What earlier shift papers reveal
- Science leans on NCERT. Many questions are one line facts from class 9 and 10 books: units, laws, chemical formulae, parts of the human body, plant and animal classification. A handful of physics questions need a short calculation.
- Arithmetic rules the maths block. Percentages, ratios, interest sums, gain and loss, work, speed and mensuration turn up again and again, alongside some simplification and number system items.
- Reasoning rewards speed. Series, analogies, coding, directions, blood relations, syllogism and Venn diagrams appear repeatedly, and most items take under a minute.
- GA is the least predictable. Current affairs depend on the months before each shift, while static items cover history, geography, polity and sports.
Since science and maths together make up half the paper, old shift papers help most there, while GA practice should come from recent news.
How to practise in a 90 minute routine
- Start untimed: solve one full shift with no clock, to see which section slows you down.
- Section drills: over the next fortnight, take the 30 reasoning items of a shift in roughly 22 minutes and its 25 science items in roughly 15.
- Complete mocks: after that, attempt a whole shift in 90 minutes thrice a week, at the hour you expect your exam slot.
- Accuracy log: after each paper, note your attempts, correct answers and net score after the one third deduction.
- Repeat wrong items: seven days later, solve each missed question again with the answer hidden.
Sample questions in the Level 1 style
These items are written by our team to match the board's level; none is taken from an actual RRB paper.

- Maths: Ravi deposits 5,000 rupees at 8 percent simple interest. How much interest does he get in 3 years? Answer: 1,200 rupees.
- Reasoning: Find the next number: 3, 7, 15, 31, ? Answer: 63 (each term doubles and adds 1).

Hindi medium papers
Lots of aspirants schooled in Hindi want a Hindi copy of the rrb group d previous year question paper. Others ask for the railway group d previous year paper in Hindi medium. Content never changes between languages; boards translate one master paper. Practise in your exam language, since technical science words read differently in Hindi, for example प्रतिरोध for resistance and अपवर्तन for refraction. Learn both forms if you studied science in English medium.
Getting each rrb group d previous year question paper through official board links
After each Level 1 CBT, the boards open a link on every RRB website that shows the candidate's own question paper, the responses marked and the provisional answer key, usually for a short window with an objection facility. Save your copy while the link is live; it is the most reliable group d previous year paper you can get.
- Links to all boards are on indianrailways.gov.in.
- Only candidates who sat the CBT can log in, so ask seniors or classmates for their saved copies, checking them against the final key.
- Printed sets are useful for volume; cross check doubtful answers with NCERT books.
After practice, set your net scores against the board wise Level 1 cut off guide, confirm the rules on the Level 1 eligibility page and see sister posts on the RRB NTPC previous papers page.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I get the RRB group D previous year question paper officially?
For the rrb group d exam previous year question paper, each RRB website opens a link after the CBT where candidates can see their own question paper, responses and the answer key. The link closes after a short time, so save your copy.
Do old group D questions come again?
Identical questions are unusual. Even so, the same science facts, maths types and reasoning formats keep returning. Practising old papers builds that pattern sense.
How many past shift papers should I solve?
Around 25 to 30 full shifts, plus section drills, suits most aspirants. Review each one carefully rather than rushing to the next.
Does the Hindi version of a group D paper carry different questions?
It does not. One paper is translated into every listed language, so practise in whichever one you will select.
What net score should I aim for in mock papers?
Aim well above the last known cut off for your board and category, and keep improving accuracy so that the one third deduction does not eat into your marks.
