Delhi Police HC AWO/TPO: 100 mark CBT with science and maths, then qualifying tests

AWO TPO syllabus and exam pattern for Delhi Police Head Constable

State exams12th scienceDelhi PoliceUpdated 26 Oct 2026

The AWO TPO syllabus is a 100 question, 100 mark computer based test of 90 minutes made of general awareness (20), general science (25), mathematics (25), reasoning (20) and computer fundamentals (10). These are the Head Constable posts of Assistant Wireless Operator and Tele-Printer Operator in Delhi Police, and SSC handles the recruitment on behalf of the force.

Unlike most police papers, half the marks here come from class 11 and 12 level science and maths, because the job involves handling communication equipment. Read on for each subject's topics, the qualifying rounds that follow and a plan that respects that science tilt.

Stages of the Delhi Police HC AWO/TPO recruitment

  1. Computer based examination: the only stage that carries marks for merit.
  2. PE&MT (endurance and measurement): running, jumps and body measurements, qualifying only.
  3. Trade test: reading and dictation work linked to wireless and teleprinter duties, qualifying.
  4. Computer proficiency test: typing and basic computer handling, qualifying.
  5. Documents and medical check before appointment.

Ranking rests on CBT marks, with bonus marks for holders of certain NCC certificates as the notice specifies. Physical standards and race timings differ for men and women and by age group, so take them from the notice itself.

General science: physics and chemistry topics

Physics carries most of the weight here because of the communication work involved.

  • Mechanics: motion, Newton's laws, work, energy, power, gravitation
  • Heat and sound: temperature, transfer of heat, waves, echo, frequency
  • Electricity and magnetism: current, Ohm's law, resistance in series and parallel, magnetic effect of current, induction
  • Electronics and communication: semiconductors, diodes, transistors, number systems used in digital circuits, optical fibres, modes of communication and wave propagation
  • Chemistry: acids, bases and salts, chemical reactions and catalysts, common chemicals in daily life, electrochemistry, physical and chemical change

Mathematics topics

  • Numbers, factors, multiples and simplification
  • Algebra and sequences, including arithmetic and geometric progressions
  • Ratio, percentage, average, discount and profit
  • Simple interest and compounding
  • Pipes, work rates, trains, boats and speed
  • Geometry, mensuration and trigonometry
  • Permutation and combination
  • Reading values off charts and tables

The level goes beyond the usual constable paper. Expect trigonometric identities and progressions alongside arithmetic.

Reasoning, general awareness and computer fundamentals

Reasoning: analogy, number and letter series, coding, blood relations, direction and ranking, syllogism, Venn diagrams, seating arrangement, inequalities, input and output, data sufficiency and non-verbal figures.

General awareness: recent happenings at home and abroad, India's past from ancient times to independence, maps and physical geography, the Constitution, the economy, sporting events, honours and authors, plus a few items on Delhi itself.

Computer fundamentals: word processing, spreadsheet basics such as cells, formulas and functions, email, internet terms like URL, HTTP and FTP, browsers, search tools and e-banking.

Trade test and computer proficiency test

Neither adds marks; you simply clear them or drop out. The trade test checks how you read out and take down messages, the way an operator would on a wireless set. The computer test checks typing and handling of files and office software; reports on the latest notice mention a speed of 1000 key depressions in 15 minutes in English.

Sahil, a class 12 science student from Rohtak, scored well in physics mocks but had never typed on a keyboard. He kept 20 minutes every evening for typing from the day he applied, so by the time the CBT result came out he was already clearing the speed with time to spare.

How to prepare in ten weeks

  1. Weeks 1 to 3: class 11 and 12 physics chapters on current electricity, semiconductors and communication systems, along with arithmetic basics.
  2. Weeks 4 to 6: trigonometry, progressions and permutations, plus chemistry of daily life. Daily 20 reasoning questions.
  3. Weeks 7 and 8: general awareness revision and computer terms. Begin sectional tests.
  4. Weeks 9 and 10: full 90 minute mocks every second day, noting how many marks your errors gave away each time.

Senior secondary NCERT texts in physics and maths give the firmest base for parts B and C. Compare this page with our Delhi Police AWO TPO syllabus guide, the ministerial and other head constable papers and the constable syllabus if you plan to apply for more than one post.
