The ri amin syllabus in Odisha belongs to the combined recruitment test run by OSSSC, the state's subordinate staff board, where Revenue Inspector (RI), Assistant Revenue Inspector (ARI) and Amin posts are filled together: a 100 mark objective prelims on maths, general studies, English, Odia, reasoning and computers, a longer main written paper on the same subjects, and a qualifying test of basic computer skills. These are the field staff of the revenue department, so land, village and Odisha specific knowledge pays off throughout.
Because the subject split keeps getting retuned between advertisements, many aspirants are unsure what to study. Here you will see what has stayed fixed, what has moved, every subject's topic list and a plan shaped by where the marks lie.

Who RI, ARI and Amin are, and how they are chosen
An Amin measures land and helps prepare maps and records, an ARI assists with revenue collection and field enquiries, and an RI supervises a revenue circle. Because the work overlaps, OSSSC recruits all three through one combined advertisement that bundles other Group C jobs too, such as supervisors for child development projects and field surveyors for statistics.
Selection moves in this order:
- Preliminary written test, which shortlists candidates
- Main written exam, whose marks decide the merit list
- A hands on computer test, pass or fail
- Document verification
Coverage of the newest cycle describes prelims as a screening round only, with its score kept apart from final ranking. Confirm this in your advertisement, since some older schemes treated the stages differently.
RI amin syllabus for prelims, with the pattern
Prelims has held steady at 100 single mark items and a 90 minute clock. What moves is the split among subjects. Two versions have been reported:
| Subject | Latest reported | Earlier advertisement |
|---|---|---|
| Arithmetic and maths | 20 | 20 |
| English language | 20 | 20 |
| Reasoning | 10 | 20 |
| General studies | 20 | 20 |
| Odia language | 15 | 20 |
| Computer awareness | 15 | none |
| Total | 100 | 100 |
Wrong answers are penalised. Coverage of the newest advertisement mentions a 0.25 cut for each wrong response, whereas the older scheme was described with a cut of 0.33, so rely on whatever your advertisement prints.
The main written exam
Mains stretches to 180 single mark items, and reports put the sitting at three hours. In the earlier scheme its split was 40 questions each of mathematics, general studies, English and computer awareness, with 20 of Odia. The latest advertisement keeps the same family of subjects, but check the exact numbers it prints before you set your study hours.

Practical computer skill test
After the written stage comes a practical computer round, reported at 50 marks. Forty percent is the pass line, and the marks do not count towards rank. Expect to type and style a letter, fill a sheet with figures and simple formulas, and put together a few slides. A slow typist with no spreadsheet habit can fail here even after a strong mains, so get hands on practice at a keyboard rather than reading about it.
Eligibility for RI, ARI and Amin
| Post | Qualification | Age |
|---|---|---|
| RI | Bachelor's degree with knowledge of computer applications | 20 to 42 years |
| ARI | +2 (Higher Secondary) or an engineering diploma, with computer knowledge | 20 to 42 years |
| Amin | Reported as +2 or an engineering diploma from an SCTE and VT affiliated institution; reports differ, so read the post row | 20 to 42 years |
Women, along with SC, ST and SEBC candidates, may be up to 5 years older; those with disabilities, 10 years older. Odia proficiency at the level set in the advertisement is also needed. For the RI post on its own, see our OSSSC RI syllabus page.
Planning your preparation
Maths, general studies and English carry the largest share in both papers, so build your plan on them and treat Odia, reasoning and computers as steady daily add ons.
- First eight weeks: arithmetic chapters in the order of the list above, 30 questions a day; Odisha general studies from the state's school social science textbooks.
- Weeks nine to twelve: English grammar drills, Odia grammar and translation, and a daily reasoning set.
- After prelims: deepen computer awareness for the mains and start practical spreadsheet and document work for the skill test.
The wider scheme of the Commission's exams is on our OSSSC syllabus page, and graduates aiming at higher posts can compare the OSSC CGL syllabus. Other states have their own pages under our state exams hub page.
