The MP police cut off in the 2023 constable cycle was not a single published number for everyone: the board shortlisted candidates for the physical stage by category, in a ratio linked to the vacancies, and the final cut off depended on written plus physical marks. If you are looking for one figure that you need to beat, this page explains why that figure moves and what you can rely on instead.
We have kept to what official notices and reliable reports confirm. Where category wise marks could not be confirmed from an official MPESB release, we say so rather than print an estimate.

What the MP constable cut off really means
For MP Police constable recruitment, the cut off is the last score in your category that still makes the list for the next step. There are two such lines. The first is the written test line that decides who is called to the physical efficiency and measurement tests. The second is the final selection line, set after physical marks are added and vacancies are filled category by category.
Because the exam runs over many shifts, the board converts raw marks to normalised scores before ranking anyone. Your scorecard may therefore show a figure that is not a simple count of right answers out of 100.
MP police cut off in the 2023 cycle: what is confirmed
| Detail | What reports and notices show |
|---|---|
| Written exam start | 12 August 2023 |
| Result | Declared in March 2024 on the board's website |
| Posts | Over 7,000 constable posts |
| Who went to the physical stage | Candidates in each category up to seven times the vacancies, as per the official notice |
| Category wise cut off marks | Not confirmed from an official release; check your scorecard and the result notice |
Several websites list category wise figures for the 2023 cycle, but they disagree with each other and many are labelled as expected values. We have not reproduced them. Your own scorecard and the board's result notice are the reliable record.
The latest cycle in numbers
The later recruitment for 7,500 constable posts gives a clear sense of competition. Reports of the first phase result give these figures:
| Measure | Number |
|---|---|
| Applications | 9,78,059 |
| Appeared in the written test | 6,85,504 |
| Qualified for the second phase | 59,438 |
| Candidates per post at phase two | About 8 |
Put simply, fewer than one in eleven candidates who sat the paper reached the physical stage. That is the real bar: you need to finish inside the top slice of your category, not just pass.
Qualifying marks versus selection cut off
Many aspirants mix these up. A qualifying mark, if the notification sets one, is the minimum score below which you are out whatever your category. The selection cut off is much higher in practice, because it is set by competition. In the physical test, reports for the latest cycle mention a minimum share of the 100 physical marks needed to stay in the race, so confirm the exact rule printed for your own recruitment.
Anjali scored well in the CBT and assumed she was safe. Her normalised score cleared the OBC women's shortlist, but she lost ground in the 800 metre race. Because final merit adds physical marks, she missed selection by a few points. Her advice to juniors: start running the day you submit the form.
What moves the MP police cut off
- Vacancies: more posts in a category usually mean a lower line, since the shortlist ratio is tied to posts.
- Number of candidates: close to seven lakh sat the latest paper; a jump in applicants pushes the line up.
- Shift difficulty: normalisation evens this out, but an easier paper overall still raises scores across the board.
- Reservation: separate lines apply for each category and for horizontal groups such as women, ex servicemen and home guards where the notification provides.
- Post: general duty and radio constable lists are prepared separately.
How to check your cut off and marks officially
- Open the MPESB website and go to the results section for the constable recruitment test.
- Download the result notice. It explains the shortlisting rule and lists categories.
- Sign in using the application number and birth date you registered with to see your scorecard and normalised score.
- Compare your score with the last shortlisted score in your category if the board publishes it.
Cut off figures circulating on social media are often guesses. Treat only the board's own PDF and your scorecard as final.
Using past cut offs to plan
Since every part of the paper carries equal marks per question and there is no negative marking, the target is simply as many correct answers as possible. Work from the MP police syllabus, practise timing with the guidance on our MP police previous year paper page, and track your mock scores against the share of candidates who got through in recent cycles. Curious how a neighbouring state draws its lines? Uttar Pradesh does it differently, as the cut off for UP police constables shows.
Frequently asked questions
What closing mark did general category MP police candidates need?
We could not confirm official category wise marks for the 2023 cycle from an MPESB release. The board shortlisted candidates up to seven times the vacancies in each category. Check the result notice and your scorecard on the board's website.
Is the MP constable cut off based on raw marks?
No. With the CBT spread across dozens of sittings, MPESB ranks candidates on normalised scores. Your scorecard shows the normalised figure used for ranking.
Can my physical test marks change the final cut off?
Yes. Reports on recent cycles say the final list adds physical marks on top of the normalised CBT figure, so your running, jumping and throwing marks change your final position.
For MP police constable posts, where is the previous year cut off kept?
On the MPESB website, in the result notices for each recruitment. Older notices from the board's earlier name, the Professional Examination Board, may also be archived there.
Is the cut off different for women?
Horizontal reservation creates separate lists for groups such as women where the notification provides it, so the closing score can differ. Check the category tables in the result notice.
Will the next cut off be higher?
Nobody can know in advance. It depends on vacancies, applicants and paper difficulty. Aim for a mock score that leaves you a comfortable margin rather than a target number from a website.
