Kerala PSC Last Grade Servants: one 100 mark OMR test, GK heavy

Company Board LGS Syllabus and Exam Pattern for Kerala PSC

State exams7th pass levelKerala PSCUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The company board LGS syllabus is the topic list Kerala PSC sets for Last Grade Servants recruited to public sector companies, corporations and boards in Kerala, and it is tested through one objective OMR exam of 100 marks. General knowledge and Kerala related questions make up the biggest share, followed by current affairs, simple arithmetic with mental ability, and basic science and public health.

The minimum qualification is a pass in standard VII, so the questions stay at a basic level, but applications run very high and rank list positions often turn on fractions of a mark. What follows is the pattern, each section's topics and a ten week route through them.

How Kerala PSC fills these posts

LGS posts in companies, boards and corporations are notified together under one category number, and a single rank list is prepared from it. In the latest notification the selection was through one written OMR test, followed by verification of certificates for those in the rank list. Reports on that round say there was no separate main exam.

Applicants must also meet the conditions in the notification, which in the latest round meant being between 18 and 36 years old, with the usual relaxation for OBC, SC and ST candidates, and knowledge of cycling, from which women and differently abled candidates were exempt.

Whether an interview or any extra test applies, and any upper limit on qualification, is stated in the notification for each round. Read the full notice and the general conditions on the Kerala PSC website before applying.

Is there a company board LGS prelims syllabus?

Many candidates search for a separate company board LGS prelims syllabus, because Kerala PSC has run common preliminary tests for groups of posts in some past years, followed by a main exam for each post. Whether a preliminary stage is used is the Commission's decision for each round and often depends on how many people apply.

For the latest company board LGS round, the reports we checked describe a single OMR test with the syllabus below, rather than a prelims and mains. If the Commission announces a preliminary test in a future round, it will publish a separate syllabus for it on its website, and that document will override anything here.

Exam pattern and mark split

Mark distribution reported for the latest company board LGS test
SectionMarks
General knowledge (India, Kerala, Constitution, renaissance)40
Current affairs20
Simple arithmetic, mental ability and observation tests20
Science10
Public health10
Total100

With 100 single mark questions and 75 minutes on the clock, you get 45 seconds per question. A mistaken bubble takes away 0.33 of a mark, meaning three errors cancel a correct response.

Most summaries give the split above, but at least one report lists 10 marks of English and 10 of regional language in place of science and public health. Download the detailed syllabus from the Kerala PSC website for your category number and follow that.

Topics in the company board LGS syllabus

General knowledge (40 marks)

  • Indian geography: physical features, borders, rivers, energy, transport and major industries
  • The freedom struggle and India after independence, national institutions
  • The Constitution: fundamental rights and duties, national symbols, human rights and information commissions
  • Kerala basics: districts, rivers and lakes, hydroelectric projects, wildlife sanctuaries and national parks, local bodies
  • Kerala renaissance and social reformers such as Sree Narayana Guru, Ayyankali, Chattampi Swamikal and Mannathu Padmanabhan, and Kerala's part in the national movement
  • Culture, literature, sports and economy, with Kerala examples

Current affairs (20 marks)

Recent national, international and Kerala events: government schemes, appointments, awards, sports results, and news from science, the arts and literature.

Simple arithmetic and mental ability (20 marks)

  • Numbers and basic operations, LCM and HCF, fractions and decimals
  • Squares and square roots, averages, profit and loss, time and distance
  • Questions on symbols and signs, number and letter series, analogies, grouping, the misfit in a set
  • Meaningful arrangement of words, problems on ages, finding positions

Science (10 marks)

The human body, vitamins and deficiency diseases, Kerala's food and cash crops, forests and forest produce, environment, atoms and elements, ores and minerals, matter and energy, heat, motion, sound, light and the solar system.

Public health (10 marks)

Communicable diseases and their pathogens, lifestyle diseases, basic health awareness, vaccination and health programmes run in Kerala.

Where the rank is really decided

Because almost everyone prepares general knowledge, the gap between candidates usually opens up in Kerala specific questions and in the 20 arithmetic and mental ability marks. Simple arithmetic at this level can be answered almost fully with practice, and mental ability questions follow a few fixed types, so these 20 marks are the most reliable gain for most aspirants.

Current affairs is a moving target. Focus on Kerala news, central and state schemes, and awards and sports events of roughly the last half year. Science and public health questions are often direct facts from class 7 to 10 textbooks and health awareness campaigns.

Suresh works as a daily wage driver in Thrissur and can study only after 8 pm. He gives Monday to Thursday to general knowledge from his own notes on Kerala and the renaissance, Friday to arithmetic practice, and Saturday to one 100 question mock in 75 minutes. Every morning he spends ten minutes on a Malayalam newspaper's state page for current affairs.

Ten weeks to cover the LGS topics

  1. Weeks 1 to 3: Indian and Kerala geography, the Constitution and national symbols. Keep notes short, about a page for every topic.
  2. Weeks 4 to 5: the freedom struggle, Kerala renaissance and social reformers, their organisations and years of key events.
  3. Weeks 6 to 7: science and public health from school textbooks, plus 20 arithmetic and reasoning questions every day.
  4. Weeks 8 to 10: monthly current affairs revision and a full timed mock every second day, marked with the one third penalty.

School textbooks in social science and basic science from the Kerala state syllabus are the most useful books, along with Kerala PSC's own earlier question papers for LGS and similar posts. You can find them on the Commission's site, and they reveal the real style and level.
