Agriculture supervisor syllabus for the Rajasthan exam

State exams12th with agriculture100 questionsUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The agriculture supervisor syllabus for the Rajasthan Krishi Paryavekshak exam has five parts: General Hindi, general knowledge of Rajasthan, agronomy (crop science), horticulture and animal husbandry, all tested in one objective paper. RSSB, known until recently as RSMSSB, runs this recruitment for the state agriculture department.

Three of the five parts are pure farm science, so a student from an agriculture stream starts with an edge. Still, the Hindi and Rajasthan sections can make or break your rank, because many candidates score evenly in the technical parts. Here is the paper, the topic list, and a plan for each section.

Agriculture supervisor exam pattern

As reported for recent rounds, RSSB picks candidates through one OMR paper and then checks documents. The split below is how preparation sources present the paper; the board's own syllabus PDF is the final word.

Krishi Paryavekshak paper by section, per recent reports
PartQuestionsMarks
General Hindi1545
Rajasthan GK, history and culture2575
Agronomy (crop science)2060
Horticulture2060
Animal husbandry2060
Total100300

Every item carries 3 marks, and the clock gives you 120 minutes. An incorrect choice drags your score down by a third of that item, so a careless guess costs you a full mark.

The part wise numbers come from reports of recent cycles. Download the syllabus that comes with your advertisement from the board's site, as the board can change the weightage or add a minimum qualifying mark.

Part 1: General Hindi

This is grammar, not literature. Topics listed for the paper:

  • Sandhi and sandhi vichhed
  • Prefixes (upsarg) and suffixes (pratyay)
  • Samas and its types
  • Word pairs with near meaning, synonyms and antonyms
  • Correction of words and sentences
  • One word for a phrase
  • Technical and official terms
  • Idioms and proverbs

Fifteen questions at 3 marks each make this part worth 45 marks, more than many people expect.

Part 2: Rajasthan general knowledge

  • Geography: climate, rivers, deserts, the Aravalli hills, main crops of the state
  • History: ancient and medieval periods, ruling dynasties and their contributions, the freedom struggle and the integration of Rajasthan
  • Culture: dialects and local farm terms, lok devta and saints, melas and festivals, music and dance traditions, forts, temples and architecture, customs and traditions
  • Tourism: major tourist places of the state

With 25 questions, this is the single largest block in the paper. Link geography to agriculture where you can: knowing which zone grows which crop helps here and in agronomy.

Part 3: Agronomy and crop science

  • Present state of agriculture and horticulture in Rajasthan
  • Agro climatic zones and soil types of the state
  • Soil and water conservation
  • Manures, fertilisers and organic farming inputs
  • Irrigation methods and drainage
  • Weeds and their control
  • Package of practices for cereals, pulses, oilseeds, fibre, fodder, spice and cash crops
  • Seed production and storage
  • Dry land farming and crop rotation
  • State and central farm schemes

Questions often ask for a seed rate, a sowing time, a recommended variety for Rajasthan or the right fertiliser dose, so make a crop wise table rather than reading in paragraphs.

Part 4: Horticulture

  • Scope and importance of horticulture
  • Nursery raising and orchard layout
  • Plant propagation, training and pruning
  • Plant growth regulators
  • Production of fruits such as mango and citrus, and vegetables such as onion and tomato
  • Post harvest handling and preservation: drying, canning, jam, jelly and squash
  • Medicinal and aromatic plants, and flower growing
  • Horticulture schemes

Part 5: Animal husbandry

  • Role of livestock in the farm economy
  • Breeds of cattle, buffalo, goat, sheep and camel, with Rajasthan breeds given priority
  • Feeding, housing and care of animals
  • Common diseases such as foot and mouth disease, anthrax and mastitis, and their prevention
  • Dairy farm management, milk composition and testing
  • Clean milk production and making curd, paneer and ghee
  • Cleaning and sterilising dairy equipment

Breed questions are the easiest marks here. Learn the home district and main use of each state breed, for example which ones are known for milk and which for draught.

Agriculture supervisor syllabus: a 12 week plan

Pooja passed class 12 with agriculture from a school in Sikar and has three months before the exam. She does one technical part each fortnight (agronomy, then horticulture, then animal husbandry), and keeps 45 minutes daily for Hindi grammar and Rajasthan GK. In the last four weeks she sits a full timed paper twice a week and marks every guess she got wrong, which teaches her when to leave a question blank.

  • Weeks 1 to 6: technical parts with crop and breed tables
  • Weeks 1 to 12 alongside: Hindi grammar rules and Rajasthan GK, little each day
  • Weeks 7 to 9: farm schemes, revision and part wise tests
  • Weeks 10 to 12: two complete mocks a week, scored with the penalty applied

For study material, the agriculture textbooks of the Rajasthan board for classes 11 and 12 cover most crop science and horticulture topics. Old question papers published by the board show how questions are framed.

Who can apply

Reports of the latest advertisement give these conditions:

  • Class 12 (senior secondary) with agriculture, or the older higher secondary with agriculture, or a BSc in Agriculture or Agri Horticulture
  • Age from 18 up to 40; reserved classes get the upper limit raised as the state allows
  • The ability to write Hindi in Devanagari script, plus a grounding in the customs and heritage of the state

Look up the age reckoning date in the current advertisement, along with any change to the qualification list. If you hold a BSc Agriculture, the IBPS AFO syllabus is a useful second target, and the Rajasthan VDO syllabus and Rajasthan Patwari syllabus share the state GK portion. More options sit in the state exams section.

Frequently asked questions

What does the agriculture supervisor question paper look like?

Reports of recent cycles describe 100 objective questions for 300 marks in 2 hours, so each question carries 3 marks. Confirm the pattern in the syllabus PDF released with your advertisement.

Can I apply with only class 12?

Yes, if your class 12 included agriculture as a subject. Science or arts students without agriculture are not eligible on the basis of class 12 alone, although a BSc Agriculture or Agri Horticulture degree also qualifies.

Which part of the paper carries the most marks?

Rajasthan GK, history and culture has the most questions (25), but the three technical parts together make up 60 of the 100 questions. A balanced plan treats agriculture as the core and GK as the tie breaker.

Is there an interview for agriculture supervisor?

Recent reports describe selection through the written test followed by document verification. Read the selection clause of your advertisement, since the board fixes the process for each recruitment.

Are Rajasthan specific crops and breeds asked?

Yes, and often. Expect questions on crops suited to the state's agro climatic zones, varieties recommended for Rajasthan and local livestock breeds, so study these with a state focus.

What happens to my score if I guess wrong?

You lose a third of an item's 3 marks, so one mark, for every incorrect response. Leaving a question you truly cannot judge is often wiser than a blind guess.
