The UPSSSC lower PCS syllabus, for the Combined Lower Subordinate Services (Graduate Level) Main Examination, comes down to a single 2-hour objective test worth 100 marks: Part 1 covers subject knowledge and general Hindi (65 marks), Part 2 computer and information technology (15) and Part 3 general information about Uttar Pradesh (20).
You do not reach this paper directly. The Commission first shortlists candidates on their normalised PET score, and only then calls them for the main exam. The new syllabus also drops the reasoning and elementary maths sections that aspirants were used to. Read on for the marks split, each part's topics, the changes and a sensible weekly plan.

How selection works for lower PCS
- UPSSSC PET: the common eligibility test for Group C posts. Your PET score card has to be from the cycle the advertisement names and still valid; a zero or negative score rules you out.
- Shortlisting: the Commission picks candidates in order of normalised PET score, roughly 15 per post in the latest round.
- Main exam: the 100-mark paper on this page. Final merit is drawn from it.
- Skill test for posts such as Clerk cum Typist, then document verification and medical check.
The posts include Assistant Treasury Accountant, Auditor, Executive Officer, Assistant Excise Officer, Market Supervisor and others across state departments. The UPSSSC PET syllabus page covers the first step in detail.
UP lower PCS exam pattern
| Part | Content | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part 1 | Subject knowledge: Indian history, the polity, geography, the economy, science and technology, environment and disasters, current events, data interpretation, general Hindi | 65 | 65 |
| Part 2 | Computer and information technology | 15 | 15 |
| Part 3 | General information about Uttar Pradesh | 20 | 20 |
| Total, 2 hours | 100 | 100 | |
A right answer adds 1 mark, while a wrong one subtracts 0.25. Two hours for 100 short questions leaves room to think, so the real test is precision.

What the lower PCS new syllabus changed
- Removed: general intelligence (reasoning) and elementary mathematics, which were part of the older lower subordinate paper.
- Added: data interpretation, as a small part of Part 1.
- Reshaped: general science is replaced by science and technology with a current, policy-based slant, and environment and disaster management are tested in their own right.
- Fixed blocks: computer knowledge (15) and UP GK (20) now have set weights.
Coming from the old paper? Shift the hours you spent on maths and reasoning towards science and technology, environment and UP GK.
Preparing for the upsssc lower pcs syllabus
Start with the blocks that are both large and stable: UP GK (20), general Hindi and computer (about 25 together). Then spread your time across the Part 1 general studies topics, keeping current events and science and technology for the last two months so they stay fresh.
For the general studies topics, NCERT textbooks of classes 6 to 12 give a dependable base. For Hindi, a standard grammar text with practice on official letters is enough.

Yes. Only candidates with a valid score in the PET named in the advertisement can apply, and shortlisting for the main exam is done on the normalised PET score.
Who can apply for UPSSSC lower PCS?
Graduates from a recognised university, aged 21 to 40 for most posts in the latest advertisement (18 for one transport post), with age relaxation for UP's SC, ST and OBC candidates (5, 5 and 3 years). Some posts add extra conditions, which the advertisement lists post by post.
