DSSSB MTS Syllabus: Exam Pattern and Topics

Teaching10th pass200 marksUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The DSSSB MTS syllabus is one online objective paper: 200 items to finish inside 120 minutes, split equally across five sections: general awareness, reasoning, arithmetic, Hindi and English, each worth 40 marks. There is no second tier for Multi Tasking Staff; after the written test you go to document verification and a medical, so the CBT score is effectively your selection score.

This page lays out the dsssb mts exam pattern, the topics of each section, how negative marking changes your strategy, how to use past papers, and a 12 week plan written for class 10 pass candidates. If you are comparing Delhi government posts, the wider DSSSB syllabus guide explains the board's other exam tiers.

How DSSSB selects Multi Tasking Staff

MTS posts in Delhi government offices are filled through the board's one-tier scheme for general posts. The stages are short:

  1. Computer-based test: 200 questions, the only marks that count for merit.
  2. Document verification: your certificates of age, class 10, category and residence are checked against what you entered in the form.
  3. Medical examination: done by the appointing department before you join.

The latest MTS advertisement offered 714 vacancies, split as 302 open, 212 OBC, 77 EWS, 70 SC and 53 ST seats. With so many posts and a low entry qualification, competition is wide, so every mark in the CBT matters.

Which sections pay back fastest

All five sections carry the same 40 marks, but they do not take the same effort. Hindi is the section many Delhi candidates score best in, because the grammar is taught in school and the questions are short. Reasoning at MTS level is also quick once you practise the common types. Arithmetic needs the most practice per mark, and English is where many candidates lose marks to guessing.

With 0.25 marks lost for each wrong answer, four blind attempts cancel a right one. Mark an answer when two choices are clearly out; otherwise move on. Over 200 questions, that habit alone can save 8 to 10 marks.

Rahul from Shahdara passed class 12 and works in a shop until 6 pm. In his first full mock he scored 112, with 34 wrong answers costing him 8.5 marks. He stopped guessing in English and spent his saved time on Hindi, where he was sure. Three mocks later he was at 131 without having learnt a single new chapter.

DSSSB MTS syllabus previous year question paper practice

Old DSSSB papers show you the pitch of this exam better than any book, which sits close to the SSC MTS level but with a separate Hindi section. When you work through them, look for patterns rather than memorising answers:

  • How many general awareness questions are about Delhi and how many are recent events
  • Which reasoning types repeat, usually coding, series and analogies
  • Whether arithmetic leans on percentages and interest, or on time and work

Answer keys and notices for every DSSSB exam go up on dsssb.delhi.gov.in, so look there first for any official papers it has released. Practice papers from the SSC MTS previous papers guide also suit the reasoning, maths and English sections, since the level is similar. Once results are out, our DSSSB MTS cut off guide covers category-wise merit.

A 12 week plan for the MTS CBT

  1. Weeks 1 to 3: arithmetic basics daily for an hour (percentage, ratio, average, interest), with reasoning types on alternate days.
  2. Weeks 4 to 6: Hindi grammar topics one by one, and English grammar rules with 20 practice sentences a day.
  3. Weeks 7 to 9: GK built from school NCERT books (middle and secondary classes), plus 15 minutes of news each day with a focus on Delhi.
  4. Weeks 10 to 12: a timed 200 item mock on alternate days, then an hour spent on the mistakes from it.

Writing the central government MTS exam too? the SSC MTS syllabus covers most of the same ground except Hindi.
