Class 11th Syllabus JKBOSE: Units, Marks and Pass Rules

School boardsBoard examNCERT based scienceUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The class 11th syllabus JKBOSE sets for higher secondary part one pairs General English, which every student must take, with the electives of your stream; every subject totals 100 marks and joins a written paper with a practical, project or internal assessment share. Unlike many boards, the Jammu and Kashmir board conducts the class 11 annual exam itself, so this syllabus decides a board result, not just a school test.

Science subjects follow the NCERT class 11 books closely, which helps if you are also eyeing NEET or JEE. Here you get the subject scheme, chapter lists for the four core science papers, an outline for commerce and arts, the pass rules, and a timetable suited to your zone.

How higher secondary part one is organised

English is common to all streams. The rest of your timetable comes from the electives your school offers in your stream: science (physics and chemistry, with biology, mathematics or both), commerce (accountancy, business studies, economics and allied papers) or arts and humanities (history, political science, geography, economics, languages and more). The board's approved list is long and also includes papers such as computer science, environmental science, psychology, sociology, home science subjects and several languages.

The academic calendar differs across the union territory. Schools of the Kashmir division and the winter zone of Jammu hold the annual exam in October and November, while the Jammu summer zone sits it in February and March.

How marks divide in the class 11th syllabus JKBOSE uses

Marks out of 100 in key higher secondary part one papers
PaperWrittenLab work, project or school assessment
English (compulsory)8020 internal
Physics7030 (20 external practical, 10 internal)
Chemistry7030 (20 external practical, 10 internal)
Biology7030 (20 external practical, 10 internal)
Business Studies8020 project
Economics8020 project
History8020 project
Mathematics, accountancy, languages and other electives each have their own split, and the board has revised some of them over the years. Read the subject's marks distribution in the latest syllabus file on jkbose.nic.in before you plan internal work.

Physics and chemistry units

Physics

  • Physical world, units and measurement
  • Kinematics: motion in a straight line and in a plane, vectors, projectiles
  • Laws of motion, friction and circular motion
  • Work, energy and power, collisions
  • Rotational motion of rigid bodies and the centre of mass
  • Gravitation, satellites and escape speed
  • Properties of bulk matter: elasticity, fluids, viscosity, surface tension, heat transfer
  • Thermodynamics, then gas behaviour through kinetic theory
  • Simple harmonic motion, then sound and string waves

Chemistry

  • Mole concept, stoichiometry and basic laws of chemical combination
  • Atomic structure, orbitals and quantum numbers
  • Periodic classification and trends
  • Bonding: ionic, covalent, VSEPR and hybridisation
  • Energy changes and thermodynamics in chemistry
  • Equilibrium, both chemical and ionic
  • Redox reactions
  • Organic chemistry basics: naming, isomerism, reaction types and purification
  • Hydrocarbons, from alkanes and alkenes to alkynes and benzene

Organic chemistry basics and hydrocarbons together carry a big slice of the chemistry theory paper, and they are the foundation for the whole organic section of class 12.

Mathematics and biology units

Mathematics

  • Foundations: sets, relations, functions and trigonometric functions
  • Algebra, covering complex numbers with quadratic equations, linear inequalities, counting with permutations and combinations, the binomial expansion, and arithmetic and geometric sequences
  • Coordinate geometry: the straight line, then conic sections, plus a first look at 3D coordinates
  • Calculus: limits, then derivatives from first principles
  • Data and chance: dispersion measures, then probability

Biology

  • The living world, classification systems, and the plant and animal kingdoms
  • Anatomy and morphology of flowering plants, and animal tissues
  • Cells as the unit of life, biomolecules, mitosis and meiosis
  • How plants work: photosynthesis, respiration in plants and plant growth
  • How the human body works: breathing, circulation, excretion, movement, nervous and hormonal control

These lists follow the NCERT class 11 books that the board's science courses are built on. If a unit appears in an older guide but not in your school's latest syllabus copy, follow the latest copy.

Commerce and arts outline

  • Accountancy: the accounting process from vouchers and journal to ledger, trial balance and bank reconciliation, depreciation and provisions, then financial statements of sole traders
  • Business Studies: nature and forms of business, business services, emerging modes such as e business, social responsibility, and small business, internal and international trade
  • Economics: statistics for economics (gathering and presenting data, averages, spread and correlation) and Indian economic development, including the reforms since 1991
  • History: themes in world history, from early societies and empires to changing traditions and paths to modernisation
  • Geography: fundamentals of physical geography, India's physical environment, and practical work on maps

The economics project and the history project each carry 20 marks, so start them in the first term rather than the last month.

Pass rules and recent changes

The line is 33 percent for English and 36 percent for every elective. Subjects with a lab or school assessed share also carry their own minimums, one for the written paper and one for the lab or internal marks. Board rules allow a small relief for candidates who fall short in theory by a few marks, but that relief does not cover practical or internal assessment.

In its most recent notice, the board revised the class 11 syllabi for Punjabi and Physical Education, and said other subjects continue on the existing pattern. Question papers for regular and fresh private candidates follow the revised syllabi.

Pass percentages, sub minimums, relief rules and revised subjects come from JKBOSE notices. Check the latest circulars on the board website each session.

A study plan for the class 11 year

  1. First term: settle into the heavier class 11 chapters early, such as kinematics and laws of motion, the mole concept, trigonometric functions, or journal and ledger work in accountancy.
  2. Middle of the year: finish the remaining units, and complete practical records and project files as you go.
  3. Final eight weeks: sit the model papers JKBOSE releases, timed at three hours, revise formula sheets and redo every wrong question.
Faizan, a medical stream student in Baramulla, knew his annual exam would come in November, months earlier than his cousin's in Kathua. He moved his revision forward to September, had the biology diagrams and the physics lab record done before September began, and kept October only for timed papers.

Textbooks, and why class 11 matters for class 12

Use the textbooks prescribed by the board for your subject; in physics, chemistry, biology and maths these are the NCERT class 11 books, with the NCERT laboratory manuals for practicals. Mechanics, bonding and early calculus return in class 12 and in entrance tests, which means gaps left now tend to resurface.

Look ahead at the JKBOSE class 12 syllabus to see where each unit leads, go back to the JKBOSE class 10 syllabus when a basic idea feels shaky, and set your maths units beside the CBSE class 11 maths syllabus. Other state and national boards are gathered on our school boards page.

Does JKBOSE follow NCERT for class 11 science?

For physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics the board follows the NCERT class 11 content, with small differences in how units are grouped. Use the board's own subject syllabus to check which units are included.

What marks clear JKBOSE class 11?

English requires 33% and electives require 36%. If a subject has a lab or internal component, each part has its own minimum as well.

Which class 11 subjects were revised recently?

The board's latest notice revised the class 11 syllabi for Punjabi and Physical Education, while other subjects continue as before. Download the revised syllabus from the board website if you take either subject.
