The CUET PG MBA syllabus is an aptitude syllabus, not a subject syllabus: it tests English and comprehension, quantitative ability, logical reasoning and data interpretation through 75 multiple choice questions answered on screen. You do not need a commerce or management degree to score well, because nothing in it assumes business knowledge.
The National Testing Agency lists this paper as the general paper for MBA and similar programmes, with code COQP12 in recent cycles. Universities that admit to MBA through CUET PG name this paper in their prospectus, so confirm both the code and your university's choice before you register.

Where the CUET PG MBA syllabus fits
Most CUET PG papers test the subject of your bachelor's degree. The MBA paper is different. It sits among the common or general papers, which serve courses that admit graduates from any discipline, and checks the reasoning and language skills that management courses expect.
Central universities and several state and private universities use CUET PG scores for their MBA and related programmes, while some institutes run their own tests or accept other exams. Each university decides which paper it accepts, whether it adds a group discussion or interview, and how much weight the score gets. Check the university's admission page as well as the NTA bulletin.

Exam pattern and marking scheme
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| How you take it | On a computer at an NTA centre |
| Questions | 75 multiple choice, all compulsory to view, attempt as you choose |
| Maximum marks | 300 |
| Duration | 90 minutes |
| Right answer | +4 |
| Wrong answer | -1 |
| Not attempted | 0 |
| Medium | English and Hindi |
You get 72 seconds per item on average. One wrong answer wipes out a quarter of a right one, so a guess pays off only when you can eliminate at least two options. No official count of items per section is given for this paper, so prepare all four areas evenly.
NTA has changed paper timings and the number of papers a candidate may choose between cycles. Take the duration, slots and paper code from the information bulletin of the year you apply.
CUET PG syllabus for MBA: English and comprehension
- Grammar: sentence correction and sentence improvement
- Common errors in usage
- Reading comprehension passages with direct and inference based questions
- Paragraph completion
- One word substitutes for longer expressions
- Synonym and antonym pairs
- Phrases and idiomatic usage
Published syllabus lists for this paper also mention Hindi comprehension, covering grammar, passage reading, synonyms, opposites and idioms. If you choose the Hindi medium, give that part the same attention you would give English.
Reading speed is what separates scores here. A passage of 400 to 500 words with four or five questions should take you no more than six or seven minutes.
Quantitative ability topics
- Percentages, the base for most other chapters
- Profit, loss and discount style questions
- Interest, both simple and compound
- Partnership
- Time and work, and work with wages
- Pipes and cisterns
- Time, speed and distance, including problems on trains
The quant list is arithmetic heavy and stops short of algebra and geometry, which many other MBA entrance tests include. That is good news for students from arts or commerce backgrounds. If you can solve class 8 to 10 arithmetic quickly and accurately, you are close to exam ready; the extra work is speed.
Tanvi finished a BA in political science and has not studied maths since class 10. She spends her first three weeks only on percentages, because profit and loss, interest and data interpretation all depend on it. After that, partnership and time and work take her only two or three days each.
Logical reasoning and data interpretation
Logical reasoning
- Ranking and order tests
- Linear and matrix arrangements, sequencing
- Statements with arguments, assumptions and conclusions
- Cause and effect, inferences
- Number series, analogies, coding and decoding
- Family relation puzzles, direction and distance
- Symbol based problems and non verbal reasoning
Data interpretation
- Pie charts, line graphs and bar charts
- Tables and mixed graphs
- Data sufficiency
- Sets and Venn diagrams
Reasoning and data interpretation reward practice more than theory. Arrangement puzzles take time, so learn to judge in the first 30 seconds whether a set is worth attempting. Data interpretation sets are mostly percentage and ratio calculations dressed up as charts, which links them directly to your quant preparation.
Ten weeks to the MBA paper
- Weeks 1 to 3: arithmetic basics (percentages, ratios, averages) and one reading comprehension passage every day.
- Weeks 4 to 5: the rest of the quant list and the main reasoning types, 30 questions a day.
- Weeks 6 to 7: data interpretation and arrangement puzzles, with grammar and vocabulary drills on alternate days.
- Weeks 8 to 10: two or three complete mocks a week, each one sat on screen against a 90 minute clock. After each, list every wrong answer by section and topic.
Since marking is plus four and minus one, a target of about 55 to 60 careful attempts with high accuracy usually beats rushing through all 75. Adjust that number once your mock accuracy is known.
Books and official material
NCERT maths books of classes 8 to 10 cover nearly all the arithmetic you need. For English, any sound grammar handbook plus a newspaper editorial each morning will do. Use NTA's CUET PG website for the syllabus file, the information bulletin, mock tests and past answer keys, which show the real level of the paper.
Writing other management entrances too? Set this list beside the CAT syllabus or the CMAT syllabus; both go deeper in algebra and verbal ability. Students considering computer applications instead can look at the CUET PG MCA syllabus, while our entrance exams hub gathers the rest.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a separate CUET PG syllabus for MBA?
Yes. The MBA paper has its own syllabus made up of English and comprehension, quantitative ability, logical reasoning and data interpretation. It is listed among the common papers rather than the subject papers.
Do I need a commerce degree for the MBA paper?
No. The syllabus contains no accounting or management theory, so graduates of any stream can prepare for it. Eligibility for the MBA course itself is set by each university, so check the minimum marks and degree conditions in its prospectus.
Is there negative marking?
Yes. You lose 1 mark for an incorrect choice and gain 4 for a correct one. Questions left blank get zero, so skip those you cannot narrow down.
How long is the CUET PG MBA paper?
Recent cycles allowed 90 minutes for the 75 questions. NTA has altered timings before, so confirm the duration in the current information bulletin.
Which section should I focus on most?
NTA does not publish a section wise split, so no single area can be ignored. Most students gain fastest by improving arithmetic and reading speed, because both also help in data interpretation.
Can I take the MBA paper with another CUET PG paper?
Usually yes, if the papers are in different slots and the bulletin allows that many papers. The number of papers and slot rules change by cycle, so plan your choices after reading the bulletin.
