The MP ADPO syllabus, for the Assistant District Prosecution Officer post that MPPSC (Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission) recruits for, is two-thirds law and one-third general knowledge: a 3-hour objective test worth 450 marks across 150 questions, with 100 law questions and 50 on Madhya Pradesh, India and the world, followed by an interview.
With 3 marks riding on each item and 1 lost per slip, accuracy in the law section decides most ranks. Covered below: the exam layout, each act you need, the GK topics, eligibility and a plan suited to working lawyers. For the commission's other exams, see the MPPSC syllabus.

MP ADPO exam pattern
| Section | Area tested | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | GK covering MP, the country and world affairs | 50 | 150 |
| B | Law and legal awareness | 100 | 300 |
| Total, 3 hours | 150 | 450 | |
A correct answer gives 3 marks and an incorrect one takes away 1, while a skipped question scores nothing. Those who make it through the paper move on to an interview, reported to carry 50 marks, and the merit list adds the interview score to the written score. One report also says a minimum of 40% is needed in each part separately, so a weak GK score cannot be covered by strong law marks.
Law section: acts and topics
Part B is the heart of the MP ADPO syllabus. The three new criminal codes took over from the old penal, procedure and evidence statutes, and the syllabus now names them, though older case law on the same principles is still useful.
Core criminal law
- Nyaya Sanhita (BNS): when an act is excused, abetting and conspiring, then hurt, murder, theft, cheating, sexual offences and crimes against the nation
- Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS): arrest, bail, investigation, charge, trial procedure, appeals and the role of the public prosecutor
- Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA): relevancy, admissions and confessions, dying declaration, burden of proof, witnesses and electronic records
Constitution
- Fundamental rights, especially Articles 14, 20, 21 and 22
- Directive principles, the judiciary and the powers of the state
Special and local laws
- Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act
- Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act
- Prevention of Corruption Act
- The atrocities law protecting Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes
- Motor Vehicles Act and Arms Act
- Madhya Pradesh state acts relevant to prosecution, which several reports describe as a heavily tested area
General knowledge part
The 50 GK questions carry 150 marks, as much as half the law section, which is why GK deserves steady weekly hours from the start.
- Madhya Pradesh: history and dynasties, freedom struggle in the state, rivers, forests, minerals, tribes, art, festivals, tourism, the state economy and government schemes
- India: the past, the land and its resources, the Constitution, economic basics and everyday science, at the depth expected of any graduate
- World: international organisations, important events and current affairs
Anyone who has studied for the state civil services already knows much of this; its general studies paper covers the same MP ground, and the MPPSC previous papers are good practice for the state questions.

A study plan for practising lawyers
Most aspirants are young advocates with court work in the morning. A 14-week plan that respects that:
- Weeks 1 to 5: the three new criminal codes. Read the bare acts section by section, noting where the numbering changed from the old law, because questions often test the new section numbers.
- Weeks 6 and 7: Constitution, with leading cases on Articles 20 to 22.
- Weeks 8 to 10: special acts. Make a one-page sheet per act listing punishments, presumptions and time limits.
- Weeks 11 and 12: MP and general GK, one hour daily.
- Weeks 13 and 14: full 150-question tests. With a 1-mark penalty, mark a response only after you have eliminated two choices with confidence.
Prosecution officer exams of other states share much of this law base; set this page beside the Bihar APO syllabus or the version Rajasthan uses, on our Rajasthan APO syllabus page.

Is IPC still in the MP ADPO syllabus?
No. MPPSC now names the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, the successors of the old Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code and Evidence Act. Old case law on the same principles still helps, but learn the new section numbers.

Who conducts the MP ADPO exam?
MPPSC, the state's public service commission, which publishes the advertisement, syllabus and admit cards on its official website.
