The BSSC office attendant syllabus has three parts: General Knowledge with current affairs, General Mathematics and General Hindi, all set at the matric (class 10) standard and packed into one multiple choice sitting of 100 questions that runs for two hours. No interview follows and no second written round exists, so this one paper decides your merit before document verification.
The Bihar Staff Selection Commission recruits Karyalay Parichari (Office Attendant) and Attendant (Special) staff for Bihar government offices through this combined competitive exam. The last advertisement, number 06/25, offered 3,727 posts. Read on for the paper's layout, the topic list of every part, minimum pass percentages, a brief Hindi version and a ten week routine built around matric standard questions.

How selection works for Karyalay Parichari
The route is short. You sit one written test, and the Commission prepares a merit list from those marks. Candidates who rank within the vacancies get a call letter for checking of papers, where your matric certificate, caste and residence papers and other records are checked against what you filled in the form.
- Stage 1: objective written exam on GK, mathematics and Hindi.
- Stage 2: document verification for shortlisted candidates.
Since there is no physical test, skill test or interview, every mark in the paper counts directly toward your rank. That also means small errors cost more than in a multi stage exam.
BSSC office attendant exam pattern
| Part | Subject | Questions |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | General Knowledge and current affairs | 40 |
| 2 | General Mathematics (arithmetic) | 30 |
| 3 | General Hindi | 30 |
| Total, 2 hours | 100 | |
All questions are multiple choice. Candidates with a disability are reported to get 20 extra minutes for each hour. Published summaries of the advertisement agree on the 100 questions and the two hour limit, but they differ on the marks given per question and on the penalty, with several stating a deduction of 1 mark against each incorrect choice. Read the scheme in the official advertisement before you decide how many doubtful questions to attempt.
General Knowledge: the 40 question part
This is the largest part, and it leans on class 10 social science and science along with Bihar specific knowledge.
- History and culture: Indian freedom movement, the contribution of Bihar to India's struggle for freedom, art and culture of Bihar.
- Geography and economy: natural resources such as forests, water, agriculture, minerals and energy, manufacturing industries, the national economy and basic map reading.
- Polity: the Indian Constitution, federalism and centre state relations, political parties, Panchayati Raj.
- Economics basics: money and credit, globalisation and trade.
- Science: light, electricity, acids, bases and salts, how chemical reactions work, carbon and its compounds, metals and non metals, the periodic table, life processes, heredity and the environment.
- Current affairs: national, international and Bihar events.
General Mathematics: 30 arithmetic questions
Arithmetic here never goes beyond matric. Most items ask you to compute one value quickly, not to untangle lengthy story problems.
- LCM and HCF
- Number types: natural, whole, integer, rational, irrational and real numbers
- Squares, cubes, square roots and cube roots
- Percentage
- Profit, loss and discount, including commission and sales tax
- Interest, both simple and compound
- Speed, time and distance
- Ratio, direct proportion and inverse proportion
Because the list is short, you can cover all of it in a few weeks and then shift to speed practice.
General Hindi: grammar and the class 10 textbook
The Hindi part tests grammar, vocabulary and the matric Hindi book.
- Grammar: noun, pronoun, gender, number, adjective, tense, case (karak), sandhi, samas, prefixes and suffixes.
- Vocabulary: synonyms, antonyms, idioms, proverbs and one word substitution.
- Correction: spelling and sentence correction, tatsam and tadbhav words.
- Literature: prose and poetry lessons of the class 10 Hindi textbook and questions about their authors.

Qualifying percentages and who can apply
A name enters the merit list only after crossing a floor set as a share of the total. The last advertisement, as reported, set these levels:
| Category | Minimum |
|---|---|
| Unreserved | 40% |
| Backward Class | 36.5% |
| Extremely Backward Class | 34% |
| SC and ST | 32% |
| Women (all categories) and persons with disability | 32% |
On eligibility, you need a matric (class 10) pass. The age band was 18 to 37 for unreserved men, with the upper limit raised to 40 for Backward and Extremely Backward Class candidates and unreserved women, to 42 where the applicant is SC or ST, with a further 10 years allowed to disabled applicants. The reference date for age in that notice was 1 August.
A 10 week plan for a single paper
- Weeks 1 to 3: finish all eight arithmetic topics with class 10 level examples, and revise Hindi grammar rules one topic per day.
- Weeks 4 to 6: go through your matric history, civics, geography and science texts to build the GK base, adding a page of Bihar facts (districts, rivers, freedom fighters, festivals) each day.
- Weeks 7 and 8: take a full timed paper every third day, and track wrong answers by part.
- Weeks 9 and 10: news from roughly the past eight months, plus two full papers a week.
A hundred items in 120 minutes leaves you about 72 seconds each. Aim to finish Hindi in about 25 minutes, so the arithmetic part gets the extra time it needs. If the latest advertisement confirms a penalty, skip questions where you cannot rule out two options.
For books, the Bihar board or NCERT class 10 texts in Hindi, mathematics, science and social science cover nearly all of the static syllabus. Many aspirants apply to several matric level posts together, so the SSC MTS syllabus and RBI office attendant syllabus pages are worth a look, while the BSSC inter level syllabus shows what the Commission asks at 12th standard.
