECGC PO cut off: sectional, written and final

BankingSectional minimumsInterview 40 percentUpdated 26 Oct 2026

In the FY 2024-25 recruitment, the ECGC PO cut off in the unreserved list stood at 122.75 out of 240 on the written stage (objective test plus descriptive paper) and 54.50 out of 100 on the final select list, as reported from the corporation's cut off table. Reserved categories closed lower at every stage, with ST at 101 on the written total.

ECGC sets four layers of minimums: one per section, one on the written total, one on the interview and a final merit line. Below you will see each layer for the last drive, an older set of figures for comparison, and what these numbers mean for your own target.

How ECGC fixes the PO cut off

ECGC Ltd, the public sector export credit insurer, recruits Probationary Officers through a 200 mark online objective test, a 40 mark descriptive English paper and an interview, as set out on our ECGC PO syllabus page. Vacancies are few, so the corporation applies several filters one after another:

  1. A minimum in each objective section and in the descriptive paper.
  2. A minimum on the combined written score for each category, used to shortlist for interview.
  3. A minimum score in the interview itself.
  4. A final merit line on a 100 point scale, where written marks count for 80 and the interview for 20.

Miss any one filter and you drop out, which is why a strong total alone is not enough.

ECGC PO cut off at the written stage

Written stage minimums, FY 2024-25
CategoryObjective (200)Objective plus descriptive (240)
UR93.75122.75
EWS91.25118.50
OBC89.00116.50
SC81.75109.50
ST72.75101.00

UR candidates needed under half the objective marks, which says a lot about the paper. With 140 minutes for 200 questions and a 0.25 penalty on every incorrect choice, very few candidates attempt everything, and accurate attempts matter more than volume.

Section by section minimums

Per section floor, FY 2024-25
Test and maximumUnreserved, EWSReserved, PwBD
Reasoning (50)6.253.75
English (40)15.0010.75
Computer knowledge (20)7.255.25
General awareness (40)4.252.50
Quantitative aptitude (50)11.507.50
Descriptive paper (40)21.5020.00

The objective sectional bars are low, yet the descriptive bar is not: 21.50 of 40 for UR means more than half marks on the essay and precis. Candidates who skip writing practice often clear every objective section and still fail here.

Kiran's mock scores in reasoning and quant are comfortable, but her essays come back at around 16 of 40. With the descriptive minimum above 20, she sets herself an essay plus a precis on alternate days over the next month and a half and gets a friend to mark them against a time limit.

Interview minimum and final select list

Interview floor and final line, FY 2024-25
CategoryInterview minimumFinal score (out of 100)
UR24 of 6054.50
EWS24 of 6049.66
OBC21 of 6049.41
SC21 of 6047.83
ST21 of 6043.25

The interview carries 60 marks, and so the floor equals 40 percent of the interview marks in the unreserved and EWS lists and 35 percent in the reserved lists. The final score converts written marks to 80 and interview marks to 20. A wait list was also published, with UR closing at 51.58, so a few candidates just below the select line still had a chance if selected candidates did not join.

An older drive for comparison

Figures reported for the 2018 recruitment, on the same 240 mark written scheme, were much higher.

Written total in 2018 (240 marks)
CategoryCut off
UR169.00
OBC147.75
SC144.00
ST128.00

The UR written bar fell from 169 to 122.75 between these drives. The drop may reflect a harder paper, changed section sizes or a different number of posts; the corporation does not explain it. Treat both numbers as a range of what can happen rather than a forecast.

What decides the next figure

  • Number of posts: ECGC advertises far fewer PO posts than the large bank drives, so adding or removing a handful of seats shifts the bar.
  • Paper difficulty: a hard quant or reasoning section pulls the objective total down, as the last drive shows.
  • Descriptive marking: because the essay and precis count in the written total, strong writers gain a real edge.
  • Category vacancies: with few reserved posts in each category, a single strong candidate can shift the closing score.

The latest online exam has already been held, but check the corporation's website for its cut off after the final list appears, and do not rely on predicted figures.

Where to find the official table

ECGC publishes its cut off table on the careers section of its website after the final result. The table lists the sectional minimums, written totals, the interview minimum and the final select and wait list scores for each category, including PwBD sub groups.

These FY 2024-25 figures come from reports of ECGC's own table. Match them with the official file, and read the newest advertisement for section sizes before you fix a target.

Setting a target score

Work backwards from the final line. A UR candidate who wants a margin above 54.50 should aim for a written score well clear of the shortlist bar, say 135 to 140 of 240 in mocks as a personal target, not a forecast, and then a solid interview. Put most objective practice into reasoning and quant, which carry 100 of the 200 marks, but give English and the descriptive paper steady weekly time, since together they are worth 80 marks.

Frequently asked questions

What was the ECGC PO cut off for general candidates?

In the FY 2024-25 drive, the UR written cut off was 122.75 out of 240 and the final select list closed at 54.50 out of 100, as reported from ECGC's cut off table.

Does ECGC PO apply sectional minimums?

Yes. You must reach a floor in all five objective sections and in the descriptive paper. In the last drive the descriptive minimum for UR was 21.50 out of 40.

What does the ECGC PO interview carry?

The interview carries 60 marks. In the FY 2024-25 drive UR and EWS candidates needed 24 there, and other categories needed 21.

Does the descriptive paper count in the ECGC PO cut off?

Yes. The written cut off used for shortlisting is out of 240, which includes the 40 mark descriptive paper along with the 200 mark objective test.

Why does the ECGC PO cut off change so much between drives?

ECGC recruits only a small number of officers, and section sizes and difficulty can change between notifications. Both factors move the closing score sharply.

Where is the official ECGC PO cut off released?

On the careers section of the ECGC website, usually after the final result, as a table covering every stage.
